Once Burned: Win a Firepit. No, Really.

Once Burned by Jeaniene Frost We have a silly crazy giveaway today to celebrate the upcoming release of Jeaniene Frost's Once Burned ( A | BN | K | S ). Because Once Burned features a heroine who can channel electricity, and a vampire hero who can control fire, we're giving away FIRE. Specifically, a fire pit!

Cue me saying, 'FIRE! FIRE!' Also “YES, I WANT S'MORES.”

Alas, no smores or fire for me, but s'mores and fire for you!

FIRE FIRE FIRE PIT!The Grand Prize is a 40″ fire pit with a copper fire bowl, a removable screen, and a mosaic tile rim. It's about 65 pounds, it's very pretty, and if you throw some wood in it, you can make s'mores.

S'mores are indeed included, too. The grand prize winner will also receive a gourmet s'mores kit from Recchiuti Confections that includes vanilla marshmallows, bittersweet chocolate and graham crackers.

And since you'll be stuffed from eating s'mores and keeping your feet warm, you can read books! Jeaniene Frost's backlist is part of the prize. The winner will also receive a copy of Once Burned, plus:

  • HALFWAY TO THE GRAVE
  • ONE FOOT IN THE GRAVE
  • AT GRAVE’S END
  • DESTINED FOR AN EARLY GRAVE
  • THIS SIDE OF THE GRAVE
  • ONE GRAVE AT A TIME
  • FIRST DROP OF CRIMSON
  • ETERNAL KISS OF DARKNESS

One lucky runner up will win Eternal Kiss of Darkness and First Drop of Crimson, and a Recchiuti s'mores kit.

What to enter? Craving s'mores (I so am, holy smoke)? All you have to do is leave a comment with your favorite thing to cook outside, whether it's on the grill, over an open fire, in the bug zapper or inside the hot engine of your car. The grand prize and the runner up will be chosen at random from the comments.

Standard disclaimers apply: Must be over 18 and wearing long pants to win. Void where prohibited. This giveaway is open to international residents, but please note: the firepit is only shippable within the contiguous US, so the firepit giveaway is open to US residents only. However, if a winner from outside the US is chosen, he or she is eligible for an American Express giftcard for an amount equal to the price of the firepit ($300US). I'm not being compensated for this giveaway by Avon or by the Federation of Awesome S'mores. I like s'mores. Any disclaimer issued by me is subject to silliness without notice.

So, let's get fire cooking! You've got 24 hours to tell me what you like to cook outside. Good luck!

Oh boy, I’d cook everything outside if I had that option. Fish, steak, veggies, eggs, kababs, you name it. I suppose my favorite is coffee, though. There’s something about drinking coffee outside while waiting for the rest of your food to finish that’s just fun.

  2. Lindleepw says:

I love it when Daddy smokes some ribs in his smoker. They’re so good I don’t eat them anywhere else, just his. Yummmmmm…..

  3. Miss Grumpy says:

Since I was raised with the belief that barbecuing is a man’s job, I let the men in our family handle outdoor cooking. But looking at the comments I’m thinking I might try my hand at it myself! PS To answer the actual question: I have a thing for maize on the bbq.

  4. grilled eggplant – slice the eggplant, salt it to draw out the moisture, then rinse and dry it. In the meantime, create an herb oil (olive oil with chopped garlic, dried thyme, basil, oregano) that should sit for at least half an hour. Once the eggplant is ready and the oil is ready, brush the eggplant slices with the oil and grill over medium flame until they are crunchy around the edges (or crispy all over if that’s your preference). It’s ridiculously good.

We also do grilled zucchini dressed with soy, ginger, garlic, a little mirin and toasted sesame oil, and finished with LOTS of toasted sesame seeds.

Steak, chicken, pork chops are also all consistent sacrificial offerings to our tummies via the grill.

  5. Sharon Stogner says:

steak baby! medium rare 🙂 what a cool prize and thanks for hosting

  6. Lynnd says:

Pineapple – put a little brown sugar on pineapple and put it on the grill for a wee bit untill all that lovely sugar is carmellized – yummy!

  7. I actually love campfire cooking, more than the grilling version of outdoor culinary activities – I’m a big fan of the many wondrous things you can do with a dutch oven, but my favorite is probably dutch oven biscuits… with lots of honey. That’s not to say I don’t love a good s’more!

  8. Sara Horney says:

I love to roast corn on the cob on the BBQ. Smothered in butter, dusted with steak spice and wrapped in tin foil it comes out so sweet and delicious. I will NEVER boil corn on the cob again.

  9. Jamarleo says:

Marshmellows.  Toast the outside.  Eat the skin.  Then toast again.  Continue until there is nothing left.  For the record, I do know how disturbing it sounds.

  10. Sunshinelvr73 says:

My husband and I like to grill regularly.  Our favorite grilled meal is skirt steak, which he marinates (for a couple of days) in Italian Dressing, corn on the cob, and asparagus.  This meal is a standard for us at our parties as well.  Every one raves about it!!

  11. Katie Ann says:

Marshmallows!!  I found some at the grocery store that are about the size of my fist.  They’re impossible to eat without making a mess, but oh so much fun.

  12. We did brownies at girl scout camp once.  and I’ve done bread in a dutch oven on a firepit before.

Also watched a friend spit roast eggs.  That was kind of epic.

  13. Jeannie S says:

Everything tastes better grilled – but my favorite is corn on the cob – wrap in aluminum foil and they come out tasting amazing.

  14. Jenny Dolton says:

Bratwurst. Traditional German bratwurst on the grill… mmmm…

  15. Amanda says:

I’m simple. A good steak is the best thing cooked on the grill!

  16. Natasha A. says:

    HA this is AWESOME! LOL
I love pie irons when camping! A friend introduced them to me, and now I keep trying to replicate them in my panini press! lol
Bread, some butter on the outside, peanut butter, chocolate chips, marshmallows, anything really, put into the pie iron, and then place in the coals of the firepit! LOVE them!

  17. Brooke says:

Veggie Kabobs and smores!  Soooo goood!

  18. Brandie says:

Zucchini cooked on the outdoor grill is one of the best things you will ever put in your mouth. (Pause for the obligatory “That’s what she said” comment.)

  19. What a coincidence – my favorite thing to cook outside is s’mores!!!

  20. Nathan’s kosher hot dogs – the only way to cook them!

  21. jepeb68 says:

OGM!  I have a firepit on my wish list for this summer.  I SOOOOOOO want to win this.  Then I can cover over the open fire pit my husband and children dug in my backyard.  It would be such a HAPPY day.  Everytime the dog runs through the pit I end up having to scrub dirt and ash out of her coat.  And, even better because I only have two of the books listed.  It’s a win win win!  Ok, now to your question.  I gril a ton so I have lots of favorites.  But, I think my hands down winner is Chicken Under a Brick.  I grill whole marinated chickens until they are crispy (almost burned but not quite).  They are so yummy that my 10 year old asks me to make it!

  22. Jama says:

I like pie iron pizzas, and banana boats with marshmallows and chocolate chips!

  23. Laurie M says:

    Sausages…any kind of sausages….mmmmmm.

In the interest of full disclosure: I am currently wearing a skirt, but would be happy to put on long pants if needed.

  24. Alainala says:

bbq! the bf cuts a roast into really thin slices, marinate overnight in a bbq sauce we found (costco.. cattle boyz or something).. then put a pan on the bbq and cook the slices.. soo good!! and the next day, if you cut the pieces into tiny squares, fry em with some teriyaki sauce, theyre delicious in a taco or on a salad!!

  25. Kgigone1 says:

Pineapple skewers! And also s’mores, of course.

  26. Essie says:

Ooh, this one made me think. I guess I’m going to have to go with salmon, on a cedar plank and covered in lemon slices. Yumm!!

  27. Sierra C says:

S’mores! the kind that take time because they are so gooey the try to fall off the stick! Although second runner up sis grilled corn on the cob <3

  28. Gail Leinweber says:

For several years now the Thanksgiving turkeys have been going on the grill. Leaves more room in the oven for pies.

  29. Nicole says:

    Jaffles…mmmmmm

  30. There’s just something about grilling outside, isn’t there? Fire=awesome. I love my grilled veggies, as long as they don’t fall through to the coals (skewers are the only way). And I do adore my roasted marshmallows. Melty goodness!

  31. buckette says:

    Bacon wrapped scallops. Sooo good.

  32. Jaclyn Davidson says:

Grilled zucchini and yellow squash with olive oil and pepper… makes a great side to a fat juicy cheeseburger. 😉

  33. Turkey burgers made with a little bread crumb, feta cheese, fresh herbs and sun-dried tomato with a side order of s’mores.

  34. Ames says:

    MmMmm… books and s’mores 🙂

I like grilling marinated chicken wings during outside cookouts.  Thank you for the giveaway!

  35. Sarah Wynde says:

Wow, some seriously delicious sounding food in these comments. I’m going to have to try the artichokes and the corn with steak spice. But first, tonight, hamburgers. A grilled hamburger tastes like summer to me, and what better way to celebrate the solstice?

  36. VandyJ says:

Favorite thing to eat outside—roasted marshmallows.  Not a huge fan of s’mores, but love toasted marshmallows.
Really, anything eaten outside is better just because you are outside.

  37. Anna says:

Stew is fantastic when cooked outside.  You just have to be sure to cover the bottom of the pot in liquid dish soap before sitting it on the fire pit so it doesn’t char.

And then, obviously, you have to follow it up with s’mores.  How could you not?!

  38. My favorite is one some friends introduced me to. Potatoes cut into small pieces, mixed with butter, bacon and garlic salt and then put in a foil pocket. Cooked on the grill for about an hour and you have heaven!

  39. Suz_glo says:

Corn roasted in the husk is wonderful!

  40. Julie in AZ says:

Marshmallows cooks to a nice golden brown.  Who cares about s’mores?  Just give me the marshmallows.
