Books on Sale: Assorted 99c Treats

  • Apples Should Be Red

Apples Should Be Red by Penny Watson

Apples Should be Red by Penny Watson is a Thanksgiving-set novella, and it’s 99c. This story has a 4+ star average on GoodReads, and I’ve seen a few people talking about how much they enjoyed it. It features a couple who are older than the protagonists we most often read about (62 and 59), and readers who reviewed it said they laughed themselves silly.

    Recipe for Thanksgiving Dinner:

Start with 62-year old politically incorrect, chain-smoking, hard-cussing curmudgeon.

    Add 59-year old sexually-repressed know-it-all in pearls.

Throw in a beer can-turkey, a battle for horticultural supremacy, and nudist next-door neighbor.

Serve on paper plates, garnished with garden gnome.

    Tastes like happily ever after.

  • Something Secret This Way Comes

Something Secret This Way Comes by Sierra Dean

Something Secret This Way Comes by Sierra Dean is 99c. This book has a 3.8-star average, and is urban fantasy/paranormal. Readers who enjoyed it really liked the heroine and the action of the storyline. However, some struggled with what they saw as character inconsistencies. This is book one, and there are eight books in the series so far.

Some secrets are dangerous. This Secret is deadly.

    Secret McQueen, Book 1

For Secret McQueen, her life feels like the punch line for a terrible joke. Abandoned at birth by her werewolf mother, hired as a teen by the vampire council of New York City to kill rogues, Secret is a part of both worlds, but belongs to neither. At twenty-two, she has carved out as close to a normal life as a bounty hunter can.

When an enemy from her past returns with her death on his mind, she is forced to call on every ounce of her mixed heritage to save herself—and everyone else in the city she calls home. As if the fate of the world wasn’t enough to deal with, there’s Lucas Rain, King of the East Coast werewolves, who seems to believe he and Secret are fated to be together. Too bad Secret also feels a connection with Desmond, Lucas’s second-in-command…

Warning: This book contains a sarcastic, kick-ass bounty hunter; a metaphysical love triangle with two sexy werewolves; a demanding vampire council; and a spicy seasoning of sex and violence.

  • Cinder: A CinderFella Story

Cinder: A CinderFella Story by Marie Sexton

Cinder: A CinderFella Story is a self published novella from Marie Sexton. This story has a 3.7-star average and is a gay retelling of the Cinderella story (if you hadn’t guessed from the title). Readers who liked it loved the sweetness of the story, and the way the tropes of Cinderella are remixed with new meaning.

Eldon Cinder would give anything to see Prince Xavier one last time, but only women are invited to the royal ball. When the local witch offers to make Eldon female for just one night, he agrees.

    One spell.

    One night.

    One dance.

    What could possibly go wrong?

I’ve downloaded the free sample of Apples Should Be Red, but the fact that H and h are in-laws (his father and her mother, of the couple we meet at the very beginning) turn me down.

  5. Vasha says:

I’ve read “Cinder”. It’s definitely cute, if a bit insubstantial.

Google Play is having a big ole cyber weekend sale:

The books CelineB mentioned are price matches to the Play sale. Hopefully the price matching fairies will fly by.

  7. Ellie says:

I highly recommend “Sweet Filthy Boy”. It made me pick up others from the series, which I enjoyed as well. And my favorite scene in “Dirty Rowdy Thing” is one paragraph featuring the hero from Sweet Filthy Boy, describing intimacy with his wife. What an awesome character.

  8. CelineB says:

Thanks, Keslynn! I picked up another book I wanted and somehow didn’t see as a price drop in my Amazon wish list.

  9. Kate says:

The newest Outlander book Written in My Own Heart’s Blood is $3.75 right now!
