Their best hope lies with Cress, a girl imprisoned on a satellite since childhood who’s only ever had her netscreens as company. All that screen time has made Cress an excellent hacker. Unfortunately, she’s just received orders from Levana to track down Cinder and her handsome accomplice.

When a daring rescue of Cress goes awry, the group is separated. Cress finally has her freedom, but it comes at a high price. Meanwhile, Queen Levana will let nothing prevent her marriage to Emperor Kai. Cress, Scarlet, and Cinder may not have signed up to save the world, but they may be the only hope the world has.

  • Enchanted

    Enchanted by Alethea Kontis

Enchanted by Alethea Kontis is $1.99! This is another YA, fairy tale-inspired book and it’s the first in the Woodcutter Sisters series. Carrie reviewed the book previously and gave it a B+:

There’s a lot of mutual saving in this book and interestingly they mostly work together to save other people, not each other.  I like this couple, I like the story, and I’m even more excited to read the next book, Hero.  Each story is supposed to work as a stand alone with a shared work and some shared characters, so I’m excited.  I don’t think this book is perfect (it’s really busy and rushed) and I don’t think it’s for everyone (melodrama) but I do think that Alethea has earned her tiara.

It isn’t easy being the rather overlooked and unhappy youngest sibling to sisters named for the other six days of the week. Sunday’s only comfort is writing stories, although what she writes has a terrible tendency to come true.

When Sunday meets an enchanted frog who asks about her stories, the two become friends. Soon that friendship deepens into something magical. One night Sunday kisses her frog goodbye and leaves, not realizing that her love has transformed him back into Rumbold, the crown prince of Arilland—and a man Sunday’s family despises.

The prince returns to his castle, intent on making Sunday fall in love with him as the man he is, not the frog he was. But Sunday is not so easy to woo. How can she feel such a strange, strong attraction for this prince she barely knows? And what twisted secrets lie hidden in his past—and hers?

  1. Heather S says:

I bought “Cinder” at a previous sale. Haven’t read it yet, but glad to have the next two now so I can do a book binge if the urge occurs. 🙂

  2. Vasha says:

Do read Enchanted! It’s very smart and unique. I am eagerly about to dive into the third book in the trilogy.

  3. I did a review of Cinder not too long ago. It was so good, and I loved the twist that was added to the story. It was sort of like Sailor Moon meets Cinderella. It was so much fun to read, and I loved Prince Kai. ^_^

  4. MOB says:

While Cinder is good, the next two books are even better. The plotting and fairytale tie-ins of Scarlet and Cress are just brilliantly done. I just finished Fairest, a prequel to the last book in the series Winter. I’m too old to fan girl…. well, maybe not…. can’t wait…. I checked them out from the library, so I’m popping off now to buy all of these.

  5. L. says:

I see Meagan McKinney’s Till Dawn Tames The Night is a KDD. Is this old school worth looking into?

  6. Heather says:

I’m a bit burned out on YA as a rule, but seriously, The Lunar Chronicles are soooooo great. Each book gets stronger. Highly recommend them.

And I am interested in reading Enchanted, I’ve heard good things.

  7. ReneeG says:

Levana (the Lunar Queen’s) story is out. Fairest came out this month, to hold us over until the final book. Excellent series! Love the world building and how strong the Heroines are.

  8. Crystal F. says:

YES! I read The Lunar Chronicles last summer and LOVED it. I enjoyed Cinder. Scarlet was ‘okay’. (It didn’t draw me in until near the end, and it felt more geared towards the Twilight crowd). Cress was amazing, a really fun, non-stop adventure!

Meyer does a great job of giving the title characters and their storylines equal time and development, even though they each have their own book named after them. I’m in agony that we have to wait so long for ‘Winter’. That girl seems nuts.
