The Chocolate Kiss and Recommended Contemporaries on Sale

  • The Chocolate Kiss

The Chocolate Kiss by Laura Florand

RECOMMENDED: The Chocolate Kiss by Laura Florand is $2.51 at Amazon and $2.99 right now at other vendors. I love this book. It’s a contemporary romance set in Paris, and it’s the second in a series though I didn’t read the first and was just fine here. This book was a Sizzling Book Club pick, and it was part of NPR’s 100 Recommended Romances, (which I helped select). I really enjoyed this story for a bunch of reasons, and $2.99 is a terrific price.

    The Heart of Paris

Welcome to La Maison des Sorcières. Where the window display is an enchanted forest of sweets, a collection of conical hats delights the eye and the habitués nibble chocolate witches from fanciful mismatched china. While in their tiny blue kitchen, Magalie Chaudron and her two aunts stir wishes into bubbling pots of heavenly chocolat chau.

But no amount of wishing will rid them of interloper Philippe Lyonnais, who has the gall to open one of his world famous pastry shops right down the street. Philippe’s creations seem to hold a magic of their own, drawing crowds of beautiful women to their little isle amidst the Seine, and tempting even Magalie to venture out of her ivory tower and take a chance, a taste. . .a kiss.

Parisian princesses, chocolate witches, pâtissier princes and sweet wishes–an enchanting tale of amour et chocolat.

  • Evening Storm

    Evening Storm by Anne Calhoun

Evening Storm by Anne Calhoun is $2.99 for pre-order right now. This is contemporary erotic romance and will release on August 18th. The hero is a whistleblower working at a corrupt bank, and the heroine designs very high-end lingerie. This book has a 3.8-star average on GoodReads, with several readers saying that the slow build of heat and attraction is superb, though a few warn that the hero’s past exploits with other women are part of the story, so heads up if that’s not your thing.

The national bestselling author of The List continues her sinfully addictive Irresistible series…

When it comes to the wolves of Wall Street, Ryan Hamilton is the leader of the pack. But his bravado is all bluff. The bank he works for is up to it’s assets in fraud and shady deals. And thanks to pressure from the NYPD and FBI, Ryan is working as both a trader and a whistleblower. His only respite from the tension is when he parades his latest arm candy at a fancy lingerie shop.

Simone Demarchelier owns Irresistible, crafting custom high-end lingerie. So she’s more than happy that Ryan is spending a fortune on his women. But she senses that behind the hotshot facade there is something more. Something tortured and sad. And when he flies her out to the Hamptons in the shadow of a summer thunderstorm in order to fix one of her designs, she instead finds herself stuck in the opulent home with a distraught Ryan.

Is Simone the one person who can mend Ryan’s heart and soul?

  • As Sure as the Sun

As Sure as the Sun by Anna McPartlin

As Sure as the Sun by Anna McPartlin is $1.99. McPartlin is an Irish author, and this book and the next came recommended by Shanna, who emailed me about the sale. She says, “Anna McPartlin [is] one of my favorite Irish authors. While not traditional romances, they do have romantic elements and usually a happy for now ending.” This book has a 3.65-star average on GoodReads.

SOMETIMES LOVE TAKES A SECOND GLANCE…

When bride-to-be Harri Ryan ends up at the ER with a panic attack on her wedding day, her twin brother, George, jokes that she’s the most glamorous patient there. But this is no joke. It’s Harri’s second try at the wedding, and when she returns to her Dublin apartment, her fiancé, James, has already packed his belongings. Harri doesn’t want to lose him, but she doesn’t know how to convince James it won’t happen a third time.

George, who knows Harri better than anyone, has a hunch there’s more to the story than cold feet. He confronts their parents, who are acting strangely — as if they’re hiding a secret. And the truth they reluctantly reveal devastates both twins. Now, not only has Harri lost James, but George’s relationship with his partner, Aidan, begins to fall apart, and both twins have to fight to hold on to those they love — and to themselves. As the world they thought they knew crumbles around them, can Harri and George find a way to pick up the pieces before it’s too late?

In her newest novel, talented young Irish writer Anna McPartlin paints a rich, multi-textured picture of ordinary people swept up in a scandal they never could have imagined. As Sure as the Sun manages to tickle your funny bone, tug at your heartstrings, and remind you never to give up on love.

  • Apart from the Crowd

Apart from the Crowd by Anna McPartlin

Apart From the Crowd by Anna McPartlin is $1.99. This book was also recommended by Shanna, who likes McPartlin’s writing a great deal. This book has a 3.7-star average, and readers warn that while it does offer an immersive experience in experiencing life in a small Irish village, the subject matter can be weighty, with references to rape, alcoholism, abuse, and addiction, so be ye warned.

In a little Irish town like Kenmare, there’s no need to worry whether people will discover your secrets. They already have.

For Mary, that means being remembered for her tragic losses, even if she’d rather get on with her life. For her cousin Ivan, as close as a brother, the gossip is all about how his wife took the kids and ran off with her new lover. For Mary’s friend Penny, it’s an old romance that didn’t work out quite right, and a current affair with a bottle of vodka.

Then Sam Sullivan rents the cottage next door to Mary, and within hours the whole town is talking about the film-star-handsome American. When Sam hurts his back while helping his new neighbor and spends the next week confined to a mattress on her floor, gossip runs rampant. But neither Kenmare nor Mary know about the secrets Sam is so successfully hiding….

For Mary’s circle of friends, Sam’s arrival marks more than one change. And Mary whose unlucky history has kept her apart from the crowd much of her life has finally found a man with whom she feels she might truly connect. But so long as both are captive to memories they dare not reveal, the past is a barrier that will keep them forever alone.

In this powerful novel, Anna McPartlin perfectly captures the drama, the emotion, and the laughter of a small Irish community, for those who fit in and those who don’t. Apart from the Crowd mixes wit and insight to create an engrossing tale that will keep you reading to the very last page.

I don’t know for how long, but right now, Amazon has the entire 7 book Outlander bundle for $1.99. Tremendous deal for those who enjoy Outlander. Not me, alas, but I thought I’d pass it on. Thousands of pages for under $2 . . .

  3. Kate says:

I just got the email about the 7 book bundle and grabbed it immediately! And for anybody worried about navigation, you can navigate to separate books and then to The Parts within those books, but not to the chapters within those parts. I’d assume there isn’t three-tiered TOC navigation in Kindle books…

I love the Amour et Chocolat series from Laura Florland. There should be a whole podcast episode to discuss the series and the characters and all the desserts!

  5. Sandra says:

Has anyone else had problems opening the NPR top 100 list? I have tried multiple times on both my iPad and laptop with no success.

  6. Lina says:

    @Sandra,

I had problems accessing the NPR list from my iPad and my iPhone. I ended up reading it on my son’s Kindle fire. It’s worth checking out but was a total pain to view.

  7. Lora says:

Tawna Fenske’s About That Fling is on Kindle First for 4.99. I already snapped it up…it’s the WHOLE REASON i signed up for KF. I love me some romantic comedy and hers are always a hoot with a side of sexy leading man.

  8. I was excited to download the NPR Top Romances list you helped curate, and even more revved when I saw that Sherry Thomas contributed to it. I was looking for a killer book list just this summer and was surprised at how hard it was to find one that resonated. All my favorites are here (Gabaldon, Quinn, Burrowes, Spencer, Balogh, etc.) so I’m confident I’ll enjoy the names that are new to me or that I just haven’t gotten to yet.

  9. Frida says:

Yay, I – finally – got Love Lessons! Thanks!

I just read The Chocolate Kiss and it was fantastic. I read the Chocolate Rose a while ago and wasn’t particularly impressed, but The Chocolate Kiss just had this perfect mood to it. It includes a recipe for hot chocolate made with milk infused with vanilla, nutmeg, and cinnamon, and halfway through the book I realized that I felt infused with chocolate and happiness and awesomeness. Then I ate some chocolate (I defy anyone to read this book and not eat some chocolate) and I felt even more infused.

Hera, what a lovely and perfect way of describing the experiene of reading “The Chocolate Kiss”. That’s how I felt, too 🙂 This book was one of my romance highs of the first half of 2015.
