  1. Rij says:

The Three Musketeers. Humour, tragedy, adventure, love. Everything is there in one perfect book. I never get tired of it.

  2. Angie G. says:

My go to author for comfort reads is Julie Garwood. The Bride or Ransom are personal faves.

  3. Megan says:

Jane eyre! Surprisingly optimistic at the end…

  4. Amy says:

I love to reread The Blue Castle by Lucy Maud Montgomery

  5. Karen says:

My favourite pick-me-up book? That’s an impossible question! Pretty much anything by Robin McKinley, or Diana Wynne Jones, or Tamara Pierce, or Terry Pratchet (Good Omens especially) or Ilona Andrews. I also like to turn to Loretta Chase, Jennifer Crusie, Nalini Singh and Courtney Milan. So many grat books to chose from – I’m also looking forward to adding to the list from other people’s recommendations!

  6. elianara says:

When I’m down and need a comfort read, I pick up The Vanguard by TA Chase, Snowflakes and Ember by SA Payne or Paksenarrion, the sheepherders daughter by Elizabeth Moon.

  7. Julia aka mizzelle says:

I’d go with Connie Willis’ Bellwether. It’s whacky and very screwball comedy in the corporate world that is strangely still mostly accurate after 10+ years. The fads and technology may change, but not so much how companies think and react. And actually has a romantic subplot so there.

  8. twirlygirl says:

Pride and Prejudice, or a contemporary romance filled with extra crazysauce

  9. Lea says:

    Pride & Prejudice
    And sometimes Desert Solitaire.

  10. Diana says:

Pride and Prejudice, though I second Christine on Anne of the Island. 🙂 Julia Quinn, Eloisa James, and Sherry Thomas (historical romances in general!) also make for great comfort (re)reads.

  11. Abby Dinges says:

Bet Me by Jennifer Cruise is my go to feel good romance read.

  12. Faye says:

Oh, that is terribly difficult. P&P, certainly, and the fluffy comfort of the Bridgertons.

  13. infinitieh says:

    There’s always P. G. Wodehouse’s Jeeves stories…

  14. Michelle DeLeon says:

The Lord of the Rings trilogy is my #1 go-to book

  15. Eliza Evans says:

Welcome to Temptation by Crusie 🙂

  16. Crystal says:

Harry Potter. Once you go through the whole series. It’s just so well-written.

  17. NCK says:

Anyone But You by Jennifer Crusie has never steered me wrong; I may or may not have been responsible for all the damage on the library copy simply from reading it so many times.

  18. Celia Marsh says:

I reread Diane Wynne Jones and Jennifer Crusie when I need to be cheered up.

  19. Stacey Irish-Keffer says:

I love Anne McCaffrey’s Dragonsinger. An old time fave that makes me happy just thinking about it.

  20. Cassandra B. says:

I cycle through a lot of my favorite reads, but top of the list is Hidden Talents by Jayne Ann Castle.

  21. Susan says:

I’m not sure I have a “happy” read. I have “comfort” reads, but that’s probably not the same thing. (Now I’m worried that I’m not happy enough.)

  22. Ashley Morris says:

Bad Kitty by Michele Jaffe. It’s one of the few (possibly only) book that A) made me laugh out loud and B) still makes me laugh out loud when rereading. Even though I’ve already read it multiple times.

  23. Melissandre says:

Looking over at my shelf, I don’t know that I have one clear “happy” book. A few that I am always happy to return to are The Curse of Chalion by Lois McMaster Bujold, the Black Jewels trilogy by Anne Bishop, and Greenwood by Sue Wilson. None of these are particularly happy books, but they are books where happy endings come out of intense struggles.

  24. Julia says:

You know I have a whole shelf devoted to books that make me emote in someway, whether it is uproariously funny, brought me to tears, or made me extremely feel some other emotion. The one book that popped into mind for making me emote with On the Way to the Wedding by Julia Quinn. When I first read it, I liked it well enough and it made me quite happy (mostly because I was harboring a crush for my friend at the time). Julia Quinn books in general make me quite happy.

  25. lisa says:

Anything by Lois McMaster Bujold works for me.

  26. Kareni says:

The book to cheer me up changes with the wind ~ sometimes it’s a Thea Harrison book, sometimes J.D. Robb, sometimes an old Star Trek novel!

  27. Lauren says:

My go-to read is Crown Duel by Sherwood Smith.

  28. Shawny J says:

My go-to read is Daughter of the Forest. Never fails. Also any of the early Night Huntress audiobooks. Tavia Gilbert makes me laugh.

  29. Meg says:

The Blue Sword by Robin McKinley or An Old-Fashioned Girl by Louisa May Alcott

  30. amy says:

Mr. Impossible by Loretta Chase. There’s just something about Rupert and Daphne.

  31. Kelly S. says:

Nearly anything by Jennifer Crusie, Tessa Dare or Jill Shalvis. Probably in that order.

Oh, also, comics, especially Frazz, Sheldon by Dave Kellett, Unshelved, Calvin & Hobbies, or 9 Chickweed Lane.

  32. LaineyT says:

And old school Julie Garwood historical is always good for a smile.

  33. Emily says:

Immortal Highlander by KMM. I love me some highlanders and supernatural.

  34. Kate says:

    Pride and Prejudice, every time.

  35. PSJ says:

Happy Books: To Say Nothing of the Dog. Persuasion. Alphabet of Thorn.

  36. megsan says:

Pride and Prejudice, Sherry Thomas’ His at Night or several of Sarah Morgan’s are my go to books these days

  37. Jennifer says:

Bet Me by Jennifer Crusie always cheers me up

  38. MargaretG says:

Captives of the night by Loretta Chase

  39. Karen W. says:

All books make me happy. 🙂

  40. ML says:

I love Beauty by Robin McKinley. Fabulous book that always makes me sigh.
