Nora Roberts and Jude Deveraux On Sale

  • High Noon

    High Noon by Nora Roberts

High Noon by Nora Roberts is $2.99 right now. This is suspense Nora (as opposed to contemporary Nora or paraNora), and it has a 3.9-star average. Readers who liked it really liked the suspense and the very tough, very smart heroine (who is assaulted so trigger warning, k?) who reminded some of Eve Dallas. If you like suspense or know someone who does, this may make their reading week better.

Police Lieutenant Phoebe MacNamara found her calling at an early age when an unstable man broke into her family’s home, trapping and terrorizing them for hours. Now she’s Savannah’s top hostage negotiator, defusing powderkeg situations with a talent for knowing when to give in-and when to jump in and take action. It’s satisfying work-and sometimes those skills come in handy at home dealing with her agoraphobic mother, still traumatized by the break-in after all these years, and her precocious seven-year-old, Carly.

It’s exactly that heady combination of steely courage and sensitivity that first attracts Duncan Swift to Phoebe. After observing her coax one of his employees down from a roof ledge, he is committed to keeping this intriguing, take-charge woman in his life. She’s used to working solo, but Phoebe’s discovering that no amount of negotiation can keep Duncan at arm’s length.

And when she’s grabbed by a man who throws a hood over her head and brutally assaults her-in her own precinct house-Phoebe can’t help but be deeply shaken. Then threatening messages show up on her doorstep, and she’s not just alarmed but frustrated. How do you go face-to-face with an opponent who refuses to look you in the eye?

Now, with Duncan backing her up every step of the way, she must establish contact with the faceless tormentor who is determined to make her a hostage to fear . . . before she becomes the final showdown.

  • The Inn Boonsboro Trilogy Boxed Set

The Inn Boonsboro Trilogy Boxed Set by Nora Roberts

The Inn Boonsboro Trilogy Boxed Set by Nora Roberts is still $4.99 at Amazon. This is a three-book set of contemporary romances set at the Inn Boonsboro (a real inn owned by Nora Roberts) in Boonsboro, MD (a real place).  It’s a mix of contemporary with some paranormal (there’s a ghost) and each book has a 4+ star average. If you know a Nora Roberts fan, this would make a lovely gift – especially since the individual ebook copy of book 3 is the same price. All three for the price of one is always good!

This boxed set features all three books of the Inn Boonsboro Trilogy: The Next Always, The Last Boyfriend, and The Perfect Hope.

  • Whiskey Beach

    Whiskey Beach by Nora Roberts

Whiskey Beach by Nora Roberts is $1.99 at Amazon right now. This is romantic suspense Nora, and it has a 3.8-star average on GoodReads. Readers who liked it said that the broody hero and the very caring and nurturing heroine were among their favorite parts, and that the mystery/suspense elements are very creepy.

It was nominated for a RITA® last year, and for the RRC, reviewer Betty Fokker gave it a B, writing, “This book was, no surprise, good. Eli was a nice hero and suffering real human doubts. The heroine was a Manic Pixie Dreamgirl yoga instructor, but she didn’t suck too badly. In fact, she had the sense to cut Eli some slack in some places because of his emotional recovery from depression and the signs of PTSD. There were historical pirates. There was a cool old house with secret passages. There was a reasonable and cogent solution to all mysteries. There was sex and a cute rescue dog with a name that Eli and Abra disliked, but were stuck with and took with good grace….

There was a lot of good in this book; can you tell?”

For more than three hundred years, Bluff House has sat above Whiskey Beach, guarding its shore – and its secrets.

To summer tourists, it’s the crown jewel of the town’s stunning scenery. To the residents of Whiskey Beach, it’s landmark and legend. To Eli Landon, it’s home…

A Boston lawyer, Eli has weathered an intense year of public scrutiny and police investigation after being accused of murdering his soon-to-be ex-wife. And though there was never enough evidence to have him arrested, his reputation is in tatters as well as his soul. He need sanctuary. He needs Bluff House.

While Eli’s beloved grandmother is in Boston, recuperating from a nasty fall, Abra Walsh has cared for Bluff House, among her other jobs as yoga instructor, jewelry maker, and massage therapist. She is a woman with an open heart and a wide embrace, and no one is safe from her special, some would say over-bearing, brand of nurturing – including Eli.

He begins to count on Abra for far more than her cooking, cleaning, and massage skills, and starts to feel less like a victim – and more like the kind of man who can finally solve the murder of his wife and clear his name. But Bluff House’s many mysteries are a siren song to someone intent on destroying Eli and reaping the rewards. He and Abra will become entangled in a centuries-old net of rumors and half-truths that could pull them under the thunderous waters of Whiskey Beach…

Passion and obsession, humor and heart flow together in a novel about two people opening themselves up to the truth – and to each other.

  • Sweet Liar

    Sweet Liar by Jude Deveraux

Sweet Liar by Jude Deveraux is $1.99 on sale at Amazon right now. There is nothing like a 90’s Deveraux, especially at that price. Sweet Liar is a contemporary/historical/suspense mix.

When this book was last on sale, I bought it. I started reading it and stayed awake until 1:45 in the morning to finish it. Even with the parts that showed the age of the story, and the silly bits that are totally goofy, I adored it. Seriously. If someone blended catnip and crack and made a book, it would be this particular Deveraux backlist title for me.

It was her father’s dying wish that Samantha Elliot search for her grandmother, who’d disappeared from Louisville when she was a baby. So here she was, in big, dirty New York City…her parents were dead, her divorce was final, and she was all alone….

Michael Taggert was Samantha’s landlord, and he was easily the most beautiful man she’d ever seen. He was charming, too — his zest for life was so contagious that in his presence Sam bloomed like a flower after the rain. Yet Mike could only get so far with her — when he tried to get closer, it was like running into a brick wall.

But Mike wouldn’t give up. As they probed her grandmother’s past, he was slowly uncovering the joy and affection Samantha had buried long ago — and leading them closer to the dangerous truth about a bloody spring night in 1928, and a seductive blues singer named Maxie….

  6. Alice in Nova Scotia says:

For we Canadians, Nora Roberts’ “High Noon” is $2.99 at Amazon Canada. :)) However, the Boonsboro Trilogy and Whiskey Beach is not! :(( Maybe someday!

  7. It’s hard to find a common thread that unites these five authors other than the moral ambiguity of their characters, and only the match with Deveraux is particularly strong. Does anyone have any idea why it’s so difficult to link Stuart to the rest of our list of 36 authors?
