  • Once Upon a Highland Summer

Once Upon a Highland Summer by Lecia Cornwall

Once Upon a Highland Summer by Lecia Cornwall is 99c at most places! This is the start of the Once Upon a Highland Season series and has a 3.6-star rating on GR. With curses, ghosts, and Scottish Highlanders, this has to set off someone’s catnip alarm. Readers loved the paranormal touch to the story and found it to be a quick, easy read.

A lush Scottish historical romance in the vein of Karen Ranney and Karen Hawkins.

An ancient curse, a pair of meddlesome ghosts, a girl on the run, and a fateful misunderstanding make for the perfect chance at true love.

Lady Caroline Forrester is on the run from her brother’s scheme to marry her off to the highest bidder. An escape to Scotland offers a chance at employment as a governess and freedom from an unhappy marriage—it’s the perfect solution. But Caroline wasn’t prepared for the feelings that her new employer brings out in her.

Alec McNabb, the reluctant Earl of Glenorne, never expected to return home to Scotland. But now that he’s there, he realizes he has obligations that he cannot escape. Alec needs to marry well, and quickly.

When a case of mistaken identity—coupled with the sensual, magical atmosphere of Glenorne Castle—results in a passionate encounter, Caroline and Alec must decide whether their attraction is enough to overcome the problems of their pasts, or whether this one chance at true love was over before it began …

  • An Oath Broken

An Oath Broken by Diana Cosby

An Oath Broken by Diana Cosby is 99c! This is a historical romance that has a road trip theme. The hero is escorting the heroine to her betrothed, which is part of an arranged marriage. Some readers mention having issues with the heroine about halfway through the book, but others loved how the couple get to know each other while traveling. Anyone interested?

Lady Sarra Bellacote would sooner marry a boar than a countryman of the bloodthirsty brutes who killed her parents. And yet, despite—or perhaps because of—her valuable holdings, she is being dragged to Scotland to be wed against her will. To complicate the desperate situation, the knight hired to do the dragging is dark, wild, irresistible. And he, too, is intolerably Scottish.

Giric Armstrong, Earl of Terrick, takes no pleasure in escorting a feisty English lass to her betrothed. But he needs the coin to rebuild his castle, and his tenants need to eat. Yet the trip will not be the simple matter he imagined. For Lady Sarra isn’t the only one determined to see her engagement fail. Men with darker motives want to stop the wedding—even if they must kill the bride in the process.

Now, in close quarters with this beautiful English heiress, Terrick must fight his mounting desire, and somehow keep Sarra alive long enough to lose her forever to another man…

  • Bride of a Scottish Warrior

Bride of a Scottish Warrior by Adrienne Basso

Bride of a Scottish Warrior by Adrienne Basso is $1.99! This is another historical romance with a road trip. The hero wants to marry the heroine, but she’s not interested in being married again. Instead, she decides to join the convent and the hero volunteers to escort her. Readers mention that the romance is fast-paced with some great chemistry. However, some mention that there are some historical inaccuracies, which is often a source of contention for the Bitchery.

    A union born of duty…

Newly knighted Sir Ewan Gilroy needs a dowry and a wife, in that order. Though the widowed Lady Grace plans to enter a convent, squandering so much lush beauty–and such a fortune–would surely be its own sin. Grace will not be easily wooed, despite her family’s urging and Ewan’s famed charm. She challenges him as no woman ever dared, proving his equal in spirit and in passions…

    Forged by desire…

To atone for her past, Grace vows to never remarry–least of all a brash and reckless warrior. Yet whether defending her honor or stoking desires she hardly knew she possessed, Ewan is a man beyond compare. And as their fragile trust is threatened by treachery, Grace must decide whether to reach for the happiness within her grasp–and fight for the love of her bold Highlander..

  • Devil of the Highlands

Devil of the Highlands by Lynsay Sands

Devil of the Highlands by Lynsay Sands is $2.99! For those that love an arrange marriage trope, this might be one for you. Some readers mentions that the heroine was a bit TSTL, while others loved the arranged marriage central to the plot and how the hero and heroine get to know one another post-wedding. It has a 4-star rating on Goodreads. Have you read this one?

They call him the Devil . . .

He is the most notorious laird of Scotland: fierce, cold, deadly . . . and maybe even worse. Yet Evelinde has just agreed to wed him. Anything, she thinks, is better than her cruel stepmother. Though Evelinde should be wary of the rumors, she can’t help but be drawn to this warrior . . . for the Devil of the Highlands inspires a heat within her that is unlike anything she has ever known.

They may call him whatever they wish, but Cullen, Laird of Donnachaidh, cares only for the future of his clan. He must find a wife, a woman to bear him sons and heed his commands. He has no need for beauty or grace, but one taste of his lovely bride’s sweet lips and the sultry feel of her skin arouse an untamed passion. Perhaps there’s more to marriage than he thought . . .

Not Scots and not really a sale, but Jo Goodman’s Compass Club series is finally available in ebook format on Amazon (US) and Kobo. Haven’t checked B&N. I believe they may be couponable on Kobo?

  2. Ren Benton says:

Time to put the computer away for the day. I read that first headline under Bride of a Scottish Warrior as “A unicorn born of duty…”

WHICH I WOULD HAVE BOUGHT IMMEDIATELY

  3. K.N.O'Rear says:

  4. Diana says:

  5. Dorothea says:

Any book about a “Highland summer” has got to be fantasy or paranormal. 😉

  6. LovelloftheWolves says:

@Red Benton – you are not alone – I also read it as “a unicorn born of duty.” I had to re-read it twice. Shame its not a unicorn – I’d be much more willing to buy the book!
