  • The Liar

    The Liar by Nora Roberts

RECOMMENDED: The Liar by Nora Roberts is an Audible Daily Deal for $5.95! Elyse punched her Nora Roberts v-card with this book and gave it an A-:

The thing I loved about The Liar was that it’s the perfect blend of suspense and romance for me. The mystery was there but enhanced rather than overshadowed the romance. Also the suspense hinged more on OMG WTF just happened versus OMG entrails on the kitchen floor (Mr. Clean isn’t taking care of that, you know).

Shelby Foxworth lost her husband. Then she lost her illusions…

The man who took her from Tennessee to an exclusive Philadelphia suburb left her in crippling debt. He was an adulterer and a liar, and when Shelby tracks down his safe-deposit box, she finds multiple IDs. The man she loved wasn’t just dead. He never really existed.

Shelby takes her three-year-old daughter and heads south to seek comfort in her hometown, where she meets someone new: Griff Lott, a successful contractor. But her husband had secrets she has yet to discover. Even in this small town, surrounded by loved ones, danger is closer than she knows—and threatens Griff, as well. And an attempted murder is only the beginning…

  • Desire

    Desire by Amanda Quick

Desire by Amanda Quick is $1.99! This is a historical romance with a heroine who hopes to marry a poet, but gets a hardened knight instead. Awkward. Readers seem divided on the couple though; many loved the hero, but found the heroine to be a little difficult. It has a 3.9-star rating on Goodreads. Have you read this one?

From the windswept, craggy coast of a remote British Isle comes the thrilling tale of a daring lady and a dangerous knight… bound by the tempests of fate—and the dawning of… Desire

Upon her father’s death, beautiful, headstrong Lady Clarre knew that she must wed, for the protection of the Isle of Desire new fell to her. Yet when her guardian’s choice of prospective husband rode through her castle gates, she felt utterly betrayed. All sinewy muscle and savage steel, Sir Gareth of Wyckmere was not the poet she’d requested but a fearsome knight whose only interest was in war.

Legions of robbers had fallen beneath the Hellhound of Wyckmere’s sword, and now this bold warrior was certain that he could tame one willful wife. Yet even Gareth could not deter Lady Clare from trying to mold him into her ideal… until their clash of wills ignited a passion that set them both aflame… and a treacherous plot put their lives in deadly peril.

  • Games of Command

Games of Command by Linnea Sinclair

RECOMMENDED: Games of Command by Linnea Sinclair is 99c! This is a scifi romance and I really loved this one. It has all sorts of good catnip for me! The hero has always had a crush on the heroine, though now they have an antagonistic relationship. Plus a scarred hero who is more cybernetic parts than man. Like many readers on Goodreads, I felt the book went a little long; it’s 500+ pages. It also has a 4-star rating on Goodreads.

The universe isn’t what it used to be. With the new Alliance between the Triad and the United Coalition, Captain Tasha “Sass” Sebastian finds herself serving under her former nemesis, biocybe Admiral Branden Kel-Paten–and doing her best to hide a deadly past. But when an injured mercenary winds up in their ship’s sick bay–and in the hands of her best friend, Dr. Eden Fynn–Sass’s efforts may be wasted.

Wanted rebel Jace Serafino has information that could expose all of Sass’s secrets, tear the fragile Alliance apart–and end Sass’s career if Kel-Paten discovers them. But the biocybe has something to hide as well, something once thought impossible for his kind to possess: feelings . . . for Sass. Soon it’s clear that their prisoner could bring down everything they once believed was worth dying for–and everything they now have to live for.

  • Risky Game

    Risky Game by Tracy Solheim

Risky Game by Tracy Solheim is $1.99! If you can’t tell by the cover and those abs, this is a sports contemporary romance. It also has a brainy heroine who (if I’m not mistaken from reading the description) blackmails the hero to help put her through her PhD program. The hero has some illness that he’s hiding and she discovers it. Clearly, I’ll be buying this one today. Readers loved how the heroine was getting one over on the hero for a change. However, some readers felt it was a bit slow.

In the next sizzling sports romance from the author of Foolish Games, Brody is at the top of his game… until Shannon changes the rules.

Baltimore Blaze tight end Brody Janik is a natural-born football star. At twenty-seven, his record-breaking athletic performance and his cover-boy good looks have turned him into a household name. But Brody’s hiding a major secret behind his charming public persona: a health condition that may cut his career short.

PhD candidate Shannon “Shay” Everett works multiple jobs to put herself through school—including an unpaid internship with the Blaze training department. Strapped for cash, Shay answers the call of an NFL gossip blogger to uncover personal details about the Blaze players. Sneaking into the locker room one night, she gets entangled in Brody’s secret…and swept up by his charm.

Brody isn’t sure what to make of the gawky girl with the whiskey eyes, especially when he discovers she was snooping. His first instinct is to turn her in as a snitch, but she could destroy him by sharing his secret. Instead, he decides to keep her close…perhaps closer than either of them originally intended…

  • Devil Without a Cause

Devil Without a Cause by Terri Garey

Devil Without a Cause by Terri Garey is $2.99! The description of this book makes me so happy because c’mon, a dude sells soul for rock and roll stardom. Several of Garey’s books in this series and her other series are also on sale! Despite the description, some readers found this to be on the boring side, while others enjoyed the plot and how it deviated from the standard vampire/shifters fare of paranormals.

Idle hands are the devil’s workshop.

Temptation and seduction are the tricks of the Devil’s trade, and when offered the chance to regain his wings by playing guardian angel, he’s hell-bent on doing things his way…

Faith McFarland is in need of a miracle. So desperate to save her sick child, she’s willing to make a deal with the Devil: steal a ring worn by Finn Payne, the bad-boy rockstar who long ago sold his soul for rock ‘n roll. Temptation and seduction become necessary evils, yet Faith’s salvation means Finn’s damnation…because the ring is all that stands between him and Hell. Falling in love was never part of the bargain, but now that they’ve tasted heaven in each other’s arms, can they convince the Devil to give up his due?

  1. Kati says:

I just recently listened to The Liar on audio. It is one of my favorite audiobooks. The narrator really nailed the accents and caught me up in the story completely. I’d also highly recommend it!

  2. I agree with Kati on the narration of The Liar. It’s great!

  3. egged says:

Lately I’ve been in a horrible reading rut, unable to finish anything. I DEVOURED Games of Command in less than a day. It’s not a perfect book; there’s a lot going on, some things are mentioned in passing that made me go “wait, what?”, and the ending felt a bit rushed. But it was like finding a new drug – who knew I had such a thing for stoic cybernetic lovelorn heroes? Now I’m on the hunt for more SFR like this but it seems like SFR is not a huge genre?

  4. @Amanda says:

@egged: I know exactly what you mean! I’m constantly on the search for some cool scifi romance. If you don’t mind erotica/menage romances, Lauren Dane’s Federation Chronicles series is pretty good! There’s also this Rec League post that may help you find some new authors/books!

  5. Malin says:

Since I’m currently concussed, and on doctor’s orders to stay away from TV, my phone, books and the computer (that’s not always easy – I’ll go crazy if I can’t check my websites at least twice a day), audiobooks are the only thing keeping me sane. I’ve listened to five books so far, plus three Doctor Who Big Finish audios, and I’ve knitted a whole scarf. A highly recommended Nora Roberts audiobook on special offer comes like a gift from heaven. Now I have something new to enjoy.

  6. Virginia says:

    @Amanda and @egged,

    Check out http://www.thegalaxyexpress.net

It’s a site devoted to SciFi Romance and has one page listing SFR authors by decade and another page with links to SciFi Romance sites. When I discovered it a couple of
days ago, I lost a whole afternoon exploring.

  7. Sheila says:

I read the Liar this past summer (borrowed it from the library), and I found it to be a snorefest. so if you’re iffy about the book def borrow it.

  8. Claire says:

Is Games of Command part of a series? Is there anything else I need to read first, in order to understand this one?

  9. @Amanda says:

@Claire: If I recall, you should be fine! Sinclair does have a scifi series, but I don’t think Games of Command is part of it.

  10. Hera says:

I literally couldn’t finish the Liar. I just couldn’t make myself care. And I actually went through a similar, though much less dramatic story, of having a child with someone who disappeared and turned out to be unbelievably dishonest, and I still didn’t care about Shelby. I was annoyed by how easily and quickly she put her life back together, but mostly I just found the book really forgettable.

  11. Helen R-S says:

I’m another one who didn’t particularly enjoy The Liar. I didn’t hate it, but I was glad I’d borrowed it and not bought it.
