Sizzling Sixteen

Sizzling Sixteen by Janet Evanovich is $2.99. This is the sixteenth (wow!) book in the Stephanie Plum series. Jersey Girl, Stephanie Plum, is up to her usual bounty hunting shenanigans, with the usual cast of characters, though some readers thought the series is too much like the Energizer Bunny – it just keeps going and going and going.
Trenton, New Jersey, bounty hunter Stephanie Plum has inherited a -lucky- bottle from her Uncle Pip. Problem is, Uncle Pip didn-t specify if the bottle brought good luck or bad luck. . . .
BAD LUCK: Vinnie, of Vincent Plum Bail Bonds, has run up a gambling debt of $786,000 with mobster Bobby Sunflower and is being held until the cash can be produced. Nobody else will pay to get Vinnie back, leaving it up to Stephanie, office manager Connie, and file clerk Lula to raise the money if they want to save their jobs.
GOOD LUCK: Being in the business of tracking down people, Stephanie, Lula, and Connie have an advantage in finding Vinnie. If they can rescue him, it will buy them some time to raise the cash.
BAD LUCK: Finding a safe place to hide Vinnie turns out to be harder than raising $786,000. Vinnie’s messing up Mooner-s vibe, running up pay-per-view porn charges in Ranger’s apartment, and making Stephanie question genetics.
GOOD LUCK: Between a bonds office yard sale that has the entire Burg turning out, Mooner’s Hobbit Con charity event, and Uncle Pip’s lucky bottle, they just might raise enough money to save the business, and Vinnie, from ruin.
BAD LUCK: Saving Vincent Plum Bail Bonds means Stephanie can keep being a bounty hunter. In Trenton, this involves hunting down a man wanted for polygamy, a turnpike toilet paper bandit, and a drug dealer with a pet alligator named Mr. Jingles.
GOOD LUCK: The job of bounty hunter comes with perks in the guise of Trenton’s hottest cop, Joe Morelli, and the dark and dangerous security expert, Ranger. With any luck at all, Uncle Pip’s lucky bottle will have Stephanie getting lucky—the only question is . . . with whom?

Someone Else’s Love Story by Joshilyn Jackson is $1.99! Jackson is a tremendously talented writer, and a few of you really enjoyed this book the last time it was on sale. But be warned: judging from some of the reviews, I want to add a trigger warning for assault that doesn’t seem to be hinted at in the cover copy. The book was also talked about in a previous podcast with Sarah and Jane.
At twenty-one, Shandi Pierce is juggling finishing college, raising her delightful three-year-old genius son Natty, and keeping the peace between her eternally warring, long-divorced Catholic mother and Jewish father. She’s got enough complications without getting caught in the middle of a stick-up in a gas station mini-mart and falling in love with a great wall of a man named William Ashe, who willingly steps between the armed robber and her son.
Shandi doesn’t know that her blond god Thor has his own complications. When he looked down the barrel of that gun he believed it was destiny: It’s been one year to the day since a tragic act of physics shattered his universe. But William doesn’t define destiny the way other people do. A brilliant geneticist who believes in science and numbers, destiny to him is about choice.
Now, he and Shandi are about to meet their so-called destinies head on, in a funny, charming, and poignant novel about science and miracles, secrets and truths, faith and forgiveness; about a virgin birth, a sacrifice, and a resurrection; about falling in love, and learning that things aren’t always what they seem—or what we hope they will be. It’s a novel about discovering what we want and ultimately finding what we need.

About a Girl by Lindsey Kelk is $1.99! This is a chick lit book where a girl poses (heh) as her photographer roommate and the insanity that ensues. Readers seem divided on the heroine – some found her whiny, while others felt she was charming and relatable. It has a 4-star rating on Goodreads. Have you read this one?
Tess Brookes has always been a Girl with a Plan. But when the Plan goes belly up, she’s forced to reconsider.
After accidently answering her flatmate Vanessa’s phone, she decides that since being Tess isn’t going so well, she might try being Vanessa. With nothing left to lose, she accepts Vanessa’s photography assignment to Hawaii – she used to be an amateur snapper, how hard can it be? Right?
But Tess is soon in big trouble. And the gorgeous journalist on the shoot with her, who is making it very clear he’d like to get into her pants, is an egotistical monster. Far from home and in someone else’s shoes, Tess must decide whether to fight on through, or ‘fess up and run…

Cries in the Night by Kathy Clark is 99c! As to whether this is more a contemporary romance or a romantic suspense, readers have commented that the suspense is rather light. As you can also tell from the description, the plot does deal with abuse. Some Goodreads reviews mention that this is not an insta-love story and appreciated the growth between the hero and heroine. It’s the second book in the Denver Heroes series and has a 4.1-star rating on GR.
Fans of Nora Roberts and Karen Robards will love this pulse-pounding novel of romantic suspense, as a red-hot firefighter reaches out to save a courageous beauty from the terrors of the night.
As a victim’s advocate for the Denver Police Department, Julie Lawrence is always on call for survivors of abuse, fighting for the justice she never got for herself. It’s a high-risk job that makes a lot of enemies—one of whom seems to be now targeting Julie. But teaming up with firefighter and local hero Rusty Wilson sparks a different kind of danger. As Julie surrenders to intoxicating passion, she finds herself breaking her own rules, caring about Rusty in a way she thought she’d sworn off forever.
When a domestic incident escalates into a deadly hostage crisis, Rusty is willing to risk everything to protect those who really need his help—like Julie, the breath of fresh air who fills his days with purpose and his nights with pleasure. He just hopes he’s not too late to stop a chillingly orchestrated act of payback that puts the woman he loves at the mercy of a madman’s rage.

Rebel Queen by Michelle Moran is on sale at both Amazon and B &N. Not sure if it technically qualifies as romance since I haven’t read it yet, but Moran’s past books have all had historical female subjects with a romantic interest. Either way, I think she’s a great author and I highly recommend her past books!
There’s still Plum books? I stopped after 5 or so. I think, since I had binge read them, I got burnt out. And Morelli and Ranger are still in the series? Please tell me that she’s not still milking the “who will she choose” thing? Please?
@Algae – I just finished the 20th Plum book (the 21st released last month, I think). Yes, it’s still Morelli and Ranger and in general, she still blows up at least one car per book. I like reading them. They’re like cotton candy. Easy, enjoyable, but not filling
@Algae: According to my mother, who still reads the books, yes Evanovich is still milking that worn out cow. I read sixteen but can honestly say that I don’t recall the rest. Being somewhat OCD (have to continue the series thru until it’s complete) it took me years to break up with Evanovich. I began self-weaning after 12. So sick and tired of the “which one will she choose” bs. As far as I’m concerned both of them would be better off with someone else and deserve to be. At this point, I no longer read anything by her.
I won’t even start on LK Hamilton’s descent into monotony. Nor have I continued reading Harris after what she did with that series. My understanding is that she’s still in that world- just focusing on different characters. But evidently she isn’t treating what she’s already written as canonical. So glad I stopped that one, too.
Yes, Someone Else’s Love Story!! Can not recommend it enough.
It is the 21st century, nobody is married. For god’s sake Janet, Steph can have both if she wants!
