Contemporary Romances with Billionaires, Sports, & Army Rangers

  • The Wedding Vow

The Wedding Vow by Cara Connelly

The Wedding Vow by Cara Connelly is $1.99! This is a contemporary romance and is the second book in her Save the Date series. For those with a hankering for billionaire heroes, this book’s got ’em. This is also an enemies-to-lovers story. Readers loved the back and forth between the characters and the fact the book can be read as a standalone installment. However, the hero has a bit of a secret that not all readers liked. It has a 4.1-star rating on GR.

    The Playboy
Sexy billionaire Adam LeCroix has a mission: hunt down the sultry spitfire he blames for his troubles, demand her help, and exact revenge while he’s at it. Maddie St. Clair will help him . . . or else.

    The Prosecutor
Former prosecutor Maddie damn near nailed Adam for stealing, but the lucky bastard walked. Now, five years later, he’s back, arrogant as ever, giving her an ultimatum—work for him to collect the insurance money, or she’ll never work again.

    The Problem
Maddie’s all about right and wrong. Adam’s shades of gray. So when he uncovers the hot body under her hard-ass veneer and she finds he’s a thief with a heart, can the law-and-order lawyer and the fast-and-loose felon put their prickly past behind them?

  • Alex

    Alex by Sawyer Bennett

Alex by Sawyer Bennett is 99c! If the cover looks familiar at all, that’s because it was at the top of the SBTB/DA Bestseller List this past Sunday. This is a contemporary sports romance with an ice cold, hockey playing hero. I will fully admit that hockey heroes are major catnip for me, so it’s taking everything I have not to throw some money my Kindle’s way. While many reviewers on GoodReads found the characters to be interesting and well-thought out, a few found their attention spans starting to wane halfway through. Any takers?

Hockey star Alexander Crossman has a reputation as a cold-hearted player on and off the rink. Pushed into the sport by an alcoholic father, Alex isn’t afraid to give fans the proverbial middle finger, relishing his role as the MVP they love to hate. Management, however, isn’t so amused. Now Alex has a choice: fix his public image through community service or ride the bench. But Alex refuses to be molded into the Carolina Cold Fury poster boy . . . not even by a tempting redhead with killer curves.

As a social worker, Sutton Price is accustomed to difficult people—like Alex, who’s been assigned to help her create a drug-abuse awareness program for at-risk youth as part of the team’s effort to clean up his image. What she doesn’t expect is the arrogant smirk from his perfect lips to stir her most heated fantasies. But Sutton isn’t one to cross professional boundaries—and besides, Alex doesn’t do relationships . . . or does he? The more she sees behind Alex’s bad-boy façade, the more Sutton craves the man she uncovers.

  • The Return of Brody McBride

The Return of Brody McBride by Jennifer Ryan

The Return of Brody McBride by Jennifer Ryan is 99c! This is the first book in The McBrides series and yes, we are aware of that man’s bulging biceps. This is a contemporary romance with a former Army Ranger for a hero. It’s also a small town romance with a secret baby plot. You know, the usual. Some readers weren’t too fond of the hero’s past transgressions, while others enjoyed the transition the hero made from beginning to end. Any comments from the Bitchery on this one?

The black sheep of Fallbrook is back … and he’s in for the surprise of his life.

Former bad boy, now-decorated Army Ranger Brody McBride is home and on a mission: Find the woman he never should have left behind and right the wrong he did eight years ago.

When the man she loved broke her heart and skipped town, Rain Evans picked up the pieces. But along with heartbreak, Brody left her something infinitely better than she could have imagined: two beautiful daughters. One she gave birth to, and the other she rescued from the woman who helped destroy her relationship with Brody.

Brody is shocked to discover he’s a father, and he’s more determined than ever to win back Rain and protect his girls. Can they rekindle the love they once shared and become the family they were always meant to be? Or will a danger from their past return and ruin everything?

  • All Lined Up

All Lined Up by Cora Carmack

All Lined Up by Cora Carmack is 99c! This is the first book in the Rusk University series and this is a new adult sports romance. I also briefly mentioned this series during my podcast interview with Sarah last year. Set within a football-loving university in Texas, this book features a romance between a player and the coach’s daughter. SCANDALOUS! Readers have praised the writing, though some found it a bit young for their tastes. It has a 4-star rating on GR. And, if you love it and want to read the next one, All Broke Down ( A | BN | K | G | AB | Au ) is also 99c!

In Texas, two things are cherished above all else—football and gossip. My life has always been ruled by both.

Dallas Cole loathes football. That’s what happens when you spend your whole childhood coming in second to a sport. College is her time to step out of the bleachers, and put the playing field (and the players) in her past.

But life doesn’t always go as planned. As if going to the same college as her football star ex wasn’t bad enough, her father, a Texas high school coaching phenom, has decided to make the jump to college ball… as the new head coach at Rusk University. Dallas finds herself in the shadows of her father and football all over again.

Carson McClain is determined to go from second-string quarterback to the starting line-up. He needs the scholarship and the future that football provides. But when a beautiful redhead literally falls into his life, his focus is more than tested. It’s obliterated.

Dallas doesn’t know Carson is on the team. Carson doesn’t know that Dallas is his new coach’s daughter.

And neither of them know how to walk away from the attraction they feel.

I have a question–would it be possible for you guys to link to smile.amazon.com instead of regular amazon in your buy-it links? The links are always the same, just with smile instead of www. I’m trying to get in the habit of using smile.amazon to karmically help balance out the evil of Amazon to begin with, and I’m sure others would enjoy doing so as well.

  2. SB Sarah says:

    @Celia:

Let me look into it, okay? Thanks for the suggestion!

  3. Suzanne says:

Celia- thanks for mentioning Smile Amazon- I’m a user too and often can’t use the links posted on book blogs.

  4. CG says:

    Ditto to Smile.

  5. Joannaw says:

Oh, that would be wonderful! I, too, try to be in the habit of shopping through smile.

  6. Tam B. says:

I read Alex and enjoyed it. It is written in the first person with changing POVs. It was interesting to have a bad boy sports player be in trouble for being an a-hole rather than a “player”.

Whilst the book blurb does mention his alcoholic father, it doesn’t mention her addict father and there is a scene where she describes being abused as a child (not sexually) by him. There is also a remembered scene for him. I’m not sure if it would trigger for anyone but just in case.

  7. SB Sarah says:

@Tam: Thank you for the warning!

  8. Kejo says:

I also use smile amazon for my local ASPCA and with the amount I spend I am sure they can build a new shelter any day now 🙂 but it doesn’t work for kindle books, paper books possibly, but none that I have purchased. But kindle books sadly no.

  9. Susan says:

@Kejo. I, too, was under the impression that Smile didn’t work with most/all Kindle books. But I try to use Smile as much as possible to support a local cat shelter. Every little bit counts.

  10. wkw says:

My experience might be unusual, but I have purchased more than a few Kindle books through smile.amazon, so it’s worth looking in to that. It does help offset some of the evil empire aspects of Amazon.

  11. kejo says:

You can order anything on Smile.Amazon But not everything you order (including kindle books) are eligible for smile donations. It has to say “Eligible for SmileAmazon donation” on the ordering page. They may eventually add kindle books but not at this time are they eligible. You can also check your orders and in the upper left hand corner, it will tell you what order was an AmazonSmile donation.

I always use Amazon Smile. I always look for the “eligible for Amazon smile” logo on my order page.

  12. SB Sarah says:

OK! Thanks to the lovely folks at Wax, all Amazon links hereabouts link to Smile.Amazon.com, so you can click-and-donate to your hearts content on eligible items. The link change should be effective on all Amazon links in the database, too.

    Thank you for the suggestions!

(If you notice any problems, please let me know? Thank you!)
