More $1.99 Romantic Suspenses Than You Could Shake a Stick At

  • Chosen to Die

Chosen to Die by Lisa Jackson

Chosen to Die by Lisa Jackson is $1.99! This is the second book in the To Die series and is a mystery/romantic suspense. Admittedly, I’m always unsure how to categorize Lisa Jackson books, so any additional comments from the Bitchery would be most helpful. The description is a little intense and the content could possibly be triggering for some readers. This is also a continuation of the first book in the series, so I wouldn’t recommend trying to read this one on its own. It has a 4.1-star rating on GR.

    HE’LL CHOOSE THEM…
Detective Regan Pescoli has worked the “Star Crossed Killer” case for months, never imagining she’d be captured by the madman she’s been hunting. Regan knows exactly what he’s capable of – and avoiding the same fate will take every drop of her courage and cunning.

    ABDUCT THEM…
Regan Pescoli is unlike any woman Nate Santana has met before. But now she’s missing, and Nate knows something is dangerously wrong. The only person who can help him find her is Detective Selena Alvarez, Regan’s partner. As Nate and Selena dig deeper into the Star-Crossed Killer case and the body count rises, the truth about Regan’s disappearance becomes chillingly clear.

    AND KILL THEM…
In the desolate Montana woods, evil is lurking. And with time running out, the only way to save Regan will be to get inside a killer’s twisted mind and unravel a shocking message that is being revealed, one body at a time…

  • Against the Wind

Against the Wind by Kat Martin

Against the Wind by Kat Martin is $1.99! This romantic suspense isn’t to be confused with her other romantic suspense, Against the Wild ( A | BN | K | G | AB | Au ). This particular book is the first in the Raines of Wind Canyon series and is set in Wyoming, and I can’t resist a man in a Stetson, sadly. The hero and heroine have a bit of a past, which is something readers felt enhanced the couple’s interactions. On the other hand, a few mentioned the choppiness of the pacing and writing. Anyone familiar with Kat Martin and this series?

They were known as the “no-account Raines boys” but they’ve grown into successful, honorable men and everything they have, they’ve fought for tooth and nail. Now each of the three brothers has one last obstacle to overcome to claim what’s eluding them: love.

Secrets don’t stay buried long in cattle country. Sarah Allen, the beautiful girl who humiliated Jackson Raines in high school, is back in town. Not so long ago, she couldn’t wait to leave Wind Canyon, Wyoming, in her dust. But, recently widowed, she has nowhere else to go and finds herself on Jackson’s ranch. And Jackson’s finding himself reluctant to get rid of her.

Sarah brings her own kind of trouble, and he can’t resist trouble. Enemies of her dead husband show up making threats, thinking she has something they’re owed. They’re not taking no for an answer, but what they will take is the one thing she has left—her daughter. Jackson’s the only one who might be able to save little Holly and bring her home.

  • Behind Closed Doors

Behind Closed Doors by Shannon McKenna

Behind Closed Doors by Shannon McKenna is $1.99! This is the first book in the McClouds & Friends romantic suspense series and it looks like a number of the books are on sale. So get ’em while they’re hot. Surprisingly, a lot of the reviews on GR mention that there was too much sex despite enjoying the overall plot. It also has a 3.8-star rating on GR.

    EVERY MOVE YOU MAKE . . .

Surveillance expert Seth Mackey knows everything about the women that his millionaire boss toys with–and tosses aside. Raine Cameron is something different. Night after night, Seth watches her on a dozen different video screens. Her vulnerable beauty haunts him and her fresh innocence stirs a white-hot passion that he can barely control. Raine is pure temptation, but Seth has something more important to take care of first. He’s convinced that his boss, Victor Lazar, is responsible for his half-brother’s murder. He cannot put his secret investigation at risk, but he can’t stop wanting her–craving her–and soon he knows he can’t let Victor have her. For Raine may be Victor’s next victim…

    EVERY BREATH YOU TAKE . . .

Raine knows she’s being watched–but no one can see the secrets in her heart. She has reasons of her own to seek revenge on Victor Lazar, and she will, despite her fear–and the distracting presence of Seth Mackey. Though Raine has little experience with men, Seth’s fiercely masculine good looks and animal sensuality stir her most erotic fantasies when she’s alone . . . and lead her to a bold plan. Offering her body to him, surrendering totally to his ruthless desire might well push her beyond all emotional limits–and beyond fear itself.

  • Killing Time

    Killing Time by Cindy Gerard

Killing Time by Cindy Gerard is $1.99! This romantic suspense is the first book in the One-Eyed Jacks series and the cover has reignited my hatred for aviator sunglasses. From the description, this book seems cracktastic. Assumed identities, a CIA attorney heroine, something called Operation Slam Dunk (which is what I hope to call my Saturday nights from now on). This book has some really great reviews regarding the couple’s chemistry and how it developed through the suspense plot. However, a few felt the story didn’t get exciting until the last quarter of it. Killing Time has a 4.1-star rating on GR.

For the seven years after Operation Slam Dunk went south, Mike Brown got drunk on each anniversary. The eighth year was no different–until he was drugged by a woman and woke up to her questions about what had happened eight years ago in Afghanistan. CIA attorney Eva Salinas has her own theory behind what happened to Mike’s team–which included her husband–in Afghanistan eight years ago, and she’s determined to prove foul play. Though she doesn’t trust him, Mike is the only person she can turn to for help. Under an assumed name, Eva convinces Mike to assemble a new team and go after the traitor who screwed up both their lives. As they track down the rogue who started it all, Eva and Mike discover they can’t live without each other. But can they stay alive while an enemy is still on the loose?

“…and the cover has reignited my hatred for aviator sunglasses”

    LOL! That cover is obnoxious.

  2. stacey says:

So I keep looking at the shirt on the cover. I finally realized that it must just be torn with some unfortunately 3D effect, but I kept waiting for someone to point out that it looks a little, uh, shall we say, interesting…

  3. Leah says:

So not to gank the sale thread, but I keep seeing ads on this site for books by Nalini Singh, and I was wondering if any of you recommended any of her stuff? It seems to have decent reviews, but you can never tell, and it’s sort of pricey in Kindle format for me to just buy blindly. (This I say when not ten years ago back home in Canada I had to spend 11-13 bucks on every paperback, even if it turned out to be crap!)

  4. Lisa J says:

@Leah: You can’t go wrong with Nalini Singh’s Psy/Changeling series. Start at the beginning with Slave to Sensation. You’ll get a good feel for the world and her writing style. Then, you’ll be able to just move to the next…and the next…and the next in the series.

  5. Kristin says:

I read the Shannon McKenna book awhile ago. “Hero” was creepy, stalker like and not super likeable.

  6. ReneeG says:

@Leah – second on Nalini Singh’s Psy/Changeling series and also her Guild Hunter series. She is fabulous!

  7. Leah says:

Thanks, Lisa and Renee! Good enough for me to at least give the first book a try!

  8. DonnaMarie says:

Sadly, Shannon McKenna may have taken that commentary to heart, because there seems to be less sex in later books. They are crack to me. Over the top and full of wtfery. There’s another one coming out soon, and I am full of anticipation.

  9. Julie M. says:

@Stacey – agreement here on the ripped shirt, it does look “odd”

  10. Celia Marsh says:

The Lisa Jackson book is part of the series with the most unfortunate cover in the world:

    https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/18723591-deserves-to-die

Also, I’ll ditto Nalini and the psy/changeling. If you’re lucky, you can get the collection of the first 5 books, otherwise I might suggest starting not with the very first book but #2 or #3, and then going back to #1 after you’re hooked
