A Kiss at Midnight

A Kiss at Midnight by Eloisa James is $1.99! This is the first book in the Fairy Tale series, and it has a 3.8-star average. Much Ado About You is also on sale for $3.99, plus some of James’s novellas and short stories are $2.99 or less!
This book was nominated for a RITA in 2011, and our RITA Reader Challenge reviewer, Jayne, gave it an A-, saying, “I thought this was wonderful. If you’re looking for historical accuracy and nail-biting tension, look elsewhere. If you’re looking for froth, sparkles, castles, ballgowns, elaborate wigs, and glass slippers (oh, and the glass slippers are SO wonderful), this is perfect. I savored every page. By the time Gabriel and Kate ride off into the sunset, I believed that they loved and deserved each other and all that was left was a contented sigh from me.”
Miss Kate Daltry doesn’t believe in fairy tales . . . or happily ever after.
Forced by her stepmother to attend a ball, Kate meets a prince . . . and decides he’s anything but charming. A clash of wits and wills ensues, but they both know their irresistible attraction will lead nowhere. For Gabriel is promised to another woman—a princess whose hand in marriage will fulfill his ruthless ambitions.
Gabriel likes his fiancée, which is a welcome turn of events, but he doesn’t love her. Obviously, he should be wooing his bride-to-be, not the witty, impoverished beauty who refuses to fawn over him.
Godmothers and glass slippers notwithstanding, this is one fairy tale in which destiny conspires to destroy any chance that Kate and Gabriel might have a happily ever after.
Unless a prince throws away everything that makes him noble . . .
Unless a dowry of an unruly heart trumps a fortune . . .
Unless one kiss at the stroke of midnight changes everything.

I Adored a Lord by Katharine Ashe is $1.99! This is the second book in the Prince Catchers series, and good god, that dress. I need one in my size immediately. The hero and heroine are snowbound in a castle together with a Clue-esque mystery, and readers seemed to really like it. However, some felt that too many elements muddied the story. Other sales include the first book in the series, I Married the Duke is also on sale, plus a holiday novella and the first book in Ashe’s Falcon Club series.
Three very different sisters beguile society with their beauty and charm, but only one of them must fulfill a prophecy: marry a prince. Who is the mystery Prince Charming, and which sister will be his bride?
All that clever, passionate Ravenna Caulfield wants is to stay far away from high society’s mean girls.
All that handsome, heroic Lord Vitor Courtenay wants is to dash from dangerous adventure to adventure.
Now, snowbound in a castle with a bevy of the ton‘s scheming maidens all competing for a prince’s hand in marriage, Ravenna’s worst nightmare has come true.
Now, playing babysitter to his spoiled prince of a half-brother and potential brides, Vitor is champing at the bit to be gone.
When a stolen kiss in a stable leads to a corpse in a suit of armor, a canine kidnapping, and any number of scandalous liaisons, Ravenna and Vitor find themselves wrapped in a mystery they’re perfectly paired to solve. But as for the mysteries of love and sex, Vitor’s not about to let Ravenna escape until he’s gotten what he desires . . .

Redemption of the Duke by Gayle Callen is $1.99! The heroine is the sister of the hero’s friend, a friend whose death the hero feels responsible for. Readers mentioned that they weren’t too satisfied with the conflict’s resolution, while others loved the hero’s story of finding redemption. Holy backlist, Batman! If you like Callen’s writing, around ten or so books are on sale between $1.99-$3.99.
A duke who needs to be tamed . . . a lady who refuses to be rescued.
Adam Chamberlin was the third son of a duke, known for gambling binges and drunken nights. No one expected anything of him . . . until tragedy strikes. Now Adam is the new Duke of Rothford, determined to right the wrongs he’s done. Except a secret in his past means helping the one woman who doesn’t want his help at all . . .
It’s not every day that a duke introduces himself to a woman sitting by herself in Hyde Park. Faith Cooper is even more surprised when Adam offers her a position as a lady’s companion to his elderly aunt. Faith refuses to be beholden to a man again—certainly not this man, who both infuriates and attracts her. But with passion simmering between them, will Faith surrender to forbidden desire?

When the Marquess Met His Match by Laura Lee Guhrke is $1.99! This is the first book in the An American Heiress in London series, which features – you guessed it – an American heiress in London. A few reviews on Goodreads mentioned that the chemistry between the characters didn’t seem believable, while others loved the vulnerability of the hero and heroine. You can snag a few other of Guhrke’s books on sale for $1.99-$3.99! Unfortunately, my favorite book of hers – Guilty Pleasures ( A | BN | K | G | AB ) – is $5.99, but if you’re willing to spend a few extra bucks, it’s worth it.
What happens when a carefree, disreputable, stone-broke bachelor is forced to find a wife in a hurry? He hires a matchmaker, of course. What happens when the matchmaker doesn’t want to help him? Well, that’s when the fun begins…
Nicholas Stirling, Marquess of Trubridge, loves his life just as it is: dissolute, scandalous, and deuced good fun. His father, the Duke of Landsdowne is not amused, and when he cuts off Nicholas’ trust fund, the fun-loving marquess is forced to find an alternate source of income—in other words, he has to marry an heiress.
Every new-money American heiress knows Lady Belinda Featherstone is the key to social acceptance. Once a new-money nobody herself, Belinda discovered first-hand how heartbreaking the game of love and matrimony could be after a reprobate British earl married her for her money. Now a respectable widow, Belinda has become England’s most successful matchmaker, guiding young American heiresses through the hazards of the London season and helping them to find husbands worthy of them. To her mind, the Marquess of Trubridge is nothing but a fortune-hunting scoundrel and she has no intention of allowing him to charm his way into any American girl’s heart, including her own.

Great to hear about the new books, but these advertised deals seem to never actually appear at Kobo? They all show as the regular price (usually $9.99).
@Nikki: ARGH. I think it’s geographic restrictions on your end, if you’re outside the US. Hate that. I’m sorry.
We’ve had cooler nights here this week, which makes me feel fall is on the way. There’s something about fall that makes me want to snuggle up with a cup of tea (with a lid, because my cats) and binge read a stack of historical romances. Is it just me, or do the rest of you have a season that makes you feel that way?
@Heather S, I know what you mean. January does it for me, when the holidays are over and I can catch up on my reading, and it’s usually really cold so a blanket and a book are about right.
@Heather S: I’m all about historical romances at the height of summer or the dead of winter. When fall hits, I want to curl up with my coffee with a lid (because one anarchist cat) and a pile of gothic romances and mysteries!
Henry the Godmother in A Kiss At Midnight is one of my absolute favorite secondary characters EVER.
