Books On Sale

Historicals out the Wazoo

Yesterday, the Bitchery pointed out tons of awesome historical romances on sale, so we’ve picked a few recommended reads!

  • The Duke of Dark Desires

The Duke of Dark Desires by Miranda Neville

RECOMMENDED: The Duke of Dark Desires by Miranda Neville is $1.99! This is the fourth and latest book in the Wild Quartet series. The earlier books also appear to be on sale. Elyse reviewed this and gave it an impressive A grade:

I cannot recommend this book highly enough. As far as historical romances go, it’s got a lot of everything good. The hero and heroine break stereotypes and are fully fleshed characters. There’s intrigue and eroticism aplenty. Just make sure you pace yourself and savor this one.

Wanted: Governess able to keep all hours . . .

Rebellious Julian Fortescue never expected to inherit a dukedom, nor to find himself guardian to three young half-sisters. Now in the market for a governess, he lays eyes on Jane Grey and knows immediately she is qualified—to become his mistress. Yet the alluring woman appears impervious to him. Somehow Julian must find a way to make her succumb to temptation . . . without losing his heart and revealing the haunting mistakes of his past.

Desired: Duke skilled in the seductive art of conversation . . .

Lady Jeanne de Falleron didn’t seek a position as a governess simply to fall into bed with the Duke of Denford. Under the alias of Jane Grey, she must learn which of the duke’s relatives is responsible for the death of her family—and take her revenge. She certainly can’t afford the distraction of her darkly irresistible employer, or the smoldering desire he ignites within her .

But as Jane discovers more clues about the villain she seeks, she’s faced with a possibility more disturbing than her growing feelings for Julian: What will she do if the man she loves is also the man she’s sworn to kill?

  • The Elusive Lord Everhart

The Elusive Lord Everhart by Vivienne Lorret

The Elusive Lord Everhart by Vivienne Lorret is available for preorder for only 99c! This is the first book in a new historical romance series and it comes out next Tuesday, so you won’t have to wait too long! Some advanced reviews say that characters from Lorret’s previous series make appearances, but that doesn’t stop The Elusive Lord Everhart from being read as a standalone.

Gabriel Ludlow, Viscount Everhart, will never marry, and thus is sure to win the bachelors’ wager amongst his friends. Assuming, of course, that his deepest secret—a certain letter containing a marriage proposal made in a moment of passion—doesn’t surface. After all, without Calliope Croft to tempt him, there’s no danger of losing. Or of falling in love.

Calliope wants revenge. Five years ago, an anonymous love letter stole her heart and ultimately broke it. Now Casanova has struck again, and Calliope vows to unmask the scoundrel, stopping him from breaking any more hearts. Yet, time and again, Gabriel distracts her from her task, until she can no longer deny that something about him calls to her…

Gabriel was a fool to ignore the depth of his feelings for Calliope, but the threat that kept him from her five years ago remains. Now he must choose between two paths: break her heart all over again or finally succumb to loving her… at the risk of losing everything.

  • Savage Thunder

    Savage Thunder by Johanna Lindsey

Savage Thunder by Johanna Lindsey is 99c! In fact, most of Lindsey’s backlist seems to be on sale, if you’re looking to stock up. This is a historical western and has the infamous horseback sex scene. Yep, you read that right. This is an old skool romance and readers recommend that if you keep the pub date in mind, appreciating and enjoying the book is a lot easier. After all, the eighties were a crazy time for everyone. This is the second book in Lindsey’s Wyoming series and has a 3.9-star rating on GoodReads.

Newly widowed after a shockingly brief marriage to an elderly British lord, Jocelyn Fleming still aches with the pain of unexplored desire. And now her restless heart is leading her far from the protective bosom of polite London society to the perilous beauty of the American West…and to Colt Thunder.

Breathlessly exciting but dangerously unpredictable, Colt is a loner whose Cheyenne blood burns hotter than the blistering Arizona sun. Jocelyn’s wealth and title mean nothing to this strange whose passion rules his actions and his heart. But neither the wild desert stallion nor the untouched English rose can deny their irresistible attraction. . .or prevent the firestorm of emotion that erupts when their vastly different worlds collide.

  • A Kiss at Midnight

A Kiss at Midnight by Eloisa James

A Kiss at Midnight by Eloisa James is $2.99 at Amazon and Google:Play. This is the first book in the Fairy Tale series, and it has a 3.8-star average.

This book was nominated for a RITA in 2011, and our RITA Reader Challenge reviewer, Jayne, gave it an A-, saying, “I thought this was wonderful. If you’re looking for historical accuracy and nail-biting tension, look elsewhere. If you’re looking for froth, sparkles, castles, ballgowns, elaborate wigs, and glass slippers (oh, and the glass slippers are SO wonderful), this is perfect. I savored every page. By the time Gabriel and Kate ride off into the sunset, I believed that they loved and deserved each other and all that was left was a contented sigh from me.”

Miss Kate Daltry doesn’t believe in fairy tales . . . or happily ever after.

Forced by her stepmother to attend a ball, Kate meets a prince . . . and decides he’s anything but charming. A clash of wits and wills ensues, but they both know their irresistible attraction will lead nowhere. For Gabriel is promised to another woman—a princess whose hand in marriage will fulfill his ruthless ambitions.

Gabriel likes his fiancée, which is a welcome turn of events, but he doesn’t love her. Obviously, he should be wooing his bride-to-be, not the witty, impoverished beauty who refuses to fawn over him.

Godmothers and glass slippers notwithstanding, this is one fairy tale in which destiny conspires to destroy any chance that Kate and Gabriel might have a happily ever after.

Unless a prince throws away everything that makes him noble . . .

Unless a dowry of an unruly heart trumps a fortune . . .

Unless one kiss at the stroke of midnight changes everything.

  1. JacquiC says:

Sigh. Neither the Neville nor the James is on sale in Canada. I guess I am grateful that my TBR pile didn’t get any bigger yet today…

  2. Lynnd says:

@JacquiC the state of my TBR and is also the only reason that I’m grateful that most of these sales aren’t available in Canada. Unfortunately for these authors, I’m not going to pay $9.99 plus 13% HST for their books.

Audible is also having a sale on books for members and I noticed that there are several romances, including 3 of the Gabaldon books, including Outlander, are on sale for $6.95 (that is in U.S.$, which means that they are about $9.00 Cdn with our sinking loonie).

  3. LauraL says:

Catnip alarm went off for The Elusive Lord Everhart. Somebody is going to get a second chance.

I’ll take a pass at Savage Thunder. I remember reading the infamous scene with my horsy friends at the stables back in the day….

  4. olivia says:

All I saw was foreskin instead of fortescue, and now I know if I read it, that’s all I’ll see.

  5. Lostshadows says:

Since Lindsey was my first, that sale killed my book budget for the month. Even after a lot of, “nostalgia is great, but do you really want to reread that?” debates.

  6. Karenmc says:

Crap! Three books yesterday, three more today. How many more days in this month? This hasn’t broken the budget yet, but my Kindle is getting SO HEAVY…

  7. Susan says:

Savage Thunder was my favorite JL book. It’s hard to say what I’d think about it if I read it for the first time today, but it was awesome back in the day. (But that’s probably true about a huge percentage of my collection.)

And, yes, the HarperCollins/Avon sale has been a total budget buster. (And I may not be done yet.) 🙂

    @olivia: Dammit!! Cannot now unsee.

  8. No idea what makes her dark. No idea what the book is about. But that cover is just killing me. I had no idea I had such a thing for black, but both here and heroine in black are simply gorgeous and so different from the typical.

    Bought.

  9. Karin says:

Yeah, that is one awesome cover on DoDD. One of the best I’ve ever seen.

  10. Joanna says:

As usual offer prices not matched in UK. Anyhow everyone here been watching eclipse.

  11. Brynhild says:

DoDD isn’t showing up as on sale for me, even though I have a US Kindle. 🙁

  12. Karin says:

@Brynhild, it looks like the DoDD is no longer on sale, the only Neville book for .99 is “The Ruin of a Rogue”. But there are lots and lots of other great Harper Collins books on sale. Here’s a search that will give you all of them, starting from the cheapest. http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=sr_pg_1?fst=as%3Aoff&rh=n%3A283155%2Cn%3A23%2Cn%3A13371%2Cp_n_feature_browse-bin%3A618073011%2Ck%3AHarperCollins&sort=price-asc-rank&keywords=HarperCollins&unfiltered=1&ie=UTF8&qid=1426865993
