We have a silly crazy giveaway today to celebrate the upcoming release of Jeaniene Frost's Once Burned ( A | BN | K | S ). Because Once Burned features a heroine who can channel electricity, and a vampire hero who can control fire, we're giving away FIRE. Specifically, a fire pit!
Cue me saying, 'FIRE! FIRE!' Also “YES, I WANT S'MORES.”
Alas, no smores or fire for me, but s'mores and fire for you!
The Grand Prize is a 40″ fire pit with a copper fire bowl, a removable screen, and a mosaic tile rim. It's about 65 pounds, it's very pretty, and if you throw some wood in it, you can make s'mores.
S'mores are indeed included, too. The grand prize winner will also receive a gourmet s'mores kit from Recchiuti Confections that includes vanilla marshmallows, bittersweet chocolate and graham crackers.
And since you'll be stuffed from eating s'mores and keeping your feet warm, you can read books! Jeaniene Frost's backlist is part of the prize. The winner will also receive a copy of Once Burned, plus:
- HALFWAY TO THE GRAVE
- ONE FOOT IN THE GRAVE
- AT GRAVE’S END
- DESTINED FOR AN EARLY GRAVE
- THIS SIDE OF THE GRAVE
- ONE GRAVE AT A TIME
- FIRST DROP OF CRIMSON
- ETERNAL KISS OF DARKNESS
One lucky runner up will win Eternal Kiss of Darkness and First Drop of Crimson, and a Recchiuti s'mores kit.
What to enter? Craving s'mores (I so am, holy smoke)? All you have to do is leave a comment with your favorite thing to cook outside, whether it's on the grill, over an open fire, in the bug zapper or inside the hot engine of your car. The grand prize and the runner up will be chosen at random from the comments.
Standard disclaimers apply: Must be over 18 and wearing long pants to win. Void where prohibited. This giveaway is open to international residents, but please note: the firepit is only shippable within the contiguous US, so the firepit giveaway is open to US residents only. However, if a winner from outside the US is chosen, he or she is eligible for an American Express giftcard for an amount equal to the price of the firepit ($300US). I'm not being compensated for this giveaway by Avon or by the Federation of Awesome S'mores. I like s'mores. Any disclaimer issued by me is subject to silliness without notice.
So, let's get fire cooking! You've got 24 hours to tell me what you like to cook outside. Good luck!

Definitely marshmallows. You burn the outside, pull it off and eat it, and then burn it again.
I made s’mores for like 50 people at a party this past year and was declared the grand s’mores master. They are DELICIOUS.
My favorite is ribs cooked on the grill. 🙂
We love to grill big ol’ red deer burgers with toasted buns and grilled/seasoned vegetables and/or corn on the cob on the side! They are mouth watering delicious.
Thanks for the fantastic giveaway!
Good gracious that is a giveaway chock full of WIN! I love Jeaniene Frost’s books and am thoroughly addicted to the world of Cat, Bones, Mencheres, and Vlad.
Favorite thing to grill is probably the standard ‘meat on a stick’. My husband’s people from Africa like to season it with a marinade of vinegar, mustard, fresh garlic and salt. Growing up in Indonesia, we used to eat it with a slightly sweeter marinade. Sate/Satay…FTW. Best when slathered in peanut sauce. nom.
As weird as it sounds, I like to cook pizza on the grill—it gives it an awesome wood fired quality.
I’m outside most nights in the summer trying to grill anything I can (so there won’t be as many dishes to clean!). My favorite meal in the summer to grill is shish kebob. It has everything! Your meat and veggies are all on the grill and you eat it in a pita so there’s little utensil usage! Apparently I need to go get some marinading because that sounds amazing right now.
I make paella on the grill. The fire on the grill heats the paella pan much more evenly than my electric stove, and closing the lid while the rice and clams are cooking makes for a more flavorful result.
Love me some grilling! Come Feb. I start having charcoal withdrawal. The most ambitious thing I ever grilled was a TURKEY, yes a turkey I got on sale after Thanksgiving, thawed in the summer and cooked slowly on my grill. Fabulous and I was eating on that thing for the longest time. Imagine left over smoked turkey in July!
Corn on the cob is probably my favorite thing to cook outside. So easy and so yummy!
Tied for top two favorite grilled items: grilled artichokes drizzled with olive oil and sprinkled with S&P (after steaming for about 45 mins). Yum. Second is grilled sirloin kabobs marinated in a soy/honey concoction. SO YUMMY, esp served with veggie couscous.
Please please please – I would LOVE the fire pit! And I promise to invite friends over to share the s’mores!!
Steak! There is just nothing like a perfectly done steak on a grill. 🙂
My husband’s grilled shrimp. The ingredients aren’t that complicated, but he must be able to channel some yum through his magic hands because I can’t replicate them.
Corn on the cob and hot dogs are the quintessential summer food for me…can’t wait for the weekend
Salmon and summer vegetables. Thanks!
Grilled pineapple. Great on kabobs or on it’s own. Now I’m hungry.
S’mores, of course! My husband wants to try grilling pizza….
We grill everything from veggies to big juicey steaks on the grill all year long. 😀 A beautifully grilled steak with a light dusting of salt, pepper, & garlic can’t be beat.
Classic homemade hamburgers and hot dogs. Can’t wait for the 4th of July!
I love grilled asparagus! But hamburgers or steak are also delicious.
I LOVE doing s’mores, actually, but last time we went camping we made some really nice camp stove sort-of fried bread. It was VERY good. (I was barely eating besides so that didn’t count towards my ONE FOOT IN THE GRAVE, etc..)
Chicken apple sausages from Trader Joe’s. OMG they are yumz.
Shrimp! Basted with some Frank’s hot sauce and butter…
Corn on the cob, fresh-picked, in the husk. It’s delightful!
My husband is the family cook. We have both charcoal and gas barbeques and a smoker. Although his pulled pork is famous, my favorite is his chicken breasts on charcoal with his vinegar based sauce from an old family recipe. We’ve been married 33 years. He 1st made it for me when we were dating on a little grill on the balcony of his apartment. I knew I had a good thing right then and there.
I love roasting red peppers on the BBQ, then peeling and pureeing them into a soup.
We love to make pizza pudgy pies. Or for dessert apple or cherry pudgy pies.
Beef ribs—the big dinosaur bones, purchased from a local rancher—on my new grill. They were awesome and I’m sure the grease on my face was an unexpected bonus.
Although I like a nice grilled steak, grilled vegetables – mushrooms, peppers, but especially zucchini – are my favorite. They are great hot off the grill or on a pizza or in a salad or omlette.
S’mores are pretty great too!
Hamburgers yum!
Always love a good ol’ fashioned burger cooked on the grill. Steak is also yummy. More recently I have been into kebabs.
Thanks for the awesome giveaway!!
Steaks!!! Yummy
My 14 year old daughter makes a broccoli concoction that is simple and incredibly delish – lemon juice, olive oil, garlic, red pepper flakes, salt and pepper. Marinate the florets for as long as you can, throw them in a grill pan, stir them a lot until bits are charred but they’re still pretty crispy, then throw them back in the bowl with the marinade, another squeeze of lemon juice and a sprinkle of salt. It is divine! The family went from having to choke down broccoli once a month to requesting “That amazing thing Mads does with broccoli” 2 times a week.
I like grilled asparagus and I could come up with some sort of impressive, gourmet-sounding thing that probably does taste really good, but quite honestly, my absolute favorite thing from the grill? Hotdogs, a bit charred from being on the fire, with toasted marshmallows afterwards for dessert. For me, nothing says “cookout” quite like that.
Hot dogs over a bonfire on fresh cut sticks. My childhood home was in the woods, can’t you tell?
How about hot chocolate with some Kahlua? Or peppermint schnapps.
Doughboys! Bisquick dough wrapped around sticks, roasted over the fire, and then rolled in melted butter and cinnamon sugar. Tasty!
I love to grill veggies, pork chops and most of all bacon-wrapped stuffed jalapenos – YUM…I also like to grill fish.
Jalapeno peppers stuffed with pineapple cream cheese and wrapped in bacon. ::drools::
To me, there is nothing better cooked AND eaten outside than a hotdog over an open flame wood fire.
Roasted corn on the cob!!
