  • Dragon Fall

    Dragon Fall by Katie MacAlister

Dragon Fall by Katie MacAlister is $1.99! This book was picked by Sarah and Elyse in July’s Hide Your Wallet. It’s also the first book in the Black Dragons series. Some readers took some issue with the heroine, finding her dialogue to be a little juvenile. However, others loved Katie’s usual blend of humor and romance. Have you read this one?

    YOU FLIRT WITH FIRE…

For Aoife Dakar, seeing is believing-and she’s seen some extraordinary things. It’s too bad no one else believes that she witnessed a supernatural murder at an outdoor fair. Returning to the scene for proof, Aoife encounters a wise-cracking demon dog-and a gloriously naked man who can shift into a dragon and kiss like a god. Now thrust into a fantastical world that’s both exhilarating and terrifying, Aoife is about to learn just how hot a dragon’s fire burns.

    WHEN YOU DATE A DRAGON

Kostya has no time for a human woman with endless questions, no matter how gorgeous or tempting she is. He must break the curse that has splintered the dragon clans before more of his kind die. But his powerful attraction to Aoife runs much deeper than the physical-and there may be more to her than even his sharp dragon eyes can see. To survive the coming battle for the fate of his race, he needs a mate of true heart and soul . . .

  • A Little Night Magic

A Little Night Magic by Lucy March

A Little Night Magic by Lucy March is $2.99! Readers describe this as a fluffy read and not your typical paranormal romance with brooding vampires and alpha shifters. The heroine discovers she has some magical abilities, while dealing with the fact that she’s been lusting after the cook at work for years. It has a 3.4-star rating on Goodreads.

Olivia Kiskey needs a change. She’s been working at the same Nodaway Falls, New York, waffle house since she was a teenager; not a lot of upward mobility there. She’s been in love with Tobias, the cook, for the last four years; he’s never made a move. Every Saturday night, she gathers with her three best friends—Peach, Millie, and Stacy—and drinks the same margaritas while listening to the same old stories. Intent on shaking things up, she puts her house on the market, buys a one-way ticket to Europe, and announces her plans to her friends . . .

But then she meets Davina Granville, a strange and mystical Southern woman who shows Olivia that there is more to her life than she ever dreamed. As Liv’s latent magical powers come to the surface, she discovers that having an interesting life is maybe not all it’s cracked up to be. The dark side of someone else’s magic is taking over good people in town, and changing them into vessels of malevolence. Unwilling to cede her home to darkness, she battles the demons of her familial past and her magical present, with those she loves at her side . . . and in the cross fire. Can the most important things in life—friendship, love, magic, and waffles—get her through the worst that the universe can throw at her?

  • Lair of the Lion

Lair of the Lion by Christine Feehan

Lair of the Lion by Christine Feehan is $2.99! This is definitely a Beauty and the Beast-style paranormal romance. Lovers of Feehan’s books know that she’s no stranger to melodrama, which depending on the reader, can either be a pro or a con. However, many readers really enjoyed the heroine. Any Feehan fans out there?

    The Beast . . .

Rumor said the powerful Nicolai DeMarco could command the heavens, that the beasts below did his bidding . . . and that he was doomed to destroy the woman he took as wife. It was whispered he was not wholly human—as untamed as his tawny mane and slashing amber eyes.

    The Beauty . . .

Impoverished aristocrat Isabella Vernaducci would defy death itself to rescue her imprisoned brother. She’d even brave the haunted, accursed lair of the lion—the menacing palace of legendary, lethal Don Nicolai DeMarco.

    The Bargain . . .

Then Isabella met a man whose growl was velvet, purring heat, whose eyes held dark, all-consuming desire. And when the don commanded her to become his bride, she went willingly into his muscled arms, praying she’d save his tortured soul . . . not sacrifice her life.

  • Playing With Fire

Playing With Fire by Cynthia Eden

Playing With Fire by Cynthia Eden is $2.99! I’d describe this as an enemies-to-lovers/mistaken identity paranormal romance. The heroine is the daughter of a man who targeted supernatural creatures and, judging by the description, the hero has no clue of her relation (at least at first). Reviews on Goodreads mentioned that readers loved the chemistry between the two main characters, but a few took issues with how cold the hero was at times. It has a 4-star rating on Goodreads.

    An Old Flame

Cassie Armstrong has plenty to atone for. The daughter of the most immoral researcher ever to pick up a scalpel, she’s determined to use her own brilliance in genetics to repair the damage her family has done to the paranormals. Especially Dante, the first of the phoenixes, the one they call the Immortal. He’s been haunting her dreams since she was a little girl, and she’s been trying to ease his pain for almost as long. If only he remembered any of it. . .

Dante doesn’t know what Cassie’s story is. He almost doesn’t care. The minute he sees her, all he can think is mine. But there’s more to the pretty little doctor than meets the eye. And Dante isn’t the only one to notice. He can’t trust her, but he can’t stay away—and if he wants to learn her secrets, he’s going to have to fight like hell to keep them both alive. . .

I’ll thumbs up “A Little Night Magic”. I read it awhile ago and remember that I enjoyed it quite a bit. And always thumbs up Katie MacAlister’s dragons. They are some of my favorites. She has fun with the whole dragon hoard thing. Lots of “there’s a chicken” moments involving gold.

  2. kd says:

Wow, that is one cringe-worthy blurb for Lair of the Lion.

  3. kitkat9000 says:

@kd: What’s so cringe-worthy about that blurb? It reads like the blurbs to most every other book she’s written. Or is it that this one’s just more so? I honestly can’t tell.

I stopped reading her years ago because it reached a point where all her books became more or less interchangeable to me.

    @Redheadedgirl: isn’t this your catnip?

  4. Chelle says:

    ‘Light my Fire’

  5. Chelle says:

Ok. Let’s try again. ‘Light my Fire’ and ‘Love her Madly’ by Christie Ridgeway are free right now at Amazon in the US. ‘Light my Fire’ was the answer to a HABO in April, I think?
