The Royal We
RECOMMENDED: The Royal We by Heather Cocks and Jessica Morgan is currently $3.99 at Amazon! We’ll keep our eyes peeled for any price-matching. Elyse and Redheadedgirl did a joint review of this book and they gave it an A:
RHG: So I’m giving this an A, because it was delightful and I adore the Fug Girls’ version of Harry and Kate and Wills that they’ve created in their heads (“He’s basically Great Britain’s answer to a red squirrel anyway”) and I like how they used that in writing this book. It also passed the “Did I stay up until 3 am to finish this? YES I DID” test. How about you?
Elyse: Totally an A. It wasn’t as heavy in the romance as I wanted but made up for it by being addictive. I too pulled the 3 a.m. read. Plus it’s really funny and heartfelt.
In their first adult novel, authors Heather Cocks and Jessica Morgan take on a story of romance and rivalries inspired by today’s most talked-about royal couple: Will and Kate.
“If I’m Cinderella today, I dread who they’ll think I am tomorrow. I guess it depends on what I do next.”
American Rebecca Porter was never one for fairy-tales. Her twin sister Lacey was always the romantic, the one who daydreamed of being a princess. But it’s adventure-seeking Bex who goes to Oxford and meets dreamy Nick across the hall – and thus Bex who accidentally finds herself in love with the eventual heir to the British throne. Nick is everything she could have imagined, but Prince Nicholas has unimaginable baggage: grasping friends, a thorny family, hysterical tabloids tracking his every move, and a public that expected its future king to marry a native. On the eve of the most talked-about wedding of the century, Bex reflects on what she’s sacrificed for love — and exactly whose heart she may yet have to break.

Still the One
Still the One by Jill Shalvis is $1.99! This is a contemporary romance with a soldier hero and a fake relationship. It’s also book #6 in the Animal Magnetism series. Readers loved getting to know the standoffish heroine, though some felt the book was too similar to the rest of the series. Have you read this one?
Darcy Stone is game for anything — except sexy Navy veteran and physical therapist A.J. Colten, the guy who’d rejected her when she’d needed him most. Now the shoe is on the other foot and he needs her to play nice and help him secure grants for his patients. Unfortunately, Darcy can’t refuse. She needs the money to fund her passion project: rescuing S&R dogs and placing them with emotionally wounded soldiers.
A.J. admits it — Darcy is irresistible. But he’s already been battle-scarred by a strong-willed, vivacious, adventurous woman like Darcy, and he’s not making the same mistake twice—until he and Darcy are forced to fake a relationship. Growing closer than they’d ever imagined possible, Darcy and AJ have to ask themselves: how much between them is pretend? What’s the real thing? And where does it go from here?

The Trouble with Love
The Trouble with Love by Lauren Layne is 99c at All Romance, and $2.99 elsewhere. This is the fourth book in her Stiletto series and features a Southern belle heroine turned Manhattan “ice queen.” The heroine is also the hero’s former fiancee. What’s that sound? Do I hear the catnip alarm? A lot of Layne’s books are $2.99 or less, especially the previous books in the series. In fact, all four books can be snatched up for less than $12.
As Lauren Layne’s salacious Sex, Love & Stiletto series returns, a jaded columnist discovers a steamy way to get over an old flame: falling for him all over again.
As Stiletto magazine’s authority on all things breakup-and-heartache, Emma Sinclair writes from personal experience. Five years ago, Emma was Charlotte, North Carolina’s darling debutante and a blushing bride-to-be. Now she’s the ice queen of the Manhattan dating scene. Emma left her sultry Southern drawl behind, but not even her closest friends know that with it she left her heart. Now Emma’s latest article forces her to face her demons—namely, the devilishly sexy guy who ditched her at the altar.
After giving up everything for a pro-soccer career, Alex Cassidy watches his dreams crumble as a knee injury sidelines him for good. Now he’s hanging up his cleats and giving journalism a shot. It’s just a coincidence that he happens to pick a job in the same field, and the same city, as his former fiancée . . . right? But when Emma moves in next door, it’s no accident. It’s research. And Alex can’t help wondering what might have been. Unlike the innocent girl he remembers, this Emma is chic, sophisticated, and assertive—and she wants absolutely nothing to do with him. The trouble is, Alex has never wanted her more.

This contemporary romance features a cowboy hero and a city slicker heroine, plus a plot that revolves around a makeover reality TV show taking place in a small town. And, if you’ve already read this one or are looking to binge on more of Terry’s books, it looks like numbers two and four in the Sweet, Texas series are also on sale at Amazon.

THE ROYAL WE was outstanding, so funny and believable.
I love the Lauren Layne series! I’ve read the first two books.
I read the sample of THE ROYAL WE…and grabbed it. Because my TBR obviously isn’t causing me enough performance(?) anxiety…
I read ‘The Royal We’ prepared to pounce on any errors made about Oxford, but it was actually quite lovely and made me a bit homesick for the days of my misspent youth spent reeling about various Oxford pubs and cellars. (Still not sure why the heir to the throne would go to Pembroke – notoriously rather broke – rather than one of the grander, richer colleges, but OK!)
I did wish there’d been more in it about clothes, though. Nude pumps! Jenny Packham! Issa!
I loved the royal we and I love the fug girls. In fact I need to thank you for introducing me to the go fug yourself yourself blog. You linked to it and I fell in love!
