A really good antipasti
I’m pretty proud of the carrot cake I made recently.
Recently, Pulled pork.
Just got a slow cooker and pork shoulder has been on sale at my local supermarket for a while. Yum!
Desert wise, brownies.
I have a super simple recipe for dark chocolate cupcakes that I love making.
Kipfel (rich dough wrapped into crescents around filling)
Pralines….but the weather really matters! Low humidity is essential.
I don’t get to bake or make the sweet stuff as much as I used to when I was younger since my sharing options are more limited these days. However, I have a recipe for an easy-peasy cake gingerbread that was yummy, especially with orange sherbet. I keep running out of time to try to make Grandma’s Pumpkin Chiffon Pie at Thanksgiving. I swear it’s a conspiracy since I refuse to eat baked pumpkin pie.
The one holiday item that I swear I’m going to get done this year is Krumkake. My matrilineal great-grandmother was Norwegian and left almost everything behind to come to America with two small kids. She did manage to find space for some of the cast iron tools for making certain traditional goodies and one of them is the Krumkake iron (along with the wooden rolling cone. The batter is equal parts butter or shortening, sugar, eggs, and flour with a little flavoring. The result is a delicate, lacy wafer that has to be rolled before it cools and sets. They get the name because they collapse into crumbs if not handled quite carefully. It’s tricky to do by one’s self, but they are a lovely guilty pleasure.
Cookies. Peanut Butter cookies especially. Chocolate chip is high up there as well.
I want to do a comparison bake of different types of chocolate chip cookie recipes this holiday to find the perfect one!
I second Jenny’s cheesecake. New York style–not too sweet, nothing on top, dense and perfect.
I love to make sugar cookies! It’s so relaxing to decorate them for the holidays, including Hanukkah. 🙂
I love to make bread. There is nothing better than bread the is still warm from oven slathered with butter and jam.
Baking? What is that? Since my husband has embraced the paleo life style, I no longer do any baking. My goal this season is to un-embrace sugar. However, I did enjoy baking chocolate cookies on a cold day–something I remember my mom doing when I was growing up.
Bread! Dinner rolls, loafs, sweet rolls, anything with yeast. And it’s still always magic when I take that first bite.
A few summers ago, I perfected my tollhouse chocolate chip cookie. I prefer a more solid cookie, so I make sure the butter is just barely softened. I use bread flour instead of all-purpose for density (have to add a bit more bread flour than the recipe calls for). I split baking powder/baking soda 50/50, so the cookie rises a bit. The dough is refrigerated overnight so the glutens break down, resulting in a softer cookie. Bake until deep golden brown for a slightly crunchy exterior. Who knew there was so much science going on in a chocolate chip cookie?
I actually love making fun oatmeal, and all of those would easily wind up in it. Throw in some dried cranberries and pumpkin seeds and call it good.
Cookies. I love baking all sorts of cookies – and rarely do I make a single batch or type of cookie when I bake. Heck, the other morning I woke at 3am, and since I couldn’t sleep, I baked white chocolate macadamia nut, and standard chocolate chip cookies. Some went to a helpful neighbor as a Thank You, but the rest were enjoyed by friends. By nightfall, there were only 5 cookies left in the house. Guess I need to do some more baking… 🙂
I love muffins fresh out of the oven on chilly mornings. Pair with vegan cheez grits and breakfast is served. 🙂
I do not bake often. I do enjoy making chocolate chip cookies, bowl full of comfort. Have been having a craving for the ginger cake from Smitten Kitchen, so good.
I like to bake sugar cookies or pecan balls. My sons love my Shoo-fly pie recipe.
Cookies! Right now it’s sugar cookies because we can cut them into shapes and decorate as we like.
I love baking cookies and quick breads to give away.
Muffins & quickbreads of various sorts. My new favorite is raspberry jam cake with chocolate chips.
Definitely love making cookies!
I love baking, and my favourite thing to make is bread – sliced bread for toast and sandwiches, buns for making sandwiches to take for lunch, fancy artisan bread to take to potlucks, cinnamon bread made with my nephews and nieces for Christmas morning…
I love to make quick bread
I love making klejner, these deep-fried Danish Christmas cookies I always made with my mom and my grandma. Cardamom FTW!
You know those *delicious* oat fudge bars at Starbucks? I make a pretty damn good “knock-off” gluten-free version of those… in fact, I’m making some RIGHT NOW…
I love to bake. My favorite thing to make is cinnamon rolls because they impress my Co-workers every time I bring them to work.
I love baking snicker doodle cookies with my daughter every Christmas. They are the cookies she leaves out for Santa. I love that I can pass my great great grandmothers recipes on to another generation.
Mince pies, even though they can be a bit of a sod sometimes, and I STILL haven’t got them tasting as good as my mother’s.
Bread. I loooove baking bread. We haven’t purchased bread at the store since February!
Upside down Pear Gingerbread (Epicurious.com)
Aunt Andree’s No-Bake Cheesecake (Ancient C**l Wh*p recipe, subbing hand whipped cream for CW & fresh raspberries & melted raspberry jam for canned pie filling on top.Yum.
Ancient Baker’s Brownie recipe w/walnuts and dried cherries.
Deviled eggs–Pinch-dash-taste method; hey, people like ’em!
Barbecue tofu sandwiches. Any kind of quinoa salad. For baking I like chocolate crinkle cookies, in part because they are chocolate, in part because the recipe makes a ton. Thanks for the great giveaway!
I make cakes so I can play with frosting them. Doesn’t matter what kind of cake (chocolate mousse and carrot are family favorites) it’s the decorating that makes it fun.
I definitely bake muffins most often. I can try to fool myself into thinking that they aren’t as bad as cakes, cupcakes, brownies, etc. since I think of muffins as breakfast food. And they don’t have any icing on top like cupcakes.
Penzey’s spices are the best. I converted over to all Penzey’s a few years ago. I love them.
My favorite thing to bake is cheesecake. I’ve made so many that I can mostly do it from memory, which is fun.
Sugar cookies with frosting painting them!
Dessert is definitely my favorite thing to make, especially anything chocolate. My recipe box is mostly full of dessert recipes. It’s kind of sad. LOL.
My favourite thing to make is Mars Bar slice – it’s really easy (4 ingredients!) and tastes really good and chocolatey 😀
