Owning Violet
Owning Violet by Monica Murphy is 99c! This is the first book in the Fowler Sisters erotic romance series. It was also featured in December’s edition of Hide Your Wallet. I actually bought the book, though it’s in TBR purgatory right now. The heroine is an heiress to a cosmetics company (along with her two sisters) and the hero is a co-worker. So if workplace romances are your catnip, look out. Some readers felt the heroine was a bit of a push over, while others thought this was a great start to a new erotica series. It has a 3.7-star rating on Goodreads.
I’ve moved through life doing what’s expected of me. I’m the middle daughter, the dutiful daughter. The one who braved a vicious attack and survived. The one who devoted herself to her family’s business empire. The one who met an ambitious man and fell in love. We were going to run Fleur Cosmetics together, Zachary and I.
Until he got a promotion and left me in the dust. Maybe it’s for the best, between his disloyalty and his wandering eye. But another man was waiting for me. Wanting me. He too has an overwhelming thirst for success, just like Zachary—perhaps even more so. He’s also ruthless. And mysterious. I know nothing about Ryder McKay beyond that he makes me feel things I’ve never felt before.
One stolen moment, a kiss, a touch . . . and I’m hooked. Ryder’s like a powerful drug, and I’m an addict who doesn’t want to be cured. He tells me his intentions aren’t pure, and I believe him. For once, I don’t care. I’m willing to risk everything just to be with him. Including my heart. My soul.
My everything.

Picture This
Picture This by Jayne Denker is 99c! Set in a small town in the Catskills, this is a contemporary romance between a photographer’s assistant and a movie star. The heroine is stuck substituting as a model for one of the hero’s photo shoots, and I’m all for this particular meet-cute. Though many readers found the romance to be cute and sweet, others felt it was a little flat and lacking any oomph. It has a 3.9-star rating on Goodreads and is the second book in the Marsden series.
It’s where everyone knows your business—and remembers everything you’d rather forget. But somehow the little Catskills town of Marsden draws the most unlikely people back home, turns their lives every which way, and helps them finally figure out what—and who—they want most…
As a celebrity photographer’s assistant, Celia Marshall is used to seeing all kinds of weird antics. But subbing as the model in irrepressible movie star Niall Crenshaw’s latest endorsement ad—while wearing his silk boxers, no less—is definitely not in her job description. Neither is falling for him, especially since he’s dating his latest co-star. To complicate things further, Celia is returning to Marsden to keep an eye on her eccentric grandmother—and Niall is driving her there, then staying to judge a talent contest…
Soon Celia is pulled in a dozen different directions, trying to get her grandmother to act her age, placating her frantic former boss who’s organizing the contest—and attempting to stay away from funny, sexy Niall. Celia’s always been level headed, but suddenly she’s wishing she could get reckless right along with him. Has the time come for sensible Celia to cut loose?

Hollywood on Tap
RECOMMENDED: Hollywood on Tap by Avery Flynn is 99c at Amazon and Barnes & Noble! It’s $2.99 elsewhere. This is the second book in the Sweet Salvation Brewery series. The first book, Enemies on Tap ( A | BN | K | G | AB ), wasn’t too bad. A little fluffy. A little overdramatic at times. But it was an enjoyable, quick read. However, I was really excited for the second book seeing as how the hero is a quiet, lumberjack of a man (not a real lumberjack, but you know…big, beefy, and mmm) and the heroine is a bit of a Type-A workaholic. My kind of pairing. I definitely liked this one more than the first in terms of character chemistry, though I felt having the hero be a former Hollywood celebrity was unnecessary. It has a 4-star rating on Goodreads.
For years, Sean O’Dell has hidden his past as a Hollywood heartthrob from everyone at the Sweet Salvation Brewery. However, the arrival of nosey efficiency expert Natalie Sweet threatens the status quo. It doesn’t help that with her glasses, buttoned-up sweaters and always pulled-back hair that she’s uncovered one secret already: His attraction for hot librarian types.
Natalie has had enough of the strong-and-silent Sean submarining her efforts to change the brewery for the better. She’s ready to do whatever it takes to make her vision a reality, even if that means taking down the pig-headed and too-hot-for-his-own-good brewmaster.
Sizzling attraction battles stubborn determination as Natalie and Sean go head to head in a battle that’s anything but business as usual.

The Kelly Brothers Books 1-3
The Kelly Brothers Boxed Set by Crista McHugh is 99c! In this set, there are three romances with brother heroes. There’s the real estate developer hero. The hockey player hero. And the Air Force pilot hero. Something for everyone! Many readers compared McHugh’s contemporary romance tone to that of Bella Andre’s style, and I should also note that the books in the series are also available individually on Scribd.
The first three books in the popular Kelly Brothers series from New York Times and USA Today Bestselling Author Crista McHugh.
The Sweetest Seduction (Book 1):
Lia Mantovani has created one of the hottest restaurants on Chicago’s Magnificent Mile, but all that could disappear if she loses her lease with Kelly Properties. Having had her dreams ripped away from her before, she’ll do everything in her power to keep her restaurant. Her fate hangs on the whims of the frustratingly handsome Adam Kelly.
Adam has spent years trying to convince world famous chef Amadeus Schlittler to open a restaurant in Chicago, but he wants the prime location held by Lia. Business has always come first… until sparks fly when Adam meets her. When things get hot outside the kitchen, though, they’re both in danger of getting burned.
Breakaway Hearts (Book 2):
Hockey star Ben Kelly has retreated to his mountain cabin in the ski town of Cascade, BC, to recuperate from a season-ending knee injury and contemplate his future in the NHL. He never expects to run into the one woman who got away. Nine years may have passed, but nothing has dulled the explosive chemistry between them. Now he wants more than just one night.
Hailey Eriksson had Olympic-sized dreams until an accidental pregnancy from a one-night stand halted her ambitions. Her life was shattered when her son died. Nothing will keep her from fulfilling her promise to him to make the Olympic team, especially not the charming Ben Kelly. Unfortunately, he’s out to sweep her off her feet this time, and she finds him harder and harder to resist with each passionate kiss. But when he learns about the child he never knew, will their rekindled romance be on thin ice?
Falling for the Wingman (Book 3):
Air Force pilot Caleb Kelly has come back home with one mission in mind—to propose to the woman whose letters and lucky charm helped him survive his deployment in Afghanistan. But when he finds their apartment empty with a note saying she’s left him, he arrives at her mother’s house in rural Alabama less than a week before Kourtney is about to marry another man. Now he’s out to win her heart again and gets some unexpected assistance from her younger sister, Alex.
Alex Leadbetter has always thought Caleb was too good for her manipulative, social-climbing sister. She had assumed Kourtney’s identity to write letters to him and keep his spirits up until he returned home to the hard truth, never expecting to fall in love with him along the way. After he shows up in town, she convinces him that the best way to get Kourtney back is to make her think he’s fallen for someone new — her. But when a fake romance becomes all too real, her deception may leave them both grounded.

I enjoyed the Marsden series, but I particularly liked the hero in this one. Unlike most movie star heroes, he’s not all about the glamour. He’s not uniformly gorgeous, he’s a comic with a string of D grade movies behind him, and he haz secrets. The heroine is also appealing, but it helps to have read the first book in the series (which appears to be $1.99 at Amazon at present) to appreciate her story.
