The Rogue Not Taken: An Early WORD Giveaway!

The Rogue Not Taken

You might have seen Elyse’s very joyful review of the upcoming Sarah MacLean novel, The Rogue Not Taken today:

Let me start by saying that The Rogue Not Taken by Sarah MacLean is my favorite book of hers to date. If you’ve read her, or know me, then you know that I just said a thing.

I mean, there is a scene in this book where the hero sensually rubs honey on the heroine’s body while she dreamily describes the bookstore she’ll own one day.

Damn.

Usually we run reviews on or after release date so that if you think to yourself, I want to read that NOW, you can go and buy it.

However, The Rogue Not Taken doesn’t come out until 29 December, which may have led you to think, WTF Bitches?! Did you not hear me?! I want to read that NOW!

Fear not! We have a giveaway – an Early WORD Giveaway, in fact!

I have five bound manuscript copies of The Rogue Not Taken by Sarah MacLean to give away. This is so early, it’s a bound manuscript, not a galley. Cool, huh? Five SUPER EARLY style books!

WORD BrooklynPLUS! I have a grand prize, in addition to one of the five bound manuscripts: A $75 gift card to WORD Brooklynwhich is MacLean’s local independent bookstore and an enthusiastic supporter of the romance genre – which as we all know can sometimes be a challenge to find in indie-bookstore-land. WORD will ship if you’re not in Brooklyn, so if you win, you can order your books and they’ll have them delivered to you.

In fact, WORD is also taking pre-orders for The Rogue Not Taken, so if you’re totally taken with the book after you read it (I know, you saw what I did there), you could potentially order a copy as a gift for someone who would be equally taken with it. (Ok, I’ll stop.)

So, want to enter? Sure! Just leave a comment below and tell us, if you would be gifting Rogues hither and yon, to whom would you send a Rogue? And if you have no recipients suitable for Rogue gifting, please feel free to tell us what book you’d buy for yourself!

Standard disclaimers apply:  void where prohibited. I’m not being compensated for this giveaway. Open to residents of US and Canada (sorry, y’all!) where permitted by applicable law. Must be over 18 and prepared to read and shop and read some more to win. Your mileage may vary. Objects in mirror are closer than they appear, especially if you are farsighted. Whereas, upon participation in the contest as aforesaid, said participant shall nonetheless deliver hereunto all such paraphernalia as reasonably necessary and appropriate. Winners will be chosen by random integer on Friday, 13 November, and announced same day. Thank you to Avon for the prizes!

Good luck!

  1. Candice says:

Book I most want, huh? ALL THE ONES ON MY WISH LIST, but I think the one I want the most is Lair of Dreams, the sequel to Libba Bray’s The Diviners.

  2. Katie says:

I’d give one to my girlfriend, who is definitely the type to appreciate a good Rogue. Other than that, I’d have to go to Brooklyn to browse, even though I live in Queens and ne’er shall one pass between the two boroughs (at least not without taking the G, surely the most perilous of endeavors.)

  3. ijinx says:

eh, I’m just here to announce (cry about it, more likely) that I’m super pissed this competition is not open to people in Taiwan, of which I am one.

  4. Jessica says:

I would give a copy to my bestie. She’s the most fun person to read books with, to laugh and to cry and to squee with. <3

  5. Kerry says:

I’ve waited forever and a day to buy the Lyon Redmond new book so probably that one. And some Elizabeth Hoyt backlist. I keep hoping something will go on sale but I’m getting impatient.

  6. Dayle says:

I would give a Rogue to my friends Morgana & Brian, because they both love Regencies. This sounds like a great book!

  7. Francesca says:

There’s no one to whom I could give a romance, but my months-long book slump continues to the point where I don’t even want to try a new author for fear of disappointment. I guess a gift card might tempt me to give a chance to one or two I’ve found intriguing like Theresa Romain or Molly O’Keefe.

  8. Lostshadows says:

Hmm… I can probably get to Brooklyn.

I think I might gift my mother with a rogue, because I am a good and generous daughter.

  9. camilla says:

I would give it to my husband…for ideas!!!!!!

  10. jaymzangel says:

I would give a copy to my mom, as I am her personal librarian We both love Sarah’s books

  11. Alyssa says:

I would give a copy to my best friend who could use a rouge in her life. Hopefully her little kids don’t destroy it.

  12. Harper says:

Hmm, ‘a Rogue’ as in the book, or ‘a Rogue’ as in an actual rogue? 😉

I share romance libraries with a close friend of mine, so she’d be a top contender, but I suspect that my mother might also like a copy, as I suspect she enjoys romance more than she lets on…considering that I found some of my gateway books in our basement as a teenager.

  13. Nailah says:

I would buy Diana Gabaldon or Ilona Andrews. Gabaldon’s books are never on sale when I look for them and I need more. I just love Andrews no matter what they write (and they have written a LOT).

  14. Robin says:

    Definitely my best friend!

  15. Gail says:

My godmother would get a copy of this from me, romance reading is one of the many things we have in common.

  16. Mochabean says:

So I read this is as “what gift would you give a Rogue” and I’m all like Wollenstonecraft box set? But then I re read so I’d gift this book to my friend and romance reading partner who publically talks romance at work with me

  17. Abby says:

Is it selfish to say I would keep all Rogues for myself? I totally would.

  18. quizzie says:

I don’t think I’m eligable for this as I’m a Brit, but would certainly like a rogue for my mum. After dad died she quit nursing, became a librarian and let me run amok around the books after school. She’s now got into dressage with Bailey her pretty palomino so I know what it’s like to have someone proudly showing off their rossettes (I had a New Forest Pony that was quite possibly an undercover assassin). Bill Bryson also sent her a postcard when she sent him fan mail. (She’s sixty seven).

  19. Rachel says:

I would give one to my dear friend and sister in squee– the same one who is receiving the Outlander coloring book for a pre-holiday present!

  20. Tam says:

I’d give it to my friend who now has four small boys, and likes to read while esconced on mountains of laundry. She would probably appreciate a Rogue provided he promised not to draw on the walls or stuff Cheezits inside the appliances or commit pungent, unforgivable sins inside her wardrobe.

  21. KarenM says:

I have a dude friend who’s realizing he enjoys romance in movies and books, so I think sending him a rogue would be a nice move on my part.

  22. Mary K says:

@quizzie, man I wish I could be as awesome as your mom!

No one else I know reads romances, so I’d keep it for myself. But I would definitely share the ideas with a certain someone. 😉

  23. Tresgrumpy says:

I need to buy the Chernow Hamilton bio because everyone I know wants to read it and the library has like a 5 year wait or some nonsense.

  24. @SB Sarah says:

@ijinx: I’m sorry – I totally understand how upset you are! I wish it were easier to just say, “whole planet eligible” but alas, there are all these different factors. I’m sorry about that – really, really sorry.

  25. Olivia says:

I would totally give a Rogue to myself, hello early Christmas present! 😉
And I would probably order Blood Kiss by Ward, comes out Dec. 1!!!! And sooo many more, but I don’t have the list handy right now.

  26. Ellepkay says:

First copy goes to ME, ME, ME, but since I love Ms. MacLean’s books I want to share too – so I would gift to my sister who is also a huge romance fan and also my best friend who I have recently converted to romance reading.

  27. M Gail says:

Selfish me, I would read it first, then pass it along to my best friend, then we would meet for a looong lunch to talk about it.

  28. SpinThePickle says:

I’d be gifting a Rogue to my sister so we can squee together on our next road trip.

  29. SandyL says:

I would gift this book to both my sister and my mom. They read even more romance than I do.

  30. Veronica says:

I would give a copy of Rogue to my cousin. Years ago, I swiped a Lindsey from her bookshelf and surreptitiously read it. That was my first experience with romance, and I have yet to thank her.

  31. Caryn says:

I’d gift one to my manager, who loves romance!

  32. BetsyDub says:

While my friends are all smart (a preference), and my friends are all bitches (a requirement), sadly none of them are Smart Bitches (except y’all, of course). So I’d have to Hoover up that “Rogue…” all by myself, and spend the WORD $$ on other-genre holiday-gift books for my smart bitches. Thanks!

  33. Jessie says:

I have a couple friends who read historical, so I’d definitely send them some Rogues, but the rest are mine, all mine! Most excited for this book, thanks for the contest!

  34. Kelsey C. says:

My friend B. At work could use a good rogue, it’s been a rough month at the office.

  35. BetsyDub says:

@ Me (#32) re: Hoovering up that “Rogue”… I guess that’s an archaic reference these days, so let me amend that to say that I would Dyson up that “Rogue” (Roomba up that “Rogue”?).

  36. Chipmunk says:

I would treat myself to some brand new, never before read copies of romance books. As a habitual thrift store shopper, that would be the most luxurious thing evarrrr

  37. Dianne McIntyre says:

I would give both, the book and the gift card to my kid brother. He is a rogue to me in so many other ways I know he would appreciate the book and he lives in Queens (the center of the world to him) where a trip to the WORD Brooklyn would be an experience for both him and the WORD’s staff; his eclectic book tastes are a family legend. He is a used bookstore junkie and I am sure he would love to visit the WORD in person. We share books all the time so I will inevitably get my hands on the Rogue.

  38. Lori says:

I would gift copies of Rogues to my momfriend posse, who all need a break around the holidays!

  39. Kim says:

A real rogue? I’d send one to my daughter so she could tame his roguish tendencies! The book? I’d send it to my friend Maruchy who learned English by reading romance novels.

  40. Michaelene says:

Eeeeeek! I cannot wait for this book! I would gift it to myself first and then I always spread the wealth. I’m a librarian so I love giving book recommendations. Love Maclean!
