Historical Romances with Rustlers, Towel Malfunctions, & More

  • What a Lady Requires

What a Lady Requires by Ashlyn Macnamara

What a Lady Requires by Ashlyn Macnamara is 99c! If this cover looks familiar, it’s because we talked about this impeccably placed towel during the podcast we recorded at RT Booklover’s. The hero is in debt to a wine merchant. To clear said debt, he agrees to marry the merchant’s daughter. As one does. She gets the hero’s social influence and the hero whittles down his debts. While readers loved the dialogue and tension between the characters, some felt the romantic emotion/passion between them to be a little lacking. It has a 4-star rating on Goodreads.

Unlike every other proper young lady, Miss Emma Jennings views marrying well as little more than a means to an end. Such a merger would provide her industrious father with social credibility, and Emma with a chunk of her vast inheritance. Emma’s practical views are shattered, however, when her father ties her to the fabulously handsome ne’er-do-well Rowan Battencliffe, a man she loathes on sight—from the smile that promises all manner of wickedness to the way he ogles her with those striking blue eyes.

Deep in debt, especially to his wine merchant, Rowan figures the sooner he gets his finances in order, the sooner he can go back to doing what he does best: burning through ridiculous sums of cash. Which is why Rowan agrees to marry the merchant’s daughter, a prim and proper woman with delightful curves and an ample dowry. But Emma seems to think it’s her business to reform him! Their marriage is a tinderbox—and it’s just too tempting to resist playing with fire.

  • The Rustler

The Rustler by Linda Lael Miller

The Rustler by Linda Lael Miller is 99c! This is an American historical and the third in the Stone Creek series. The hero is a former outlaw and train robber looking to go from bad boy to good guy. Many loved the “redemption story” plot, though they warned the romance is a little tame on the sex-side. It has a 4.1+ avg on Goodreads.

Where does an outlaw go when he’s ready to turn straight? For Wyatt Yarbro, reformed rustler and train robber, Stone Creek is his place of redemption. And lovely Sarah Tamlin is the perfect angel to help him clean up his act.

But Sarah keeps a dark secret behind her prim and proper facade, even as her heart is lost to charming, sexy Wyatt. When a vengeful enemy prepares to unleash havoc on their peaceful town, Wyatt and Sarah will discover that they can’t hide from the past. To win the fight, they must believe in something they never trusted before–the hope of tomorrow.

  • You Only Love Twice

You Only Love Twice by Elizabeth Thornton

You Only Love Twice by Elizabeth Thornton is 99c! This historical romance has a woman who recently suffered from amnesia, waking up in a convent with no memory. Readers mentioned that there’s a lot of misunderstandings going on between the hero and heroine. However, others loved the murder mystery integral to the book’s plot. Have you read this one?

For three years she’s been a mystery even to herself—a young woman who awoke in a London convent bereft of her memory. But now Jessica Hayword knows her name, her birthplace, and one other thing: By some terrifying twist of fate, she has the power to read another’s thoughts—the thoughts of a man who has killed and will kill again.

Convinced that she must unmask the murderer before it’s too late, Jessica goes home to Hawkshill Manor—and discovers that no one is happy about her return, especially the dangerously handsome earl Lucas Wilde. What kind of girl was she, Jessica wonders, to have earned such scorn? And whose murder is it that continues to haunt her? The deeper Jessica digs, the more scandalous details are revealed. Yet even as the clues point to Lucas as the killer, Jessica can’t keep herself away from his embrace. And now all she can do is pray that the man she’s falling in love with isn’t the man whose deadly voice she hears in her dreams.

Cant speak for many, but I’d pay $2.99 for Susan Grant’s Once a Pirate alone – if I didn’t already have it that is. Love this story of how a female air force pilot ends up back in time rescued by a pirate & his crew. The premise may sound odd but it’s a very good book. Hmmmmmm. It’s been a while since that time I read it. I do believe I’m beginning to hear its siren call.

  2. LML says:

Simultaneous with my first glimpse of the What a Lady Requires cover came the thought that the hero was a plumber. It took another moment for the font and the wallpaper to make its intended impression.

  3. LauraL says:

All three of the covers in Ashlyn Macnamara’s “Eton Boys” show some bee-hind. Thank goodness for Kindle! I enjoyed all three books but What a Lady Craves has a place in my keeper file.
