Books on Sale: Three Books from Jill Shalvis, Plus a Reader Recommendation

Book Animal Magnetism

Alternate cover - bronzed shirtless man burps a photoshop puppyAnimal Magnetism by Jill Shalvis is $3.99 on sale. This is book 1 in Shalvis' series of the same name. If this cover doesn't look familiar, you might have seen an earlier cover for this book, which I call, “Shirtless man burps a photoshop puppy.” This book has a 4+-star average, and readers loved the humor and the community of Sunshine, Idaho -and the many pets and rescue animals that are part of this series.

Ah, bugger. The price went back up. I'm sorry!!

Sunshine, Idaho, is a small and sunny town—the perfect home for man and beast. Well, maybe not for man, as pilot-for-hire Brady Miller discovers when his truck is rear-ended by what appears to be Noah’s Ark.

As the co-owner of the town’s only kennel, Lilah Young has good reason to be distracted behind the wheel—there are puppies, a piglet, and a duck in her Jeep. But, she doesn’t find it hard to focus on the sexy, gorgeous stranger she’s collided with.

Lilah has lived in Sunshine all her life, and though Brady is just passing through, he has her abandoning her instincts and giving in to a primal desire. It’s Brady’s nature to resist being tied down, but there’s something about Lilah and her menagerie—both animal and human—that keeps him coming back for more…

Book Simply Irresistible - Jill Shalvis

RECOMMENDED: Simply Irresistible is the first book in Jill Shalvis' Lucky Harbor series, and it's currently $2.99. I liked this book a lot – especially the heroine, Maddie, who is a middle sister who is trying to make peace with everyone around her, and to be optimistic and make the best of her situation. The Lucky Harbor series is coming to an end this year, so if you like small town contemporary comedy romance, you might try this one – and enjoy the next 8 books in the series.

Maddie Moore's whole life needs a makeover.

In one fell swoop, Maddie loses her boyfriend (her decision) and her job (so not her decision). But rather than drowning her sorrows in bags of potato chips, Maddie leaves L.A. to claim the inheritance left by her free-spirited mother-a ramshackle inn nestled in the little coastal town of Lucky Harbor, Washington. Starting over won't be easy.

Yet Maddie sees the potential for a new home and a new career-if only she can convince her two half-sisters to join her in the adventure. But convincing Tara and Chloe will be difficult because the inn needs a big makeover too. The contractor Maddie hires is a tall, dark-haired hottie whose eyes-and mouth-are making it hard for her to remember that she's sworn off men.

Even harder will be Maddie's struggles to overcome the past, though she's about to discover that there's no better place to call home than Lucky Harbor.

Book Instant Attraction - couple embracing w white background

RECOMMENDED LIKE WHOADAMNHELL: Instant Attraction by Jill Shalvis is $2.51/$2.99 right now.

This is a book I've recommended countless times, because I love it so much. It is one of my favorite contemporary romances ever. EVER. This was a “Save the Contemporary” selection for the campaign DearAuthor and I used to run, and I still love it when I re-read it. I love the heroine, the hero, the setting, the snowboarding – this is one of those books where, if you ask me about it, my eyes roll back in my head and I make zombie-esque Good Book Noise®.

Accountant Katie Kramer is a quintessential good girl—working hard, recycling diligently, all the while trying to ignore the feeling that she doesn't fit in anywhere. That's all she wants. Well, that—and amazing sex, and the kind of daredevil escapade she can look back on when she's crunching numbers in a dusty cubicle. Which explains why she just took a job in Wishful, California, working for Wilder Adventures and Expeditions. Waking up to find a magnificently built stranger towering over her bed—that part defies explanation…

After wandering the planet for months following a life-changing accident, Cameron Wilder has come back to the only home he knows. Under other circumstances, he might be thrilled to find a gorgeous woman sleeping in his cabin, but now, while he'll risk his body taking clients on adrenaline-drenched excursions, his heart is off limits. Still, Katie's killer smile triggers something deep in his gut… among other places. Showing her how exhilarating it can be to stop balancing her life as if it was a checkbook is the biggest rush he's ever felt—and an adventure Katie's wishing would never end..

Book The Immortal Collection

The Immortal Collection by Eva Garcia Saenz is $4.99 (it was lower over the weekend and the price may drop again).

Recommended by Heather S, this book was a Spanish self-published novel on Amazon Spain's website, and became a bestseller. It later hit bestseller lists in print, once it was published traditionally, and has now been translated into English.

Heather S says, it “features an archeologist named Adriana and a 10,000+ year old man (and his family, all of whom simply stopped aging in adulthood – his dad looks to be in his 40s and is nearly 30,000 years old). I read the sample and … “Oops! Did I click that?” *one-click.*

Prepare to be sucked in and wallow in archeological nerdery and mystery and a story of siblings who want to find a way to create long-lived people and the sibling and father who want to stop them.

When Adriana, a brilliant young archaeologist, accepts a position at the Museum of Archaeology in her hometown of Santander, Spain, she never imagines that her new boss has lived through the history she can only study.

Iago, the charismatic technical director of the museum, is more than ten thousand years old but appears to be only thirty-five. Iago and his family are longevos—people who never seem to age after reaching adulthood.

The ancient family is divided: Iago’s brother and sister seek the source of their longevity in hopes of creating more like themselves, while Iago and his father fear the repercussions of the true Fountain of Youth.

A dangerous game of power and knowledge that has played out over eons becomes even more complicated when Adriana attracts both brothers’ attention—and learns their secret.

Filled with science, history, and passion, The Immortal Collection transports the reader through time and space, from the days of cavemen, through the Roaring Twenties, to the charming plazas of contemporary Spain. Ancient history meets cutting-edge research in this modern love story and sweeping historical saga.

Whatever happened to Save the Contemporary? Is it no longer endangered? Habitat restored?

Where was the “catnip alert” on The Immortal Collection?

I adored The Immortal Collection.  It did read like it was written from a European perspective (as makes sense).  I couldn’t put my finger on it but every once in a while the metaphors and pacing would just strike you as slightly different- slower maybe? or more cerebral?  At any rate, I would say it’s the very best version of the whole 900 year old vampire falls in love with mortal woman.  The age difference and experience gap was explored rather than glossed over.  At no point (at least that I recall) did anyone’s penis twitch.  I am looking forward to the next installment.

A nice surprise to see a Spanish romance novel mentioned here! I haven’t read it, because paranormal romance is not my cup of tea. Eva García Sáenz decided to set the story here, in Cantabria (Santander is just its capital town) I think b/c of the ancient caves that you can find here – UNESCO sites who are amazing. It’d be interesting to see how this novel is received in foreign lands.
