Neanderthal Seeks Human

Neanderthal Seeks Human by Penny Reid is FREE! Yep, that’s right. F-R-E-E. I know a lot of readers love Reid’s writing, though I find it to be a little too silly for me, I guess. However, it was a nominee in the 2014 DABWAHA Tournment and was recommended in the comments on a Rec League involving genius heroines. Any Reid fans in the Bitchery?
There are three things you need to know about Janie Morris: 1) She is incapable of engaging in a conversation without volunteering TMTI (Too Much Trivial Information), especially when she is unnerved, 2) No one unnerves her more than Quinn Sullivan, and 3) She doesn’t know how to knit.
After losing her boyfriend, apartment, and job in the same day, Janie Morris can’t help wondering what new torment fate has in store. To her utter mortification, Quinn Sullivan- aka Sir McHotpants- witnesses it all then keeps turning up like a pair of shoes you lust after but can’t afford. The last thing she expects is for Quinn- the focus of her slightly, albeit harmless, stalkerish tendencies- to make her an offer she can’t refuse.

The Darker Side of Pleasure by Eden Bradley is 99c! Instead of just being a single book, this is three stories of erotica with BDSM elements. Some readers felt the characters weren’t very dynamic, while many really liked the story involving a married couple trying to add more to their sex life. It has a 3.9-star rating on Goodreads.
In this steamy follow-up to her irresistibly erotic debut novel, Eden Bradley returns with a trio of tales that explore the darker side of pleasure.
Prepare to enter a provocative, scintillating world where three women are about to take ecstasy to the limit—and beyond. In The Bonds of Love a struggling couple will do anything to save their marriage, even if it means experimenting with a little bondage. But once their research moves beyond the bedroom, how will they know if they’ve gone too far?
In The Lair a woman answers an ad for a female submissive, ready to surrender to her body’s deepest yearnings. Finding love is the last thing she anticipates…
And in Love and Discipline a journalist expects her interview with a sensual extremist to be business as usual. Instead she finds herself submitting to the dominant desires of a handsome stranger—and discovering more about herself than she ever dreamed possible.
Sensual and mysterious, this captivating collection is sure to seduce you, page after tantalizing page.…

Golden Surrender by Heather Graham is $1.99! This piece of Old Skool awesomeness was originally published in the late 80s and readers say it goes pretty heavy on the “gold” and “golden” descriptors. This is also a historical romance with vikings rather than dukes, if that happens to be your bag. Can anyone give us a read on what levels of crazysauce we’re looking at here?
TWO BOLD WARRIORS, TWO PROUD LANDS, UNITED BY PASSION—AND REVENGE. . . .
PRINCE OLAF OF NORWAY—Lord of the Wolves, the golden Viking warrior who came in his dragon ship to forge a great kingdom in the Emerald Isle.
PRINCESS ERIN—Daughter of the Irish High King, the ebony-haired beauty who swore bitter vengeance on the legendary Norseman who had brought death and destruction to her beloved homeland.
Yet, in the great Norse and Irish alliance against the invading Danes, it was her own father who gave her in marriage to her most hated enemy. Bewitched by Olaf’s massive strength, seduced by his power, still Erin vowed that neither the wrath of his sword nor the fire of his kiss would sway the allegiance of her proud and passionate heart.

RECOMMENDED: Vivian Apple at the End of the World by Katie Coyle is $2.99! I really liked this book and I’m not much of a YA reader anymore. The plot was refreshing to me – a girl trying to make sense of the world following the supposed “Rapture.” Road trips! Cults! I thought it was tons of fun, but if you’re looking for something emotional and deeply philosophical, the book doesn’t quite deliver on those fronts.
Seventeen-year-old Vivian Apple never believed in the evangelical Church of America, unlike her recently devout parents. But when Vivian returns home the night after the supposed “Rapture,” all that’s left of her parents are two holes in the roof. Suddenly, she doesn’t know who or what to believe. With her best friend Harp and a mysterious ally, Peter, Vivian embarks on a desperate cross-country roadtrip through a paranoid and panic-stricken America to find answers. Because at the end of the world, Vivan Apple isn’t looking for a savior. She’s looking for the truth.

So I read “Prince Olaf” & started singing “do you want to build a snowman?”. As I’m tone deaf, my dog was not amused…..
@Crystal, it’s like a tiny baby unicorn!!
I read the write-up as “This is a historical romance with vikings rather than dudes” and I thought, “But weren’t vikings dudes too? Like, the ultimate dudes?”
I spent 3/4ths of Neanderthal Seeks Human excitedly waiting to see which one of them was a Neanderthal and how it was going to be justified (time travel, cloning, I was so excited!), only to realize that there are actually no Neanderthals. I’m probably the only person who made this mistake, but I’m still bitter.
I think Penny Reid’s Knitting in the City series is terrific (Neanderthal Seeks Human is the first book). I suppose there is an element of what might be called silliness in these books, but the characters are really smart, and pretty real if a bit OTT. Moreover, that silliness is sometimes LOL funny. The relationships among the group of women friends (a knitting circle) — expanding to include the men as they become connected — is a lovely, ongoing theme in the series and really works for me. If you like smart, slightly off-kilter characters, and friendship and character-driven stories, Go For It.
I absolutely adore Penny Reid’s books. Hooked all my friends on them and we all are anxiously awaiting the next one. Seriously funny – like wake my roommate up with uncontrollable laughing. I highly recommend.
@booklovingirl I totally agree. I LOVE Penny Reid soooo much. I second the high recommendation.
