Smart Bitches Hanukkah Party, Part Two

graphic image of menorah with a book in front. It's probably supposed to be the torah or something but I'm pretending it's a romanceIt’s time for night number two of our Hanukkah celebration, complete with eight straight nights of giveaways. Tonight is the second night of Hanukkah, so today there’s fun stuff to win!

As I mentioned yesterday, in addition to readerly items, we’ll be celebrating the different features and contributions from Elyse, RedHeadedGirl, Carrie, and Amanda.

But most of all, we’ll be celebrating you because the site wouldn’t be as awesome fun as it is without you.

So get ready and grabbed some fried food!

The second Smart Bitches Hanukkah Party giveaway celebrates Amanda’s Covers & Cocktails, and invites you to mix up and read! The prize? A stainless steel bar set, martini glasses, and a $25 bookstore gift card – winner’s choice of retailer! I wish it were easier to send liquor, but alas, that’s not an easy option, so we’re going with the accoutrements of mixed beverages, and the possibility of books, allowing you to fill in the libation and the library of your choosing!

Bar set including shaker, jigger, tongs, mixing paddle and spoon

The martini glasses are stemless, which I prefer in my glassware because I am klutzy and I talk with my hands. These hold 8 oz. and are 3 7/8″ (9.5cm) tall x 4″ in diameter (10cm).

Glass martini glasses that are short and on small bases instead of tall on thin stems

Aren’t they cute? I think so. I think most of my glassware is stemless at this point. Easy to wash in the dishwasher, too.

So, ready to drink enter to win?

Please leave a comment and tell us what you’d drink while reading! It doesn’t have to be alcoholic – but we welcome your beverage recommendations should you have any!

  1. Erica H says:

Hot chocolate with a dash of kahlua. Unless it’s really hot outside in which case a nice large glass of unsweetened iced tea,.

  2. Sabrina D. says:

If I’m out somewhere I love a good Mojito but at home it’s either hard cider or regular cider with caramel vodka–fall in a cup right there!

  3. Kay says:

This time of year you can’t go wrong with a strong cup of tea, though I rarely say no to cider.

  4. Rebe says:

I like a nice glass of wine when I’m reading, mainly because I so rarely get to read during the school year! I get to do double duty and relax.

  5. naomi says:

Often coffee/genmaicha, but gingersnap liqueur goes well with evening reading.

  6. Sarah L. says:

Realistically, it’s usually water, but if I’m in the mood for something a bit more adult, I usually go with something my friend Matt introduced me to, so I have no idea if it has a name:

2 parts sweet & sour mix
    1 part limoncello
    1 part Chambord

  7. Jill says:

Depending on my feels and my read, I’ll drink wine, tea, or hot cocoa. Recently I had a really rough day and my boyfriend put a shot of amaretto in my cocoa and now I need to try that while I read too.

  8. rissatoo says:

For mixed drinks, I prefer a very dirty martini. Bonus points for blue cheese stuffed olive(s). 🙂

  9. fullybooked says:

definitely tea and something sweet.true anytime of year

  10. Laine says:

Tea, strong, hot and black with a bit of honey. Or diet coke.

  11. ARS22 says:

Hot cocoa with marshmallow fluff. Yum

  12. Becky says:

This morning, it’s coffee (because drinking around first graders is frowned upon). But last night it was mulled wine! Cheers!

  13. Heather R says:

If given an option gin is always preferred. But gin is expensive so you’ll find me often curled up with some cold moscato and a hot book.

  14. Jen G. says:

I like to sip on bourbon while drinking, esp. in the winter. But if it’s a weeknight, I’ll stick with tea!

  15. GHN says:

I drink tea, most of the time. I m particularly fond of a variety that is gently flavoured with cardamon

  16. Cathy says:

I tend to drink whatever the characters in the book are drinking. So if I read a book where everyone is drinking tea, I’ll have tea. If everyone’s drinking beer, I want a beer.

  17. PamG says:

Back in the day, books actually introduced me to alcohol. My first exploratory bottle of scotch (purchased by a friend since I wasn’t legal) was inspired by Catherine Gaskin’s A Falcon for a Queen. Georgette Heyer introduced me to sherry, port, and my fave, madeira. Nowadays, I’m more likely to drink Earl Grey or a Dark & Stormy if I’m feeling feisty. Or I might savor a nano-brew like Ravenous Coffee Milk Stout (Woonsocket, RI) while I savor my book.

  18. Tina says:

Since I do most of my reading on the train I don’t drink when I read. On those rare occasions when I have the time to read at home it is what ever is close at hand.

  19. Abby says:

An old-fashioned with extra boozy maraschino cherries!

  20. Farah says:

I love tea or mulled wine in winter.

  21. Cat C says:

My favorite liquid treat is fizzy water with a few splashes of cranberry-apple juice. But mostly I stick to water, especially when my reading is sufficiently indulgent! And I don’t drink much alcohol these days, but hot chocolate with some peppermint schnapps is an excellent way to stay warm and cozy in the winter.

  22. cayenne says:

Wine, tea, coffee, anything. Usually not a cocktail though!

  23. Brooke Berger says:

    Definitely Wine

  24. Nerdalisque says:

Ideally, Jameson’s and ginger ale, but then I’d fall asleep and have to stop reading.

  25. Kimberly says:

I’m a tea drinker when I read (if I’m feeling fancy and sophisticated). Or water, when it’s late at night and I should be asleep. I’m pretty lightweight when it comes to booze, so I don’t imagine drinking and reading would work out well for me.

  26. Miriam of Leon says:

I’m dealing with bronchitis at the moment, and am supposed to drink half my weight (except for the unit change from pounds to ounces) in fluid every day. So when I’m at home, I’m swanning around with ice water in a wine glass. Somehow, the elegance of the wine glass makes me more willing to drink.

    Chag Channukkah Sameach!

  27. K.N.O'Rear says:

Picture a rainy of snowy day, it is way to cold to go outside, so you curl up with a good book(or e-reader depending on your preference ). A cat is in your lap ( or whatever your pet preference is )and on the nightstand next to you is a warm cup of coffee, the aroma of the beverage fills the air. If later in the day imagine a steamy mug of hot chocolate or a glass of mulled wine. The mulled wine tastes like a Grapey cider and it’s delicious.

  28. Carrie Z says:

    Hot Chocolate!

  29. Flip says:

I make a killer leondrop martini. Not to sweet, not too tart

  30. Lynnd says:

I usually drink water or tea when I’m reading, except at the cottage. Then it’s a nice glass of wine, preferably on the deck :).

  31. Amy Raby says:

    Frozen strawberry margarita!

  32. Kat T. says:

It’s usually english breakfast tea for me.

  33. Elise says:

Trader Joes Spiced Apple Cider served warm and spiked with dark rum.

  34. ppyajunebug says:

Usually a big mug of hot chocolate, but sometimes I’ll have a beer or cider if it’s been a really long day.

  35. Athena says:

Connemara Peated Irish Single Malt Whiskey — something I discovered while out with friends last weekend, which pairs nicely with the Scottish books I’ve been re-reading in between term papers.

  36. Anne says:

What a great give-away. I agree about the stemless glasses. As far as beverages while reading: tea during the day — mint, green or chai tea, depending on my mood. At night, during the winter, hot chocolate spiked with Frangelico or Amaretto. From Thanksgiving to New Years, I’ve adopted my brother-in-law’s tradition — a glass of Bailey’s Irish Cream after dinner, although I usually limit the Bailey’s to the weekends to make the bottle last longer!

  37. Kimberly B. says:

I really like drinking tea, especially some of Adagio Teas fandom blends, like Jane Bennett (from Lizzie Bennett diaries) and Abbie Mills. Thanks for the great giveaway!

  38. SeventhWave says:

It may not be the most interesting drink, but lately I’ve been drinking beer while I read. As it gets cooler, the beers get heavier/darker 🙂

  39. Beck says:

Great giveaway! I have a few reading drinks depending on the time of day, time of the year, and my mood. So, sometimes it’s tea, hot chocolate, wine, sangria, beer, or pineapple juice/vodka (or some other cocktail we can come up with).

    P.S. I’m enjoying your disclaimers.

  40. Vasha says:

I have recently discovered that port for after-dinner sipping is really good — old customs still make sense.
