Let me start by saying that The Rogue Not Taken by Sarah MacLean is my favorite book of hers to date. If you’ve read her, or know me, then you know that I just said a thing.
I mean, there is a scene in this book where the hero sensually rubs honey on the heroine’s body while she dreamily describes the bookstore she’ll own one day.
Damn.
Usually we run reviews on or after release date so that if you think to yourself, I want to read that NOW, you can go and buy it.
However, The Rogue Not Taken doesn’t come out until 29 December, which may have led you to think, WTF Bitches?! Did you not hear me?! I want to read that NOW!
Fear not! We have a giveaway – an Early WORD Giveaway, in fact!
I have five bound manuscript copies of The Rogue Not Taken by Sarah MacLean to give away. This is so early, it’s a bound manuscript, not a galley. Cool, huh? Five SUPER EARLY style books!
PLUS! I have a grand prize, in addition to one of the five bound manuscripts: A $75 gift card to WORD Brooklyn, which is MacLean’s local independent bookstore and an enthusiastic supporter of the romance genre – which as we all know can sometimes be a challenge to find in indie-bookstore-land. WORD will ship if you’re not in Brooklyn, so if you win, you can order your books and they’ll have them delivered to you.
In fact, WORD is also taking pre-orders for The Rogue Not Taken, so if you’re totally taken with the book after you read it (I know, you saw what I did there), you could potentially order a copy as a gift for someone who would be equally taken with it. (Ok, I’ll stop.)
So, want to enter? Sure! Just leave a comment below and tell us, if you would be gifting Rogues hither and yon, to whom would you send a Rogue? And if you have no recipients suitable for Rogue gifting, please feel free to tell us what book you’d buy for yourself!
Standard disclaimers apply: void where prohibited. I’m not being compensated for this giveaway. Open to residents of US and Canada (sorry, y’all!) where permitted by applicable law. Must be over 18 and prepared to read and shop and read some more to win. Your mileage may vary. Objects in mirror are closer than they appear, especially if you are farsighted. Whereas, upon participation in the contest as aforesaid, said participant shall nonetheless deliver hereunto all such paraphernalia as reasonably necessary and appropriate. Winners will be chosen by random integer on Friday, 13 November, and announced same day. Thank you to Avon for the prizes!
Good luck!
Winner winner chicken dinner! We have winners!

Thank you to Avon for the prizes, and to everyone who entered. I hope you’re looking forward to Rogues of your own come December!

I would give a copy to my friend who loves romance. I’m a huge fan of MacLean, so I really hope I win!
Who would I gift this too? Hmm I’m about the only romance reader I know IRL. I might be persuaded to lend this book to my sister after I’m done with it though!
Libraries, libraries, libraries. And I have a very good Lady Friend who I am slowly introducing to romance novels, and this seems like another good start.
Oh my! Me….me….me….I am so looking forward to this book! I don’t have anyone in my immediate circle that likes romance – or at least admits to it……..sadly. (Which is why I love this website so much.) I would use a gift card for Lisa Kleypas’ Cold Hearted Rake to read after Rogue.
If I was sending someone a Rogue, I’d send one to my sister, Midge. She enjoys a good romance now and again (although probably not as much as I do, haha). And after she finished it, I’d totally borrow it to read it myself.
None of my friends read romance, so I would totally keep this rogue for myself. I love all of Sarah MacLean’s books. I have a large wish list, so I’m sure I can think of something else to get. I’m thinking of catching up with Shana Galen’s latest series and I love Jan DeLima’s Celtic Wolves series – need to get the latest.
I would give a rogue to one of my writing buddies, since I’m trying to get her to join my romance book club.
I’d give a Rogue to my sister who is also a voracious reader of great romances. She’d enjoy the gift as much as I would and that’s what matters, right?
Any excessive Rogues would be gifted to my best friend, reading partner, and HIVEMIND sharer Katie Lynn.
I would gift a Rogue to my awesome co-worker who introduced me to the world of paranormal romance & use the gift card to buy the entire Nalini Singh Guild Hunters series.
I love Sarah MacLean! Would love to read this one early and I would gift a book or two to several friends.
Gift a Rogue? Please, I keep such things for myself!
Oh, OK, if forced … my mom, who when she discovered me reading her “books for adults” simply said, “You can read this but if you don’t understand something, you have to come ask me. If I find out you didn’t, you can’t read them.” A policy that lead to some interesting, awkward yet truthful conversations. Thanks mom!
I’d keep for myself!
My wish list is long but I’d buy the new Lisa Kleypas
Wow! People really want this rogue! So do I so I could bring it to the office to pass around. Those women really need some HEA in their lives.
I would send one to my friend Emily – we’ve been friends since elementary school in rural Michigan. After I finally caved and became an admitted romance reader (only a couple years ago!), it’s been SO FUN to talk books with her and exchange recommendations and I’d love to read this together.
Also, I should really just get myself to WORD already, since I live in the same borough!
I would gift a rogue to my oldest sister who, when I temporarily lost my eyesight and couldn’t read, bought me the audio version of Outlander so I wouldn’t miss out on Jamie. Now that’s dedication to the cause!
I would gift my best friend!
I’d gift a Rogue to my sister-in-law who could both appreciate and use one 😉 teehee
My godmother, who I know appreciates a nice bit of rogue-y spice!
I would gift it to my former college roommate and dear friend whom I’ve only recently discovered shares my love of romance novels (after 7 years of friendship! All that time we could have had together). She’s definitely more into paranormals and fantasy, but she loves every high adventure, banter-heavy, crazysauce historical I recommend
All the books I can! And will share with mum ecause it has been a hard week for the whole family.
I’ve been talking up the Rogues to my sister forEVer now, but she’s taking her sweet time jumping on my bandwagon! So she’d definitely get a copy. 🙂
My brain has apparently taken a vacation (probably due to all the Dawsons’s Creek binging I’ve been doing lately) and i totally misunderstood the part about giving a rogue thing. My first thought was that I’d take a rogue for myself. Now that I do understand it, I have to say that I don’t know anyone else who actually reads historical romance, so the book that I’d want to get for myself would be a paperback copy of Three Fates by Nora Roberts. It is my favorite book and I have a copy on my Kindle, but there’s just something about having a physical copy of my favorite book.
A literal Rogue or the book? If it’s the book, that would be my best friend, a harried biochemistry student who lives far away from me now. I think romance novels has kind of been a link for us since we both left for college and our texts are full of cat pictures and detailed discussions of Kleypas novels.
If it’s a literal rogue…. couldn’t I just prop him up in my living room? Like imagine that J.Lo role reversal music video where she’s in the mansion with a bunch of half naked romance novel cover ripped dudes, but with one guy.
As for books I want for myself… like three years ago Junot Diaz said he was working on a Dominican super heroine zombie apocalypse novel and the New Yorker printed an excerpt titled Monstro that blew my mind. I want to read that book so bad. Maybe if I’m good this christmas it’ll get a title and a publish date. (Although in an interview he said he might abandon it. ; n 😉
I would give a rogue to my good friend and co-worker.
What a great review btw!
My best friend since 7th grade who has stuck by me all these years and from all those miles away. She gave me my first romance ever, a Cassie Edwards!
I would give a copy to my dear friend and fellow romance lover, Laura.
I would gift a rogue to my sister. She just turned 18 and could use a little rogue-ish fun in her life.
It’s mine, you understand! Mine, mine, all mine! Go, go, go! Mine, all mine! *Ahem*
Unfortunately, I’m the only one I know who reads romance regularly, so would almost certainly keep it. Though I recently discovered that my 80 year old mother really enjoyed Anne Gracie’s The Autumn Bride, so the rest of that series for a start. [I accidentally left one of my library books in her stash when delivering them to her. Hmmm, maybe I should “accidentally” do that on purpose more often.] She’s a dedicated mystery reader and looks down on Romance overall. The Philistine.
I would definitely get her Balogh’s Survivor series because if they couldn’t change her mind, I don’t know what will. With the added bonus being that if that doesn’t work, they would also be mine, cause mom shares everything with me. We’re talking a win-win, here.
I would gift a Rogue to my dear friend and college roommate. Describing the bookstore she will own one day? Yes. Please.
A rogue for my sister.
I would give one to my boy friend (who is a boy and a friend but not a boyfriend)!
I’d probably give it to my mom. She and I are both big into those Regencies.
I’d give a Rogue to my colleague Laura, who is my go-to person for romance recommendations and all-around swooning.
Right away I can think of 4 romance readers who should receive a Rogue, but at the top of the list is my Grammy! She shuttled me all over South Carolina when I was growing up & she always had a romance novel in the car! I know my Aunt J, who must’ve bought every book Danielle Steel ever published, would read it, too. 🙂
I don’t have anybody that I know of that reads romances (except for my mother, who doesn’t read anything even remotely racy), so I would buy myself The Lake House. It’s on my Amazon wish list. And I think the cover looks innocent enough to actually take out in public!
I would gift Rogue to friends who don’t read romance books, because Sarah MacLean is my standard “romance gateway” author – I lend out her books with the challenge to read them and then deny that romance books can be funny, well-written, and free of cliches (well, maybe not free of cliches – but who minds a well-written cliche?).
I would love to demonstrate how altruistic I am by giving a copy to someone else, but I would selfishly keep it for myself! Then I would use the gift certificate as an excuse to visit Brooklyn and NYC.
I don’t think I’d send an actual real-life rogue to any of my close girlfriends — I think we’ve of a stage in life where dealing with a real-life rogue just makes us tired, not exhilarated. BUT for the BOOK, I would send it to all my close girlfriends! I’m really excited about this series.
I’d gift a rogue to my bestie, who is pregnant and bed-bound for the next 5 months. She can use all the spice she can get!
