Knitting, drinking tea, and listening to a podcast is one of my best ways to relax. The first, of course, is reading.
SandyL
Reading while I pet one of my cats. 🙂
Two relaxing combinations:
1) Elliptical machine at the gym, music that helps block out the rest of the gym, and a novel on my iPad
2) Audiobook and long-distance driving (preferably on northern Canadian highways where I worry more about wildlife wandering on to the road than I do about the other drivers).
I’ve recently crocheted a crapton of holiday prezzies, and as a result, needlework is not high on my relaxing list right now… ask me again in January or February.
So I’m reverting to Habits v.1, which is reading + cappuccino, full octane in the morning, decaf in the afternoon/evening.
@Ingrid Nooooooo! They took away your books! I was the kid who got punished by having tv taken away but was secretly fine with it because I could read.
@Maire I’m also on a mitten kick! Actually fingerless gloves. I’m on the fourth pair now
Turkish coffee, fat cats used as blankets, a good book and radioparadise.com in the background…
My favorite way to relax is with a pot of white jasmine tea, huddled under an impossibly fluffy blanket – while in my PJ’s – with my Kindle in hand. If my cats crawl on top of me to nap, all the better!
In Florida with my best friend, early-ish in the morning, coffee in hand, cat on lap, book optional.
Tea plus early mornings on my deck with my dog before the rest of the neighborhood wakes up. It works best in summer with nice weather though. 🙂
Read with the dog with me or on the commute home listening to audio books makes it more bearable.
Coffee, book, cat on lap, lounging on my patio – heaven!
Mine is reading in bed, while drinking hot chocolate. Mmmmm…
My favorite relaxing combo is a warm cup of tea, a cat in my lap and a good book. All this is even better if it is rainy or snowy outside.
I relax by listening to an audiobook while I walk and knit. With those great wrist project bags, I can work on a sock while listening to a book and strolling through my neighborhood.
I made Elyse’s Outlander cowl last year. That was an amazing relaxation activity. Big needles, big yarn, two hours later you have a cowl!
Snow + cafe au lait + handwork of any kind. Currently working embroidered borders for a quilt. But the niece made a comment about not having enough scarves, so a trip to the yarn shop is in the offing.
Reading in a nice hot bubble bath with a mug of tea or a glass of wine is my favorite way to unwind. Of course, half of the time I get too relaxed and start drifting off to sleep and have to get out before I drown! Lol
Book, blanket, latte, and cat.
Wine, crocheting and a movie I’ve seen nine million times (preferably a musical).
Mine is an extra-big cup of tea, a book with a happy ever after, and a huge blanket to snuggle under.
There are some days when nothing will do but to crawl back into the flannel sheets of my bed and pick up a good book. A couple of hours of this and I’m ready for just about anything… assuming I can put the book down.
Wine, crochet and a movie I’ve seen a billion times.
This is going to sound bad: sitting on the couch with House Hunters on mute and reading fan fiction on my iPad. It’s the perfect lazy Sunday.
Curling up in bed with my Kindle and a good romance novel is my favorite, though if I’m feeling “social” a close second is watching Miss Fisher with my fiance while I crochet.
Knitting while listening to an audiobook or podcast is a great way for me to relax and refocus my mind away from all of the stressful crap. Once my mind is refocused, I can sit down and immerse myself in a good book with a cup of tea or glass of wine. I also love to knit when I am a passenger on long car rides – the time and the miles just fly by.
Strong black tea, sugar free almond milk, sugar free irish cream syrup, irish whiskey. Comfy bed/pillow fortress. Netflix or kindle. Christmas lights twinkling.
Book, tea, blanket, cat, and no kids is my perfect way to relax.
I love looking at water. We live a few blocks from Lake Michigan and watching the water is extremely calming. That’s why I love cruises that have LOTS of at-sea time. LA to Hawaii is full of days “away from the things of man”.
Favorite relaxing combo is strong black tea with milk and honey, curled up under a snuggly blanket with a brand new romance to read. Gotta have one of my dogs keeping my feet warm too.
Hot chocolate and a good book <3
Tea and a book are my favorite way to relax, but tea and knitting would be my close second.
@Kim W:
You’re not alone. I watch House Hunters and shows like that on mute, too. I want to see the different places but rarely if ever want to hear what inane things people are saying about them.
Faorite relaxing combination? A freshly brewed pot of tea, a good ebook on my PC, and a good knitting project on the needles. Yes, it’s possible to read and knit at the same time.
A cup of hot tea (usually peppermint) and my dog curled up in my lap while I read a book! My dog (Bruce) knows that he as to wait until I’m in the chair with my blanket spread out before he’s allowed to climb in.
A book, a warm beverage and my cat
Don’t get to do it often, but a nice long hike followed by a hot tub is my ideal relaxation plan.
Crocheting usually helps me find my zen. But, books are good. I like background noise while I read, but I soon block it out.
Snug in bed with the central heating on, a hot cup of tea at hand and hours ahead with nothing to do but read and relax.
At this time of year, relaxing means leaning back in comfortable recliner with room lighted by Christmas tree, watching seasonal tv episodes or concerts while knitting or crocheting without pattern. Must also have pretty tray with delicate cup and tea pot on table within easy reach.
Hot chocolate with Marie biscuits and that book I just started.
