Help A Bitch Out - SOLVED!

HaBO: Ye Olde Vampire Romance

You did it! We figured this one out! It is a truth universally acknowledged (by me for certain) that the Bitchery pretty much knows everything, and really, it's true. Scroll down to see the solution for this HaBO - and many thanks!

This request comes from Kaitlyn, who is looking for a vampire romance she read long ago:

Oh, man, hi. I love you guys, you’re the best. I… I need to find a book.

I read this book years ago, but I’ve no idea actually how long ago it was. More than two years, but less than ten and I feel like the book was fairly
new. It was a vampire romance. I know. I KNOW.

And the vampire was Dracula, actual Vlad Tepes Dracula of fame and legend,
who was like, a Romanian history professor or something? And he had to go to
New York, for vampire reasons? I feel like it was something to do with his
brother? Or his bloodline, at least. And also presumably there was a woman,
but I don’t remember her at all.

At the end of the book they’re in a church and Dracula turns into a legit
fire-breathing dragon. And the end was ambiguous. I know that is not a lot
of help: I am only 100% sure of those two facts (ie. actual Dracula, and
turns into an actual dragon).

Do I need to read this book again? No. I’m fairly certain I never needed
to read it in the first place. I’m pretty sure no one ever needs to read
it. But I have to know what it is or I will lose my goddamn mind. I’ve been
wandering in increasingly horrific Goodreads lists of vampire romances,
dragon romances, and the occasional generic supernatural erotic romance.

Please help me, Smart Bitches!

I think there needs to be a lot more justification of action based on “vampire reasons.” Why did you eat all the cake? Vampire reasons.  To say nothing of legit fire-breathing dragon reasons. I need some of those reasons RIGHT NOW. Imagine how much we could get excused!

Do you recognize this book?

I finally know one! It’s Insatiable by Meg Cabot. And it has a sequel.

  2. Michelle G. says:

Agreed! I was going to say Insatiable by Meg Cabot as well. The sequel is Overbite. Love her but I’ll admit, I wasn’t a big fan of either (3 out of 5 stars)

  3. Demi says:

Here I was convinced this was going to be an epic Old Skool romance, but no…it’s a Meg Cabot, wow! Has anyone read “The Historian”? That was a very enjoyable read, also about the “real” Dracula.

  4. Kaitlyn says:

OMG. You’re all right. It’s totally Insatiable. Thank you so much! You bitches are the best!

  5. Darlynne says:

I’m glad the Bitchery identified the book, but I am going to work on weaving “vampire reasons” into my conversations. Priceless.

  6. Abigail says:

Ha! I knew I’d read that one too. Old review behind the link 🙂

  7. Mara says:

@Demi- It made me think of the “The Historian,” too. That was a very satisfying airplane read for me… though it surely would have been improved by at least one fire breathing dragon.

  8. Rebecca says:

Did anyone else think of the old movie “Love at First Bite”? As I recall it’s also a legit ancient vampire who comes to New York – fleeing Soviets because the movie is that old – and gets girl away from her nerdy vampire-hunter boyfriend. Hysterically funny, but also sweet. (Best line – to psychiatrist boyfriend: “Your grandfather’s name was Van Helsing?” “He changed it to Rosenberg for professional reasons.”) Anyway, this sounds fun.

  9. One of the only HABOs I’ve ever known and I’m too late! I liked Insatiable a lot – I thought it was a pretty fresh Sex In the City take on the classic vampire love triangle issues. The sequel got too complicated for me – I liked it, but not as much. Worth reading on a rainy day (which would be every day right now in Seattle … sigh).

  10. cleo says:

Wow, two HABOs, two correct answers in the first comment. Is that some kind of record?

And yes, SB Sarah, I think it’s be fun to bring back the peerage for correct answers on the first comment.

And, now I’m going to do some things, for vampire reasons.

  11. Celia Marsh says:

Insatiable was fun, like all Meg Cabot is. I’d forgotten the details of it, though, so I was guessing the title was going to be a Katie McAllister book.

  12. Lumen says:

I am a newbie and a lurker at that. I just want to say that you bitches (no offense intended) are awesome. I’ve found so many new (some are not so new) reads to give me enough push to visit our local libraries and renew my card (not readily available as e-books). Thank you, wholeheartedly. This might be the first blog that I intend to religiously read every single thing so as not to miss out on any new or old romance books out there, not to mention the posts are pretty hilarious.

When I worked in a bookstore, “The Historian” was my go-to for anyone who was looking for a recommendation after reading “The DaVinci Code.” I swear I got more followers through that than anything else I ever recommended.
