Varies from year to year, but currently, “An Affair With Mr. Kennedy” by Jillian Stone. Guaranteed to make me smile and make me sigh.
Pride and orejudice
The book that makes me such a happy camper whenever I read it is Romancing Mister Bridgerton. I just re-read it in December and I had a goofy smile every time I returned to the book. It is just so much fun to read and since I am a total sucker for a good friends to lovers story that book is my crack.
Anything Bill Bryson writes, but especially In A Sunburned Country. That book made me fall in love with all things Australia, and always lightens my mood.
At the moment my happy book is Lord Vorpatril’s Alliance/Lois McMaster Bujold, though it trades with Barrayar. Something about Cordelia’s idea of a gift cheers me up.
The Wind dancer seriea lingers on my shelf to snuggle up with when needed.
I love the Tales of the Underlight by Jax Garren… I think I’ve read it like 30 times now.
Frederica by Georgette Heyer
When I was an angsty teenager, it was definitely Beauty by Robin McKinley.
Any of Julie Garwood’s old back list.
Lynn Kurland’s Princess of the Sword. Nothing like elven grandfather’s to brighten the day.
Oh my just about everthing from Julia Quinn makesure my day.
Probably This Heart of Mine by Susan Elizabeth Phillips. It’s always been my favorite Chicago Stars book, probably because I relate best to Molly. When I’m low, I pull it (and other favorites) on Audible and do a reread via my ears 🙂
P. G. Wodehouse Jeeves & Wooster
I’m not much of a re-reader anymore, but it used to be The Secret Garden. I must have read that book a hundred times…
Pretty much anything by Diana Wynne Jones or Terry Pratchett will keep me happy.
i know it’s a play… but reading death of a salesman makes me happy because it’s depressing and i’m just into that kind of thing!
Happybook? Vanyel’s story (Magic’s Pawn trilogy) or Talia’s story (Queen’s Own) by Mercedes Lackey, as they’re both full of ow but full of love too.
Anything by Kresley Cole!
So You Want to be a Wizard by Diane Duane is my absolute favorite book, and my go to read when I’m feeling down.
Depends on what I want to read: SciFi? Any of Lois McMaster Bujold’s Vorkosigan Saga. Fantasy? Anne McCaffrey’s Pern novels (Dragonsinger!) Romance? Pride and Prejudice. Comfort read? Anne of Green Gables.
It’s not strictly romance, but Connie Willis’ Bellwether is SUCH a fun romantic comedy, I keep grabbing to reread whenever I’m dusting my shelves. Georgette Heyer’s Arabella also makes me laugh and I’m completely in love with both Arabella and Mr Beaumaris <3
I just read The Secrets of Sir Richard Kenworthy (although I’m still entering that giveaway, because I’d love a paper copy to match my ebook!), and it made me SO happy, just when I really needed it. Loved it! My favorite JQ book in years (which is saying a lot, because she’s one of my auto-buy comfort authors).
“Sugar Daddy” Lisa Kleypas
I need to cheer myself up, I read a book by Hilary McKay, from her Casson family series. I love these books.
The Wallflower series by Lisa Kleypas, most definitely.
Anne of Green Gables
Any historical romance. But KEW has it all.
A Kiss at Midnight by Eloisa James is my go to book when I feel down.
My biggest comfort/insta-happy read is probably Rising Tides by Nora Roberts (the one with Ethan Quinn and Grace).
I sound like a broken record, but Bet Me is my #1 comfort read. (My comfort watches as the BBC Coupling and Wonderfalls.)
My go-to book is Anne of Green Gables, and has been for nearly my entire life. The nature descriptions make me slow down, breathe and get my imagination going, and Gilbert Blythe remains my favorite romantic hero. Everything about it makes me happy!
Little Women is my ultimate comfort read
Pride & Prejudice
I had to puzzle over this, but I think it’s Agnes and the Hitman by Jennifer Crusie and Bob Mayer. It has yet to get old for me.
pratchett has always been a good bet since college. I just re-read all of the dragon actually books by G.A. Aiken, yelling, crazy warrior women are very awesome.
I’m a huge Diana Wynne Jones fan, so whenever I’m sad, I just pick up Howl’s moving castle, because it will sure improve my mood
Open Season by Linda Howard is one of my favorite comfort reads.
A Wrinkle in Time is still my No. 1 go-to book if I’m not feeling good.
It used to be Rilke’s “Letters to a young poet”, but I’m over the poetry stage of my life, and now I think it’s any of the Karen Marie Moning Fever series books. Actually, scratch that, it’s the last one in the series – Shadowfever. I listened to it again recently and it was amazing.
