Books On Sale

Last Day of the Harlequin Mega Sale!

As the title suggest, today is the last day to stock up on Harlequin romances! For a full list of imprints included in the sale, take a peek at our previous post, and the Bitchery was also super helpful in providing us with great recommendations. We’ve included some of those suggested authors in today’s post.

Also, there’s another 99p UK deal!

  • Pregnesia

    Pregnesia by Carla Cassidy

Pregnesia by Carla Cassidy is $1.99! For those who are new to the Bitchery, I’d like to turn your attention to a piece of SBTB history. We had a guest review of this book back in 2009 and IT. IS. GOLD:

The heroine of this story is pregnant. And she has amnesia. A pregnant amnesiac. YES. She has taken shelter in a car the hero is repossessing. But don’t worry, the hero is quick to assure the bloody and battered heroine he isn’t a skeezy repo man – he usually only repos expensive crap like planes. And millionaires. He is also quite quick to inform the heroine he is a former Navy SEAL. Because simply saying he was formerly in the military would not be cocky enough.

Former navy SEAL Lucas Washington was an expert at tackling impossible missions. But when a striking–and very pregnant–woman turned up in a car he was repossessing, suddenly he was in over his head. Shaken and bruised, she couldn’t remember what had happened to her or why she was terrified of going to the police. Lucas made it clear he could be trusted, and vowed to protect her until she was safe. Hours turned to days as they searched for clues to her hidden past. Then a family came to claim her, and a happy ending seemed imminent. But had he just delivered his Jane Doe to safety…or into the hands of a killer?

  • My Fair Concubine

My Fair Concubine by Jeannie Lin

RECOMMENDED: My Fair Concubine by Jeannie Lin is $1.99! This is a historical “My Fair Lady” style romance – set in the Tang Dynasty in China. Readers loved the retelling and the depth of characterization. However, some readers mentioned that the story dragged at time due to the lack of external conflict. It has a 3.8-star rating on Goodreads and was part of the 2013 DABWAHA Tournament. And if you want to stock up on more Lin titles, now’s your chance!

THE NOBLEMAN WHO TURNED A TEA GIRL INTO A PRINCESS…

Yan Ling tries hard to be servile-it’s what’s expected of a girl of her class. Being intelligent and strong-minded, she finds it a constant battle.

Proud Fei Long is unimpressed by her spirit-until he realizes she’s the answer to his problems. He has to deliver the emperor a “princess.” In two months can he train a tea girl to pass as a noblewoman?

Yet it’s hard to teach good etiquette when all Fei Long wants to do is break it, by taking this tea girl for his own…

  • The Admiral’s Penniless Bride

The Admiral’s Penniless Bride by Carla Kelly

The Admiral’s Penniless Bride by Carla Kelly is $1.99 right now – along with many other Carla Kelly books. Kelly’s books are a unique kind of historical, and they’re wonderfully immersive. SLURP into the book you go. Some readers on GR really liked the older hero/younger heroine pairing, and the consideration of the hero in particular. If you like old-style Regency, you might like this, or one of Kelly’s other books. There are MANY. Like the number of exclamation points in a relatively short cover blurb.

Sally Paul is down to her last penny. As she spends it on a cup of tea—to stave off being at the mercy of the workhouse—the last thing she expects is an offer of marriage…from a complete stranger!

Admiral Sir Charles Bright’s seafaring days are over—and according to society, that must mean he’s in need of a wife! Discovering Sally’s in need of a home, he offers a solution…. They marry in haste—but will they enjoy their wedding night at leisure?

  • Zane

    Zane by Brenda Jackson

Zane by Brenda Jackson is $1.99! This is book 25 in the Westmorelands series and it has a 4.2-star average on GoodReads, too. I’m also sending out the catnip alarm for readers who love second chance romances! Readers who enjoyed it liked the typical Westmoreland alpha hero, but really liked the heroine, Channing, who puts up with exactly none of his crap. Jackson has so many great books and a lot of them are on sale for $1.99!

No woman walks away from Zane Westmoreland…until Channing Hastings, who does just that, and it leaves the rancher reeling. Then nearly two years later she returns to town engaged! Now Zane will do whatever it takes to show her that he is the only man for her.

  1. Julia says:

I still haven’t bought anything from this sale because I feel like once I start clicking, I’ll never stop!! But it’s the last day. Time for the spreadsheet, and the dollar limit.

  2. Susan says:

I probably would have bought more Harlequin books, especially some of the historicals, but the sale was just too big. I found myself overwhelmed by the selection and backed away. I wish they’d split it up by individual category over a longer period of time. Still, I picked up some good stuff.

  3. Maite says:

I think it was a link to that Pregnesia review that first got me into this place. All I could remember for months was “there was this very funny site which had a lot of fuchsia”.
Should buy the book just for that.

  4. Mara says:

It’s been fun seeing everyone’s recommendations… It’s a good reminder that some authors/books that I absolutely can’t stand have passionate fans and some authors/books that I adore have haters. There is a book for every taste and the world is richer for it.

I agree with Susan that it was overwhelming, but the whole thing validated my current practice of sticking any books I’m interested in on an Amazon Wish List– I just sorted by price and bought anything that was $1.99 or less. I tried to ignore everything else and overcome my sale FOMO
