Hardwired

Hardwired by Meredith Wild is $1.99. Sarah sat next to Wild at the 2015 RT signing and can attest to the number of readers who stopped at her table to tell her how much they loved the series. This is book 1 of the Hackers series, is BDSM-flavored erotic romance, and it has a 4.1-star average. Also, if you’d like to try before you buy, there are some chapters up on Wattpad! When I read it last night, they only had five chapters, but it looks like they’ve added even more!
Determined to overcome a difficult past, Erica Hathaway learns early on how to make it on her own. Days after her college graduation she finds herself face to face with a panel of investors who will make or break her fledgling startup. The only thing she didn’t prepare for was going weak in the knees over an arrogant and gorgeous investor who’s seemingly determined to derail her presentation.
Billionaire and rumored hacker Blake Landon has already made his fortune in software, and he’s used to getting what he wants with very little resistance. Captivated by Erica’s drive and unassuming beauty, he’s wanted nothing more since she stepped into his boardroom. Determined to win her over, he breaks down her defenses and fights for her trust, even if that means sacrificing a level of control he’s grown accustomed to.
But when Blake uncovers a dark secret from Erica’s past, he threatens not just her trust, but the life she’s fought so hard to create.

The Prince Who Loved Me by Karen Hawkins is $1.99! This is the first book in the Oxenburg Princes historical romance series. The hero, a Russian prince, wants to ruin his grandmother’s engagement scheming, so he runs off to Scotland and finds our “brainy, bookish, and bespectacled” heroine. Yeah…I’m buying this one. Though the jacket copy mentions this is similar to the story of Cinderella, some readers felt that was a bit of a stretch. It has a 3.8-star rating on GoodReads.
A handsome, rakish prince who doesn’t believe in true love meets a stubborn lass who will settle for nothing less…
In a lighthearted retelling of a classic fairy tale, bestselling author Karen Hawkins gives Cinderella a Scottish twist!
Prince Alexsey Romanovin enjoys his carefree life, flirting—and more—with every lovely lady who crosses his path. But when the interfering Grand Duchess Natasha decides it’s time for her grandson to wed, Alexsey finds himself in Scotland, determined to foil her plans. Brainy, bookish, and bespectacled, Bronwyn Murdoch seems the perfect answer—she isn’t at all to the duchess’ taste.
Living at the beck and call of her ambitious stepmother and social butterfly stepsisters, Bronwyn has little time for a handsome flirt—no matter how intoxicating his kisses are. After all, no spoiled, arrogant prince would be seriously interested in a firm-minded female like herself. So . . . wouldn’t it be fun to turn his “game” upside down and prove that an ordinary woman can bring a prince to his knees?

Nobody’s Darling by Teresa Medeiros is 99c! This is a western historical romance set in New Mexico. Many readers felt this book had a little bit of everything – humor, heartache, chemistry. However, some felt that while the story was a nice, cute read, it wasn’t anything out of the ordinary. Have you read this one?
Dear Reader,
I never enjoyed being a wanted man until the day Miss Esmerelda Fine marched into the Tumbleweed Saloon and pointed her derringer straight at my heart. Who would have guessed some duke’s granddaughter–an awfully pretty one at that–would come gunning for the likes of me, a notorious bounty hunter with a taste for whiskey and a fondness for peach pie? Lucky for me, she was a mighty poor shot. Instead of killing me, she hired me to find her runaway brother. Little did she know she was about to make the acquaintance of a flea-bitten basset hound named Sadie, the infamous Darling Gang, and my shotgun-toting kinfolk. And little did I know she was about to lead me on a merry chase that would take us from a bungled bank robbery to the very first Wild West show to tour London, England.
I should have turned down her offer. I should have resisted her charms. But I didn’t.
Because there comes a time in every man’s life when he’s got nothing left to lose…but his heart.
Yours,

The Wee Free Men by Terry Pratchett is $1.99! We like to feature Pratchett’s books when they’re on sale because his backlist is so huge and eventually, we want to piece together an entire Discworld library. This is book thirty (yes, thirty!) in the Discworld series, but it’s the first book in the Tiffany Aching spinoff.
A nightmarish danger threatens from the other side of reality . . .
Armed with only a frying pan and her common sense, young witch-to-be Tiffany Aching must defend her home against the monsters of Fairyland. Luckily she has some very unusual help: the local Nac Mac Feegle—aka the Wee Free Men—a clan of fierce, sheep-stealing, sword-wielding, six-inch-high blue men.
Together they must face headless horsemen, ferocious grimhounds, terrifying dreams come true, and ultimately the sinister Queen of the Elves herself. . . .

Nobody’s Darling is the first book I read by Teresa Medeiros. It was a fun read, lots of humor. It reminded me a bit of the Julie Garwood historicals. I bought several more of her books because I liked this one so well.
My son was not a willing reader, but he absolutely loved The Wee Free Men. Highly recommended!
You can definitely read ‘Wee Free Men’ without having read other Pratchetts. Would especially recommend to adolescent girls, but like most Pratchetts, it works for a range of age levels and maturities. (I read one early Pratchett ‘Equal Rites’ when I was a kid, and various jokes went clean over my head until I re-read it as an adult. Business is like a hurried lover – it comes and goes. OH.)

Oh jfc. Did you know that getting inappropriately propositioned by investors is a massive problem for women working in tech and startups? Girls I know talk about how investors try to leverage their influence into sexual favors and make inappropriate remarks and it’s SO HARD to get funding in the first place if your startup is helmed by women. I’m judging by the back cover copy, but this makes me so sick.
But then, I’m so bothered by the recent spate of contemporary romance novels that have “hacker/tech billionaire” heroes that celebrate the money but ignore the problems like the rampant sexism and racism.
