I have a fun and funky giveaway today, so get ready!
Lynsay Sands' Argeneau series has a new book, Under a Vampire Moon ( A | BN | K | S ), and Avon has offered some very fun prizes for you.
Because Under a Vampire Moon is partly about travel to exotic locales (in this case, St. Lucia), the prize is travel and beach themed, and I think the grand prize is really spiffy.
The grand prize is a Baggallini rolling tote bag in steel blue with green trim, stuffed with all of Lynsay Sands' Argeneau books, including:
- A QUICK BITE
- LOVE BITES
- SINGLE WHITE VAMPIRE
- TALL, DARK, AND HUNGRY
- A BITE TO REMEMBER
- BITE ME IF YOU CAN
- THE ACCIDENTAL VAMPIRE
- VAMPIRES ARE FOREVER
- VAMPIRE INTERRUPTED
- THE ROGUE HUNTER
- THE IMMORTAL HUNTER
- THE RENEGADE HUNTER
- BORN TO BITE
- HUNGRY FOR YOU
- THE RELUCTANT VAMPIRE
- UNDER A VAMPIRE MOON
There are also five runner-up prizes: a copy of Under a Vampire Moon and a Lynsay Sands beach ball.
Since I am all about the beach, here's the really tough and difficult question you have to answer: which beach do you think is best for reading? What's the best beach you've ever visited? Share – and we'll all have summer-beach envy together.
The contest will be open from today (24 April) through noon eastern on 1 May. I'll select the winners at random from the comments.
Standard disclaimers apply: I'm not being compensated for this giveaway, not even with spiffy luggage. Void where prohibited. Must be over 18 and wearing a hula skirt (but not a coconut bra – those things look itchy) to win. This giveaway is open to international residents (yay!). Clothing that is itchy is hereby outlawed in my immediate jurisdiction. Action figures and margaritas sold separately.
So, tell me: what beach do you think is the best for reading and relaxing? If you could visit a beach anywhere in the world with a book and no time limit, which would it be?

Any beach in Greece! I LOVE to read on the beach. Once we went to Jamaica with a large group of friends and they all wanted to do was frolic in the water the whole time but I just wanted to read! But I’m really dying to go back to Greece. We went to several Grecian beaches on our honeymoon and it was my first time out of the country. Recently, my husband got me a Kindle Touch (when I wanted a Kindle Fire) and I keep consoling myself with the fact that I’ll be able to read it in the sun on the beach if we ever go back to Greece.
For reading, I like a nice quiet beach away from tourist traps. Some nice ones can be found on the Texas gulf coast. Good sand for walking on or laying out on, soft breezes & plenty of sunshine.
I am rather firmly ensconced in the midwest without much opportunity for travel, so my knowledge of beaches is limited. I only know that I would love a beach with soft, white sand, crystal clear water, beautiful sunsets, peace and quiet, and plenty of drinks featuring umbrellas!
I’ve always wanted to go visit the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. How wonderful would that be? Swimming around with the beautifully painted fishes, crawling out onto a sandy beach, laying under an umbrella and reading until your skin burns? My dream vacation, right there.
i love reading on beaches! while i’d read on any beach, anjuna beach in goa, india is pretty awesome. not too many people, amazingly cheap and delicious indian food served right there, sun, sand and ocean. i’d love to go back with a bunch of books.
Beaches of Hawaii, no contest. How I long to relax in a paradise of pineapples and romance novels…
The tiny beach at Monterosso al Mare on the Ligurian Sea. It was freezing cold when I was there, and it was still amazing. Someday I’m going to spend an entire day there with a beach chair and a book.
A white sand beach on Prince Edward Island. Or Tofino on Vancouver Island. Or a tiny patch of sand on Georgian Bay.
Best beach was this little beach on the coast of Portugal – there were no noisy kids, no one playing volleyball – there were just people laying in the sun, and frollicking in the waves – perfect for my finishing several books that week … sigh, how I miss it.
If money and time were no object – Thailand, with a battalion of books! 🙂
Thanks!

The only beaches I’ve gone to are Tampa and Galveston. I never liked lying down on beach and reading. I loved being around water and finding shells and everything. 🙂 Never liked tanning either.
The best “laying on the beach and reading” beach I’ve been to is in Aruba. Not my favorite destination, and no culture, but perfect sand and water. I must have read 6 books in the two weeks I was there.
I live in central Wisconsin, so any beach that is actually a beach sounds great! Something with comfy chairs and some peace and quiet would be blissful!
I would have to say Hawaii. I was only there once, but I will never forget how amazing it was!
I haven’t been to a lot of beaches but I dream of Brighton Beach in Melbourne, Australia.
Holy awesome giveaway! I am at a permanent ivory color and only burn and freckle in the sun so the only beaches I would hang out at are the kind that require a sweater. I would of course bring my kindle and read as long as possible. Although, bringing a bad full of Lyndsay Sand’s books would be fantastic 🙂
I’m out of practice with beaches but I have friends that live in Long Beach and I’ve spent some time there. I’m also heading to the Caribbean in 5 weeks on a cruise!
The beaches in the Bahamas are great, but honestly I prefer a local beach in Northern NY. The water is warm in the summer and beautiful dunes. A beach towel, book, sunglasses and I’m all set!
I think any beach that has a comfy beach chair or something else to sit or lay on, warm not hot sun, a nice cool breeze and you got an ice tea or something else you want to drink with a view that works for you is the perfect beach for reading. 🙂
I love the ocean but somehow I’ve managed to live most of my life in desert-y, land-locked states. So any serious beach time is an indulgent treat!
I would go back to Kauai. The smell and the sense of calm are wonderful.
The beach in Mauritius is beautiful. There are so many places I would love to go to that I can’t pick one but if I could go anywhere I’d go to Bora Bora, it looks amazing in the pictures I’ve seen.
The Blue Lagoon Island in the Bahamas. The water there was so clear and warm. Up in the shade were lots of hammocks to lay in. I read and napped a day away in one of those hammocks.
I can only dream of a beach. Here in New Mexico, I got lots of sand though. I dream of going to any beach where there is a blue ocean and a cool frosty beverage in one hand and a trashy novel in the other!
Best reading beach is Lincoln city in Oregon all that rain keeps you inside and relaxed 🙂
Even though I been to Waikiki a few times it’s to busy to really hunker in and read lol
Any beach is really great for reading. But the best beach that I’ve been to is Grand Anse in St. George, Grenada. Gorgeous sand, gorgeous water and bars right on the beach. What could be better than that?
I’d go to the beach on San Pedro Island off the coast of Belize. My grandfather used to volunteer there and I visited him once. It’s not the fanciest beach in the world, but the people are so nice, and the diving/snorkeling is amazing (you have to rest your eyes at some point 😉 ).
When visiting Parga (mainland Greece) we went by boat to a little beach. We were about ten people, and filled the beach. Beautiful! I would have loved to spend some time alone there just reading in the sun.
As for anywhere and without time limit, I’d go somewhere in Polynesia.
Lover’s Beach in Mexico! Where else should I read romance?
Barnegat Light beach in New Jersey: Perfect for reading! But the best beach ever has to be in Cahuita, Limon, Costa Rica. I suppose you could also read on that beach, but it’s Costa Rica. Sooooo, my eyes were busy scoping out the gorgeous *ahem* ‘scenery’. ^_^ Best vacation ever!
Greenmount Beach at Coolangatta, Gold Coast, Australia. Fabulous beach, miles of sand (for carefully timed sun worship), rocks (for rockpooling) and lush trees to provide shade for uninterrupted hours of reading one’s favourite authors (such as Lynsay Sands). If one’s eyes need to break from the riveting prose on the page there is the glorious views of nature, such as glistening ocean and occasionally dolphins, accompanied by man made views including Australian Life Savers!! The wafting scent of coffee from a great cafe which is “just there” makes it just about perfect.
I love Newport Beach, Ca. The waves are always crashing, the sand is always welcoming and the scenery is fabulous!
Hammonasset! To be in the contest!
The last beach I sat and read was Seaside FL…beautiful, the one where I want to sit and read is Tahiti, with liquor and hot men.
I am not as well-traveled as I would like to be, but my limited experience has been that the beach on the shore of the wildlife area in North Myrtle Beach, SC is incredibly relaxing for reading. It is quiet, and I spent the day in the sand with a lively book and the sounds of the waves and the birds. If I could go anywhere, I would love to visit a beach in Australia!
The beaches in PEI are fantastic! rust red sand and brisk air, and the smell of salt is everywhere!
My Favorite beach to lay out with a good book is a tiny little private beach in no-where Virginia on the Rappahannock river. It’s surrounded by woods so there is plenty of shade to hide in if I start getting burned (which happens quite easily) and since it’s private you never have to worry about noisy beach neighbors so its easy to lose yourself in the book.
I would love to sit in a hammock underneath two palm trees at Playa Boqueron in Puerto Rico.
I’ve been to countless beaches from Virginia down to Florida. I’ve been to Waikiki, the North Shore, and Barber’s Point on the island of Oahu, just to name a few. I’ve been to the Bahamas and I love Puerto Rico, even though they are the only places the sun has ever managed to burn me.
Each beach has a different essence though. Some are made for playing and showing off swim wear. Some are made for exploring and fishing. As a self-proclaimed water baby (family from an island, born under a water sign, and having always lived within easy driving distance to the shore) I have to say the best beaches to relax are the ones undiscovered by the masses.
The shore line is small, the sand is coarse and rough, the water is too spirited for the casual beach goer, and tourist traps are few and far between. This beach can be found anywhere, if you know where and how to look. If you drive along highway 98 on the Florida Panhandle you can encounter a few gems like these in the areas of St. Marks and Wakulla. Same can be said for the barrier islands of the Carolinas and Georgia.
Best beach to read..Ocracoke, NC. I like that there aren’t a lot of people. I would love the chance to read a book on one of the beaches in Bora Bora.
My best memory for reading and relaxing on the beach was actually in St. Lucia. A cousin was getting married and his bride was from St. Lucia so it was a destination wedding. There were lots of group outings and one day there was a boat trip to a beach for a picnic. It was beautiful. The beach was totally empty except for all of us. It wasn’t a normal beach with sand and sand and water; it was in a cove with trees and rocks surrounding the shore so that it felt super secluded. The water seemed extra blue and everything was peaceful and perfect. I think that’s one of the best types of beaches to visit. One that’s beautiful and peaceful and secluded were you can relax while surrounded by family.
