I’m generally not a superstitious person, but I do knock wood when I’m trying to avert bad luck/avoid bad karma. Some of my family says “pooh-pooh-pooh” in the same circumstances, so if I’m with them, I say that too, but it’s not a part of my usual vocab.

  2. Cory Day says:

I don’t really have any tricks for luck, but I do have certain music I listen to that calm me down in times when I feel I need luck (right now the big one seems to be the soundtrack for Kinky Boots). I also still have my teddy bear from when I was a kid…

  3. DSliter says:

I’m a crazy LSU Football fan, so when it comes to College Football season I have to do certain things, or we are doomed to failure.

I HAVE to wear an LSU shirt the Friday before Game Day.
I HAVE to sit in the exact same spot on the floor of my living room, or we start to lose.
And I HAVE to watch the games from home and only from home. (Of course, that may just be because my husband is too embarrassed to be seen with me in public while I’m cheering for the Tigers.)

    GEAUX TIGERS!!!!

  4. Alex says:

I don’t really do anything for luck but I do try to avoid jinxing things. Never say it’s not to busy at work or it will get busy for example.

  5. SonjaRose says:

I wear my highest heels possible to important meetings and job interviews. Normally I am 100% a flats person but for important stuff I haul out the four inch stilletos. For some reason I am convinced they bring me luck and power. At least I could win if it devolved into a fight. 🙂

  6. ReneeG says:

I work hard so I’m prepared when any luck decides to shine its light on me!

And I ask my friend’s angel Clarabelle for parking spaces, when I am in need.

  7. Jess says:

My lucky necklace is the one that my husband gave me for our second wedding anniversary–I wear it every day, because when I don’t my luck seems to run out!

  8. Stacey says:

Depending on the situation I do different things… knock on wood, blow a kiss, cross my fingers (and toes!). Trying to answer this made me realize what a scattered little bag of superstitions I have 🙂

  9. Kanoko says:

I have no ritual for luck. I don’t even cross my fingers (though that may be because it’s a cultural thing?).

    Does due diligence count? 😀

  10. Algae says:

I always knock wood, but other than that, not too much.

    I’m a bad Irishwoman.

(I also don’t like corned beef. I do sunburn rather quickly.)

  11. jcp says:

    no lucky charms or rituals

  12. Ashley says:

I think positively, especially towards anything I really want. For example I’ll think: I will win or It will happen. I’ll also avoid wearing or doing anything that is associated with having bad luck more than once. Well at least until I get a chance change it towards something positive.

  13. AuntieKristin says:

I have no luck at all!

  14. Hanne says:

I’m way too much of a realist to believe in luck! I still hope to win this giveaway, of course, but there are no rituals or lucky actions involved 😉

  15. Pooja N says:

When I was growing up, I used to carry around this really smooth little pebble in my pocket whenever I had an exam or test. It was of a deep bluey-green hue, and that weight in my pocket would be such a reassurance!
I don’t carry around that stone anymore, but I do do have this thing with wearing mismatched socks on purpose – ‘Dobby style!’ – I’ll wear one blue and one green…or match pink and purple! And since I’m wearing boots on top nobody can see my socks, so it’s like a secret good luck charm!

  16. Janet K says:

I carry a 1969 JFK 50 cent piece for luck. I got it a number of years ago on Newbury Street in Boston in exchange for 4 quarters, when a woman approached me about needing change for her parking meter. At the time I (and, I think, she) thought the 50 cent piece was a dollar coin. I got the last laugh, though, because although the woman “ripped me off” 50 cents at the time, the 1969 half dollar is worth about $20 today. How’s that for luck!?

  17. TaraR says:

I try to wear something new. Any little piece of clothing, or accessory, that hasn’t been worn before.

  18. Samantha says:

Hold my breath and beg the universe, usually!

  19. What do I do for luck?

Slam on the gas and hope for the best!

  20. puckbuff13 says:

I have a pair of boots that I call my “Kick Ass and Take Name” boots and they always bring me luck!

  21. Morgan says:

I have lucky underwear! I wore them for every exam during college. And
i graduated, so they must’ve worked, right?!

  22. Teresa B says:

I carry a lucky touchstone in my pocket.

  23. I wear my 3 leaf green jade pendant for luck.
    Good luck to everyone!
    Regards,
    Deb

  24. Kristen Westfall says:

I am more about keeping bad luck away-throwing salt if it spills, etc. Although I do have 3 black cats that I swear are lucky!

  25. Ann Marie says:

I used to carry a lucky rabbit’s foot when I was young. Lucky for me not the rabbit. I don’t really have anything now. Maybe that’s why I haven’t won the lottery.

  26. AJ says:

I don’t have any particular lucky rituals now– although if I am going into something stressful, I will usually wear a piece of jewelry that has some sort of sentimental value.

As a child, I used to believe in lucky underpants (I think I was ‘inspired’ by Calvin & Hobbes on that one…)

  27. Lisa Boike says:

The only time I really try to do anything for luck is when I am watching a key Red Wing game. Then I put my Gordie Howe signed puck on the TV and wear my jersey.

  28. EvelynS says:

I cross my fingers, close my eyes and wish for luck! ??

  29. Lauren O says:

I pick up pennies on the street for luck

  30. Priscilla says:

Find and collect 4 leaf clovers!

  31. Jean Ehreth says:

I don’t have a lucky charm. However, I’ve found that praying helps!

  32. kisah says:

I do more of the keeping-bad-luck-away things, like throwing salt over my shoulder if it’s spilled, knocking on wood, that kind of thing. And I always pick up pennies in the street, heads up or otherwise, cause hey – that’s money!

  33. DonnaMarie says:

Not lucky for me, per se, but if the Bears or Hawks are failing to score, I will turn off the game. Its the only way they’ll score. If I’m at my brothers’, I’ll take the dog for a walk. There will be a historic level of scoring. Remember that 2 goals in 10 seconds Stanley Cup finale? Outside with the dog. You’re welcome. Only crazy if it doesn’t work.

  34. ISCSAl says:

I occasionally cross my fingers. But luck to me seems to be opportunity with being prepared.

  35. Diane Mc. says:

    Crossing my fingers.

  36. I’m with many of the other commenters, I try to keep away the bad luck by knocking on wood or tossing the salt over my left shoulder. so far so good.

  37. Gloriamarie Amalfitano says:

What do I do for luck? ROTFMAO!! Not a blasted thing! Growing up, my mother was superstitious about pennies found on the ground and whether they were heads up or heads down which would bring instant wealth or poverty, respectively. Never happened. Itchy palms meant wealth would come in the mail. Never happened. Walking under a ladder would bring bad luck whereas sceptical child that I was could only see that it courted danger of tools being dropped on one’s head. And let’snot talk about black cats which I can only see as gorgeous creatures. Nope. I don’t believe in something as flighty as luck. I believe in personal responsibility and accepting consequences. Sometimes this also means we have to accept the consequences of the actions of others. For example, I would totally and completely love the consequences of being chosen the recipient of a diamond bracelet.

  38. Woodie says:

I think black cats are lucky. When visiting Spain last yr an old man stopped us in the street while we were watching the sun go down in the valley and said, “All cats are black in the night.” So, that means ALL cats are lucky, right? I do the knock-on-wood thing and leveraging Murphy’s law whenever I can, as well.

  39. Kalbert says:

I get a manicure and smile really widely. It’s not the same as “making your own luck”, but I can fake fun and charismatic for just long enough to tip things in my direction while hoping the mask doesn’t come off before the challenge is over.

  40. Ruth says:

    Rub my whale’s tail necklace.
