Scones — especially for Christmas morning!

  2. Monica says:

I bake only for the holidays. All my family’s favorite cookies!

  3. Turophile says:

I don’t bake that much but the Penzey’s cocoa is great for hot chocolate.

  4. Susan Douds says:

I love making my mother’s pumpkin pie and her gingerbread cake.

  5. April says:

I love to bake cookies. My Mom taught my brother, sister, and I how to bake when we were little kids. I made some chocolate chip cookies last night and have more dough in the fridge.

  6. ChrisK says:

My favorite thing to bake is bread. It is so satisfying to get right and warm bread out of the oven is amazing. I also love making Danish and pastries. : )

  7. Kate says:

My new favorite thing in the kitchen is watching my ten year old daughter. She’s become a bit of a pastry chef this year, and I love seeing her confidence and curiosity, even if my waistline is struggling with the almost daily muffins, cakes, and cookies!

  8. Carmen Cruz says:

Krispy Kreme Doughnut Bread Pudding…there’s only 5 other words which are better to hear: All Your Books Are Free!

  9. JenM says:

I have a horrible oven so I rarely bake, but when I do, I make these little brownie treats with peanut butter centers. My hubs found the recipe on line, then printed it out with a note “we must make these”. They are so yummy.

  10. Lisa M says:

    Steak. Rawr!

  11. Sabrina D. says:

    Apple sauce…so yummy!

  12. Oh, Please. I just gotta win this one. I adore historical cookbooks and have never seen one from France.

My favorite thing to cook is a recipe taught to me by my Neopolitan grandmother. She spoke no English. I spoke no Italian. But she taught me to me The World’s Best Lasagna.

I am dying of curiosity: what is Baking Spice?

  13. HannahS says:

I love to bake. Anything really. I make cookies more than anything else, just because they’re pretty quick, and forgiving. I’d love to make a creme brulee at some point…

  14. Liviania says:

Lately, I’ve been on a brownie-making kick. So simple, so delicious.

  15. Karin says:

I’d like to enter the contest but I don’t see the entry form on my phone
I love to bake, pie, bread, muffins, everything, but one of my favorites is my mother’s sour cream coffee cake, it’s made in a bundt pan.

  16. Dominika says:

I like making pierogi, especially with fruit like strawberries and blueberries. I have really nice memories of making these with my babcia while she stilled lived with us in the U.S. I just about cried when she went back to Poland.

  17. Marlene Pressner says:

I really want the apron . . . okay, so I don’t cook. I live alone and I got into the habit of lunch being my main meal, so I graze breakfast and dinner. having said that, I cook once/year for company and I go from not having even an onion in my refrigerator to cooking an entire meal for a dozen or more people (seriously: chicken, rice, salad, 1-2 veg, 3 baked desserts, and 5 appetizer-like courses made from good-luck foods). I should not be allowed into the kitchen unprotected, and yet I find myself intrigued by all the baked goods listed above . . . if only I had someone to share with . . . sorry, I digress . . . anyhow, back to the question: I actually like reading new cookbooks and trying out new recipes – there is always something new and something delicious (sweet or savory) to be discovered.

  18. tarja says:

Gingerbreadcookies = a must for the holiday season!

  19. Karen says:

I love to bake, and particularly if the item contains chocolate. It is hard to decide which is my favorite – triple chocolate mousse cake, fudge bottom pie, death by chocolate… The list is nearly endless! I really love to stay up late and bake when everyone else is asleep. I make many fewer mistakes that way!

  20. Michelle says:

Brownies and cookies are my favorite things to bake, especially Christmas cookies

  21. EC Spurlock says:

Thanks to Red Headed Girl for all the historical recipes and info this year!

This time of year I am baking All The Cookies (well, I bake them all year, never leave a cookie jar empty, say I! but I make a lot for gifts during the holidays) but really my favorite thing to bake is bread. Homemade bread is such a sensory feast – the feel of the dough, that special, blissful scent of baking, the texture of warm bread with butter. Bonus, it helps me stave off arthritis with the warmth and motion of kneading and the enzymes from the yeast that get absorbed into my hands.

  22. Susan says:

Pies! I’m so into pies right now. They’re lots of work if you do them right but totally worth it.

  23. Jazzlet says:

I love baking yeast cake, my family’s every day version of Cornish Saffron Cake. The smell of sweet yeast raised cake is heavenly.

  24. Rikki says:

I love baking sugar cookies. You can do so many amazing things with a pretty simple recipe.

  25. jw says:

Pretty much the only thing I regularly bake is this apple and pear pie. I am always glad I baked something when I’m eating the pie, but generally I’m way too lazy for it.

Now that serial is back, maybe I’ll start baking while listening to episodes again. I’ll make a really bloody looking raspberry pie.

  26. Zoya says:

    Brownies

  27. stephanie says:

I love baking just about anything with sugar in it, but my favorite is a classic chocolate chip cookie. (Because it’s my favorite dough to eat, of course.)

  28. Janet says:

I will bake anything sweet, but I am partial to pies. And the smaller the pie, the better.

  29. Tonya K says:

    Cookies and fresh hot coffee!

  30. Kacey s says:

I love making chocolate chip cookies. But most of my baking time is spent on decorated sugar cookies.

  31. BillieB says:

Biscotti and shortbread. One batch of each can be divided into several different flavors, so it’s easy variety. Both recipes are simple–though biscotti is time-consuming–but tend to impress people at parties.

Also, cookies from refrigerated cookie dough, though that’s about half-and-half baked to just eaten straight-up.

  32. Elizabeth says:

I love making Millionaire’s Shortbread, but I only make it to take to parties or places, because otherwise I might eat the whole thing.

  33. Terri Pullara says:

Italian Sesame Cookies. They are easy to make and everyone loves them. Usually make them around the holidays to share!

  34. DeeJayBee says:

I love making bread. Kneading the dough is therapeutic, the smell of fresh bread is wondering, and eating it with butter is the best!

  35. Sara says:

This time of year I’m a bit obsessed with gingerbread. Last year, I made Star Wars gingerbread cutouts, which was fun. This year it’s ninjabread men and a gingerbread bundt cake. So, so good. There will also be other cookies – I bake enough that I’ve created my own recipes for some stamped cookies, and some bundt cakes and stuff. But right now, gingerbread is where it’s at.

  36. Rebekah C says:

Banana bread! Love to make banana bread!

  37. Kathleen says:

My favourite things to make are cinnamon rolls – so delicious and such a great way to start a holiday morning!

  38. Yaara says:

I make a mean stroganoff, but I like to cook in general – big meals for friends are always fun.

  39. Baking cookies today for a party tomorrow. Question will they last the 24 hours before the guests arrive?

  40. Katie Lynn says:

I like baking cookies the best. I have a recipe for gingersnaps (with TWO KINDS OF GINGER!) that I plan on making this week as a test for Christmas gifts. I, of course, will valiantly eat those tests.
