  • Irresistibly Yours

    Irresistibly Yours by Lauren Layne

Irresistibly Yours by Lauren Layne is 99c at Amazon and Kobo! Elsewhere, I believe it’s $2.99, which even though it’s the full price, that’s still not too bad. Thanks to Reader Kelsey C. for the heads up! If you like great dialogue, I always recommend Layne and this was one of my book picks for October’s Hide Your Wallet. However, a few readers found the setting a bit unrealistic. It has a 4-star rating on Goodreads.

Meet the men of Oxford magazine! In the first captivating spin-off of Lauren Layne’s Sex, Love & Stiletto series, a not-so-friendly battle of the sexes turns into a scorching office romance.

Hotshot sports editor Cole Sharpe has been freelancing for Oxford for years, so when he hears about a staff position opening up, he figures he’s got the inside track. Then his boss drops a bombshell: Cole has competition. Female competition, in the form of a fresh-faced tomboy who can hang with the dudes—and write circles around them, too. Cole usually likes his women flirty and curvy, but he takes a special interest in his skinny, sassy rival, if only to keep an eye on her. And soon, he can’t take his eyes off her.

Penelope Pope knows all too well that she comes off as just one of the guys. Since she’s learned that wanting more usually leads to disappointment, Penelope’s resigned to sitting on the sidelines when it comes to love. So why does Cole make her want to get back in the game? The man is as arrogant as he is handsome. He probably sees her as nothing more than a barrier to his dream job. But when an unexpected kiss turns into a night of irresistible passion, Penelope has to figure out whether they’re just fooling around—or starting something real.

  • Big Rock

    Big Rock by Lauren Blakely

Big Rock by Lauren Blakely is $3.99! This came out last week and made quite an impression in this month’s Hide Your Wallet. This romance is told from the hero’s point of view, which is something readers either love or hate. It also has a fake relationship plot, which I know it catnip for some readers. Any takers?

It’s not just the motion of the ocean, ladies. It’s definitely the SIZE of the boat too.

And I’ve got both firing on all cylinders. In fact, I have ALL the right assets. Looks, brains, my own money, and a big cock.

You might think I’m an asshole. I sound like one, don’t I? I’m hot as sin, rich as heaven, smart as hell and hung like a horse.

Guess what? You haven’t heard my story before. Sure, I might be a playboy, like the NY gossip rags call me. But I’m the playboy who’s actually a great guy. Which makes me one of a kind.

The only trouble is, my dad needs me to cool it for a bit. With conservative investors in town wanting to buy his flagship Fifth Avenue jewelry store, he needs me not only to zip it up, but to look the part of the committed guy. Fine. I can do this for Dad. After all, I’ve got him to thank for the family jewels. So I ask my best friend and business partner to be my fiancée for the next week. Charlotte’s up for it. She has her own reasons for saying yes to wearing this big rock.

And pretty soon all this playing pretend in public leads to no pretending whatsoever in the bedroom, because she just can’t fake the kind of toe-curling, window-shattering orgasmic cries she makes as I take her to new heights between the sheets.

But I can’t seem to fake that I might be feeling something real for her.

What the fuck have I gotten myself into with this…big rock?

BIG ROCK is a standalone, dirty romance novel written from the guy’s POV by NYT Bestselling author Lauren Blakely…

  • Below the Belt

Below the Belt by Jeanette Murray

Below the Belt by Jeanette Murray is $2.99 at select vendors! This is the first in a series and features a military hero trying to train for a boxing match. However, he’s not as young as he used to be and is trying to hide the injury from his trainer, the heroine. I am very interested in the heroine being the hero’s trainer, but some readers found the romance to be rather slow. Have you read it?

There’s more than one way to win in the debut of the First to Fight series…

Athletic trainer Marianne Cook is ready to do whatever it takes to turn the men of the Marine Corps boxing team into fighting machines. After all, her ultimate goal is to land a job training professional athletes. But when she notices a certain hard-bodied marine trying to hide an injury, Marianne realizes that she’ll have to use covert tactics to get him talking.

First Lieutenant Brad Costa has waited years for the chance to fight for a spot on the Marine Corps boxing team, knowing he has to push twice as hard to get half as far as his younger counterparts. Brad tries to downplay his injuries to the attractive trainer who has his dreams in her hands, but Marianne isn’t buying it. Maybe it’s time to deploy some targeted flattery.

As Brad and Marianne’s attraction turns red-hot, there’s more than one person having a hard time keeping their eyes on the prize…

  • Game for Romance Boxed Set

Game for Romance Boxed Set by Pamela Aares

Game for Romance Boxed Set by Pamela Aares is 99c! This set features four contemporary romance with a mixture of heroes and heroines: baseball players, single dad, veterinarians, Parisian socialites, and more. There’s also a whale rescue, which is something I felt like I just needed to mention.

From USA Today Bestselling author Pamela Aares, the first FOUR full length captivating romances in the Tavonesi Series. An heiress in hiding, a Parisian socialite, a smart team owner and a daring veterinarian–will these spirited heroines discover that All-Star, rock-hard bodies hide big hearts and the promise of true love?

    BOOK 1: LOVE BATS LAST
In LOVE BATS LAST, All-Star first baseman Alex Tavonesi has his hands full: he inherits the family vineyard and
is fighting to win one of baseball’s most coveted honors, the Triple Crown. But when he meets veterinarian Jackie Brandon by chance in a midnight storm and helps her rescue a stranded whale, the love she ignites derails all his careful practices and plans.

    BOOK 2: THROWN BY LOVE
In THROWN BY LOVE, ace pitcher Scotty Donovan has been traded from his longtime team—and hates it. But to his surprise, he now finds himself in the sweetest game of his life: winning the heart of smart, sexy physics professor Chloe McNalley. But when she inherits the team he plays for, following his heart could ruin his career.

    BOOK 3: FIELDER’S CHOICE
In FIELDER’S CHOICE, All-Star shortstop Matt Darrington has more than a problem. His wife died, and now he’s juggling a too-smart-for-her-britches six-year-old and the grueling pace of professional baseball. Worse, his daughter is mom shopping. When they explore a local ranch, she decides the beautiful, free-spirited tour guide is premium mom material. Matt thinks the sexy guide looks like Grade-A trouble. When love’s in the game you can’t play it safe…

BOOK 4: LOVE ON THE LINE
In LOVE ON THE LINE, heiress Cara Barrington fled the opulent world of her rich and famous family to carve out an idyllic existence on the California Coast. In the sleepy town of Albion Bay, she’s embraced the simple way of living she’s always craved. No one knows her identity, and she’s free from the pressures of wealth . . . until her sexy new neighbor threatens the unpretentious world she’s worked so hard to build.

  1. Leah says:

I could not be turned off more by the swaggering, smug, “Nice Guy” tone of the blurb for Big Rock. Holy cow. I know some people like that sort of hero, but definitely not for me.

I read a romance recently written from the male POV, and the problem I had with it was the author still focused solely on the heroine. She was so beautiful, so perfect, so witty and cute and etc that e-v-e-r-ything the hero did, said, and thought came down to her, so I didn’t actually feel like I got to know him despite being in his head for the narrative. I’m not against reading from the dude’s POV at all, I just genuinely want to get to know him as a character instead of being fixated solely on how amazing the heroine is and how lucky he is to have her and so forth.

  2. @Amanda says:

@Leah: I’m a ride or die dual POV reader. I just like knowing everything that’s going on in the head of both characters because I’m nosy like that.

  3. Leah says:

@Amanda: Yeah, me too, though it does make communication conflicts all the more frustrating when they use that as a device. When you KNOW the problem doesn’t really exist because you’re in both their heads and it’s a misunderstanding, it’s even worse!

  4. CelineB says:

I just noticed this Appetite for Love: 7 Romances for Foodies at Amazon for 71 cents. It has Acute Reactions by Ruby Lang in it which I enjoyed. Here’s the link:

  5. Elaine says:

I’m reading “Big Rock” right now and I understand Leah’s concerns about the hero being perfect AND being focused on how wonderful the heroine is. If everyone’s perfect, it’s really not that interesting. I’m not too far along, so the jury’s still out on whether or not the story will be good, but at the moment it’s a little too “everyone’s wonderful” for me. Plus the hero and heroine have been BFFs forever, but the second the fake relationship is mentioned (like, immediately), their feelings change. I’m all for the fake relationship trope, but I like to see the “hang on, maybe this isn’t so fake” realization sneak up a little more gradually. Anyway, the verdict’s not in yet. It’s made me laugh a few times.

  6. Katie Lynn says:

I need someone to take away my one-click privileges until the end of this week. I’m buying books left and right.

  7. jw says:

I’m with Leah. I like how the title and the cover design are both playful, but the guy’s POV sounds extremely horrible. I mean, who knows, maybe he gets all his rich boy privilege thrown back in his face a la Blake Reynolds in Milan’s Trade Me, but it reeeaaallly does not seem like it.

  8. Liz says:

I have to admit that I completely binge read the Tavonesi series about a month ago … separately. Obviously I liked the series enough to invest in it and I’ll already let some friends know about the sale. While I preferred the early books, they were entertaining although slightly unrealistic. For me, it wasn’t a problem (the books were like potato chips with the difference that instead of hurting my waistline, they put a dent in my book budget). And yes, the whale rescue …

  9. Stacy Hoff says:

I love office romances. (Yes, this is my catnip trope). I’m putting Irresistibly Yours on my TBR list. Thanks for mentioning it.

  10. Konst. says:

I enjoyed the first book in the Tavonesi series, so I bought the box-set and immediately jumped on the book two. The blurb looked encouraging – a brainy heroine again! and a fellow cosmologist! – but I got totally pissed-off after just a few pages. The whole scientific background descriptions are just so full of stereotypes that I couldn’t digest it… I guess this is because I am an astrophysicist and:

    1. I know that getting a full proffesor at Stanford at the age of 23 is simply not possible unless you are super-genious and do a really kick-ass research. Which she doesn’t seem to be/do. OK I could pass that one by, lets assume her research in cosmology kicks-ass.
    2. Several statements that proclaim that most of her collegues are the age of her father, that physicist do no sports and are in general not attractive. Well.., I would really like to introduce the author to a few of my collegues who are my age (~30), super hot, run Spartan races on regular basis, play soccer, basket ball etc. (Or my partner who happens to be a theoretical physicist and an ex-boxer). And yes, one or our collaboration meeting highlights is a soccer match.
    3. Several statements which say something like: “Science and passion so rarely go together” or “Her colleagues like the cool technical stuff but often forgot about the poetical beauty of the Universe” etc.
WHAT?!?! SERIOUSLY??! So we all are just a bunch of sad, boring people who do it for the money only….
    4. And no team-work in science – PLEASEEEEE! So who build and operates and analyses data from the telescopes and satellites, that I assume Chloe would have to use for her cosmology research too…? Not mentioning the LHC in CERN….

Sorry, for the overlong post I just got SOOO ANGRY!!!
Maybe the author could actually meet with some cosmologists before writing this book…
Ughgh, I decided to jump straight to book 3 and 4 and hope they more digestable………….
