  • Irish Thoroughbred

    Irish Thoroughbred by Nora Roberts

Irish Thoroughbred by Nora Roberts is $1.99! This is the first book ever published by Roberts and is finally available digitally. Yay! For many people, this was the book that started their love of Nora Roberts, though be forewarned it was originally published in the 80s, so some things may seem dated.

“COME TO AMERICA. YOUR HOME IS WITH ME NOW.”

Adelia Cunnane’s uncle had written her. So Adelia had left Ireland to join him on what he had described as the finest horse farm in Maryland.

Adelia agreed with her uncle about the farm. But what should she think about its owner, Travis Grant?

She knew that he could master his strongest horse. She had seen his eyes soften at the birth of a foal. Yet his lips on hers demanded a submission that she was not yet ready to give — at least not until he had spoken the words she had to hear.

  • Unbreakable

    Unbreakable by Emma Scott

Unbreakable by Emma Scott is $2.99! This is a contemporary romance that Carrie reviewed last year. She gave it a C+ and it features some things that may put other readers off, but a few of the comments mentioned being interested. Carrie said:

Whether I was annoyed by the book or delighted by the book, I wanted to know what happened next – which is a powerful thing. This is definitely a book which will annoy some people and enchant others, and it annoyed me and enchanted me pretty much equally.

Alex Gardener has her life planned out, down to the smallest detail. She has a skyrocketing career as a litigation attorney, a close group of socialite friends, and is engaged to one of the most successful businessmen in Beverly Hills. Everything is just as she wants it: comfortable, predictable, secure…if lacking passion. Fire.

Cory Bishop is a struggling working man, trying to make ends meet while fighting to keep custody his young daughter. He knows that working hard is the only way to achieve his goals, but lately it seems everything he wants hangs just out of reach.

    The bank robbery changes everything.

Alex and Cory spend three harrowing days as hostages locked in a bank with fifty frightened people and six criminals who grow more desperate–and dangerous–by the hour. Alex and Cory find comfort and safety with each other and reveal their deepest hopes and fears and secrets, unknowingly building a bond forged out of desperation and fear, one that they can’t break, even once outside the bank’s walls.

Their lives are turned upside down, irrevocably altered, and they seek to move on and put the robbery–and each other–behind them.

But some bonds, once forged, cannot be broken.

  • Adapted for Film

Adapted for Film by Stacey Rourke

Adapted for Film by Stacey Rourke is 99c at Amazon! It also seems that the book is only available from this vendor for now. This is a contemporary romance with an actor hero, a fake relationship, and an opposites attract pairing. I’m very interested in this one admittedly. Some readers felt the characterization was a little station, while others thought this book had a great blend of humor and romance. It has a 3.8-star rating on Goodreads.

Aubrey Evans is living every author’s dream; her sizzling romance novel is being turned into a blockbuster film. She would be celebrating this momentous event, if she wasn’t busy fighting over every tiny production detail with the maddeningly cavalier director, Kole Camden.

When news of their heated rivalry hits the gossip columns, drastic measures must be taken to save their sinking project. In an elaborate PR hoax, she is publicly linked to Greyson Meyers, the swoon-worthy star of her movie. A whirl-wind love affair is staged for the couple to mirror the steamy chapters of her own books.

Can the introverted author resist the charms of Hollywood’s sexiest leading man? Or will love find her in the City of Angels?

  • The New Indian Slow Cooker

The New Indian Slow Cooker by Neela Paniz

The New Indian Slow Cooker by Neela Paniz is $1.99! I love my slow cooker and I’m always looking for new ways to utilize it. This cookbook features more than 60 recipes. However, many readers mentioned that there’s a bit more prep work than what they’re used to with other slow cooker recipes.

The newest book in Ten Speed’s best-selling slow cooker series, featuring more than 60 fix-it-and-forget-it recipes for Indian favorites.

The rich and complex flavors of classic Indian dishes like Lamb Biryani, Palak Paneer, and chicken in a creamy tomato-butter sauce can take hours to develop through such techniques as extended braising and low simmering. In The New Indian Slow Cooker, veteran cooking teacher and chef Neela Paniz revolutionizes the long, slow approach to making Indian cuisine by rethinking its traditional recipes for the slow cooker.

She showcases the best regional curries, dals made with lentils and beans, vegetable and rice sides, as well as key accompaniments like chutneys, flatbreads, raita, and fresh Indian cheese. Using this fix-it-and-forget-it approach, you can produce complete and authentic Indian meals that taste like they came from Mumbai, New Delhi, and Bangalore, or your favorite Indian restaurant.

Featuring both classic and innovative recipes such as Pork Vindaloo, Kashmiri Potato Curry, Date and Tamarind Chutney, and Curried Chickpeas, these full-flavor, no-fuss dishes are perfect for busy cooks any day of the week.

    http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/secrets-of-a-summer-night-lisa-kleypas/1101957376?ean=9780061793080

Do we have to get them from different stores??

  2. MissyLaLa says:

I still haven’t taken the Nora Roberts plunge. I don’t know why. Kinsale, Kleypas, Bourne, Chase, and Milan are my go-to authors. Lately when I’ve tried a new one, I haven’t been happy, so I’m a little gun-shy. Of course it’s not much $$$. The bigger issue is my already-existing TBR pile (it’s big).

  3. Drew says:

GUYS!!!! Moon Called is only $1.99 right now on Amazon. If you haven’t started reading the Mercy Thompson series you really really should! (although trigger warning for book 3).

  4. Kris Bock says:

An author who has any say in the movie adaptation of her book? Must be a fantasy!

  5. Tam says:

It was #3 of the Mercy Thompson series which actually gripped me and had me hooked. Usually I violently dislike the ‘ass-kicking heroine has dark past of assault’ storyline, but I felt that Briggs handled both this unusually well (think Jessica Jones).

  6. Chris Z says:

Hmm. I thought the elusive Promise Me Tomorrow was NR’s first mainstream published book.

  7. Drew says:

@Tam – I totally agree – I think that Briggs did an amazing job with the situation and the aftermath in the following books… Still, for people who don’t want that in their escapist lit I like to give ’em a heads-up 🙂

  8. LauraL says:

My horsey friends and I read the hell out of Irish Thoroughbred back in the day. Tempted to see how the story holds up over time.

Virginia Kantra’s Carolina Girl is on sale for $1.99. She has a new one coming out on February 2 – Carolina Dreaming.

  9. Michelle says:

Secrets of a summer night is $3.99 at Amazon too

  10. Jill-Marie says:

@LauraL, same with me and my horsey friends. :-)This one does feel a bit dated, but the other ones in the Irish horse trilogy hold up better. The one thing I will give La Nora absolute props for is getting **most** of the horse stuff pretty close to right. The same cannot be said about many, many, MANY others who try to write about horses.

  11. LauraL says:

@Jill-Marie – I know! I get antsy when an author doesn’t get the horse details right and may have commented a few times here and there.

Some contemporary authors who do know horses are Jesse Hayworth, Laura Moore, and Nancy Herkness. You’re welcome. 😉

  12. Carolyn says:

@LauraL: Have you ever read Bev Pettersen? Her stories are set in the racing world and I’m hooked on her. I have no idea how correct or in depth her horse facts are, but she’s a good writer. 🙂
