Details? Of course! The winner will be subscribed for one calendar year to the Harlequin SuperRomance line, and will receive four print Superromances every month. Prize value: $170+ USD.
What kind of books are in the Harlequin Superromance line? Well, first, they’re larger than other books published in the category lines – up to 85,000 words. Second, they, to quote the Harlequin website, “are filled with powerful relationships that deliver a strong emotional punch and a guaranteed happily ever after.” In other words, FEELS. FEELS AHOY EVERYWHERE GET THE FEELS ROOMBA TO CORRAL THEM.
Here are what some Superromance authors have to say about the line they write in, and why they love it:Liz Talley: Superromance is… robust, fully-fleshed romance that stretches the gamut of settings, character-types and genres. Superromance is perfect for the eclectic and discerning romance reader.
Claire McEwen:Â I love Superromance because the stories are complicated and interesting. Â When I read them, I get the intense romance and happy ending that I so enjoy, but I also get so much more: fully realized secondary characters, fascinating settings, really creative conflicts and situations. Â When I finish a Super I feel like I’ve actually been with the characters in a very emotional and compelling place. Â It’s the best kind of escape.
Lenora Worth: Â I love writing Superromance. The stories are longer, deeper and include more family dynamics. I’ve always read Supers. And I always wanted to write for the line. A Super can be very sweet or more steamy and I like that about the line, too. It’s a saga that draws the reader into the characters and their world. I’ve learned a lot, writing for Superromance.Â
Jennifer Lohmann: What I love aboutSuperromance can best be described in pitching my books to my editor. When I pitch something like, “So, there’s this heroine who lost her Olympic gold medal because she doped…” my editor responds, “Great! Don’t pull your punches.” It’s that “don’t pull your punches” attitude that makes Supers so wonderful. If you haven’t read a SuperRomance before, and you like contemporary romances with layered stories and  lot of emotion, you’ll want to enter this giveaway.

I love to read contemporary romances. I love starting off my morning reading them. SuperRomances seem to have more depth to the stories, so I really get into them!
I enjoy a super romance that involves people who are of different backgrounds, lifestyles. Also like when they grew up together as best friends, then look at each other and wonder… or when its a sister of the guys best friend, and he knows he shouldn’t be looking or thinking those thoughts and he too wonders where they came from.Good witty banter of course. I love a good giggle, or smirk!
My personal catnip is the wounded hero. Whether in spirit or in body, if he is broken in some way, then I am all in! I loathe second chance stories. I loathe stories where there is Big Misunderstanding because the hero and heroine didn’t talk to each other.
I love to read both historical romances and my cowboys!!!
I want the feels!!! The Harlequin SuperRomance line is my favorite of Harlequins’, though my favorite genre is paranormal. I know with SuperRomance, I get the best authors and they have more room to tell the story. I love more story!! And I can always be guaranteed a superb story with lots of emotion. Love it!! Pick me!! Pick me!! 🙂
I love to read Superromances because every book is different, yet equally satisfying. They are stories that show promise in the human condition. A lot of people who criticize the Romance genre for setting up unrealistic expectations should read a few Superromances and get a taste for what real life romance should be like.
I was very disappointed when they stopped putting them on the shelves at my local Walmart, but I have a few favorite authors I autobuy.
As long as I have a HEA, and it is not paranormal I am normally good. I read a lot of historical, but also enjoy the super romances, medical ones, and the intrigues. Can’t forget cowboy ones too.
Very exciting giveaway!!
My favourite contemporarys have darkness and/or angst and vulnerable, slightly tortured heroines. I prefer my tortured characters to think, behave and have emotions which are characteristic of somewhat traumatized people. This contrasts with characters who have tortured backstories, but maintain healthy self-esteem, cheerful outlooks on life and perceptions of safety in the world which are normally only seen in cartoon characters such as Scrappy Doo.
This in no way reflects on my mental health.
I prefer contemporary, but I will read western, historical or ya.
I like to read romances with heart and humour. The characters have to be relatable and the setting must be somewhere I’d like to see myself.
I have read a lot of contemporary romance books. I like these because they more today with all the things that people face today. I love the the Superromance line because the stories are longer and they are more involved.
When it comes to contemporary romances I like to read both romantic suspense and cozy mysteries.
My favorite contemporaries are the ones that offer a good dose of humor. When a hero and heroine can dish out some wickedly witty repartee, that trips all my triggers!
I’m not the biggest contemporary fan , because I don’t find them all that interesting. I like adventure with maybe a little mystery mixed in. I prefer beta heroes and I like my h/h to act like adults. I’ve never read a super romance though, so I would love to give them a chance.
Pro:
Rural/wilderness settings
Competence porn
Military/police are good, as long as it’s glorified setup for competence porn. See above.
I’m ag’in:
Second chance stories
Secret baby/second chance (even if the H hid it from the baby’s father, I just can’t)
I don’t have a favorite. I like them all.
I agree with Bethany. I like a heroine in jeopardy story and a strong caring hero.
I love the SuperRomance line. I love contemporary romances best, and I love all kinds. I guess my favorite is friends to lovers. I do love an Alpha male occasionally, but I really like it when the characters are equals. I like small town romances, second chance romances too. I love watching two people coming together, maybe comprising, and ending up loving each other.
I’m a sucker for friends to lovers stories. (*whispers*I also love secret baby stories!)
I like contemporaries with feminist characters who don’t fall into stereotypes.
I love romantic suspense, but love a good romance too. Heroine realizes about the same time as the hero that she is in love with the hero, but fights against it. Then he tries to convince her that he is in love with her too.
I’ve read a lot of Superromances in my time. I like ones that have a light touch at least some of the time. Hundreds of pages of unrelieved angst leaves me depressed, to be honest. So bring on the sprawling stories with an interesting cast of characters, some real challenges for the heroine and hero, but don’t forget a little sense of proportion, humour and humanity while you’re at it!
ive been on a contemporary kick lately, and I have to admit to loving the MMA ones, particularly Kele Moon. I also love the rugged, alpha hero with a heart of gold, definitely someone confident and funny. Rock Addiction by Nalini Signh has me hooked now. And then I also love the lighthearted romance with a quirky community. Jill Shalvis excels at making this story work.
I like light-hearted contemporary romances, especially small town ones, where there’s enough angst to keep the tension high but that doesn’t turn into a soap opera melodrama
I tend to read a variety of contemporary. Everything from small town to sports to undercover black ops team suspense. Basically anything except for where the main characters are too stupid to live. People who ignore advice from experts because “you are not my supervisor” equals a giant NOPE.
I like to read the high school crush romance where the crushee learns to appreciate the crushor later in life.
My current favorite contemporary theme is sports. A lot of hockey, some rugby, some baseball, even a bit of football in the mix. It’s funny because I don’t really enjoy sports but a sports hero? I’m all over it.
I love a mix of contamporary romances. Geek heroes are my favorite, but I also love the fish out of water trope where either the hero or the heroine is put in a situation they don’t know how to handle and have to work to resolve it.
I like contemporary romances that revolve around a very strong, self-sufficient heroine who is very career-oriented, like an athlete or graduate student. It’s also important to me that the characters’ reactions and dialogue be extremely realistic and not exaggerated.
I absolutely love hot, suspense romances with great character development. They pull me in and allow me to step away from real life for a little while 🙂
Aloha,
My favorite contemporary romances to read happen to be harlequin super romances. The books are well written and have a lot of layers to them. I like that the books are longer and deal with every day people and every day situations.
I grew up in a small town in a rural part of Michigan so I tend to favor stories set in this type of location, especially if either the hero or heroine is returning to his/her small town roots. I love intelligent and goal-oriented heroes and heroines who engage in witty banter, and bonus points if one or both have an unusual career or hobby that enhances the story plot. I love the sexual tension that develops between the hero and heroine but I don’t need to read pages and pages describing the actual act. I love the SuperRomance line!
Now this isn’t strictly reserved for contemporary romances, but I like stories with heroines who have motivating interests and are good what they do (I’m a sucker for scientists, but I like lawyers, mechanics, librarians, chefs, programmers… you get the point). And I like my heroines to have sisters, coworkers, and friends that are interesting and supportive. I like heroes that kind, emotionally self-aware and can articulate themselves well (huge bonus points if there’s a bromance). Small town romances are lovely (especially if there are crotchety matchmaking neighbours) and my finger clicks buy so quickly for anything where the protagonists send snarky but heartfelt letters/emails/texts/tweets at each other. I also like blue collar-romances (I just cannot buy into billionaires who have time to have dalliances, despite having no problems suspending disbelief with fornicating dukes–perhaps the 99% resentment? you can have the $$$ but you can’t have our HEA)
I like main characters to have an unusual hobby or vocation readers can learn about. Please, no more bar owners, knit shop entrepreneurs or cupcake bakers. The lead couple should have a contemporary relationship with ups and downs that are conquered by compromise and love.
I love contemporaries with a lot of humor and a hero or heroine (or both) that feels unworthy or unlovable. That’s my catnip right there.
As long as it’s romance I’m there !
I read all contemporary romance except paranormal. Love big stories!
I love contemporary romances. I tend to gravitate to alpha heroes – military men are my catnip but I also love cowboys and cops and any story with kids (for instance, single moms and dads)and I love witty banter and humor in the stories. I have a fondness for small town settings (perhaps because I haven’t lived in one since I was a child and miss it) and I love reconnecting with the towns people with each subsequent book in a series.
I love contemporary romances that are character driven and snarky heroines that don’t take any crap.
I love the Rock N Roll contemporary romances – there’s something about a tatted up bad boy tortured artist . . .
