Hanukkah Day Six: Touchable Hanukkah!

Book CoverSorry for the delay in today's Hanukkah giveaway! I totally thought this went live this morning but it didn't. My bad! Blame all the fried food I've been eating – makes me sleepy!

Anyway, today's present for you from me is a chance to win a Kindle Touch! Yay! All you have to do is leave a comment with the one holiday song you are SO LOOKING FORWARD TO NOT HEARING ANYMORE.

ETA: I goofed! I want to be clear: this contest is for a Kindle Touch 3G with Special Offers! I linked to the WiFi-only model, but it's the 3G/WiFi/Special Offers model. My bad!

Me: “All I Want for Christmas is You,” which for some reason I have heard six millionity times this week, and “Jingle Bell Rock,” which makes my eyeballs twitch.

Standard disclaimers apply: I'm not being compensated for this giveaway. (I have to say, I'm amused at the idea of even asking someone to sponsor all this crazy. Imagine that conversation!) Your mileage may vary. Void where prohibited by law. Must be over 18 and wearing slippers to win. Open to international winners though it is your responsibilty to make the Kindle do tricks for you. Call before you dig. Preheat to 350.

Happy almost the end of holiday music on the radio, and Happy Hanukkah, and oh! Happy Boxing Day!

I am so over the “Baby it’s cold outside” song or as I have heard it called -> the date rape song
As a former retail worker, my trick to hearing the holiday songs over and over was to listen to Bob Rivers and Dr. Demento’s Twisted Christmas and then hum those lyrics in my head. It always left me with a smile and people always asked how I could keep the spirt with all of the rude and grumpy people.

  2. Yvonne D says:

Let it Snow, bad enough that it’s played everywhere repeatedly but my 13 year old has been singing it off key as well. aaaarrrggghhh

  3. Winterb63 says:

Please NO CHIPMUNK songs !! …or the 12 days of Christmas ! That song stresses me OUT !!

  4. hechicera says:

I spent a big chunk of time on Christmas day in an Urgent Care with my son, and measured the slow-passing hours by how many times Jingle Bell Rock and I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus came around again on the PA.

  5. Jingle cats! (the cat group that sings holiday songs)

  6. Beth says:

I cannot wait to stop hearing Last Christmas. I used to love it, until I heard every single pop star sing it!

  7. hannah says:

The Little Drummer Boy because it’s such a morose song.

  8. Brooke says:

I demand that radio stations stop playing “My Favorite Things” as a holiday song.  IT IS NOT A HOLIDAY SONG!  Also, anything sung by Jeff Foxworthy.  blech.

  9. Tara Stearns says:

I’m with you on All I Want for Christmas is You!  It was the first song that popped into my head when I saw your link on FB.  So overplayed.  But, it’s followed up by Dominic the Italian Christmas Donkey – not because of being overplayed, I just can’t stand that song.

  10. Vi says:

The malls are running Jingle Bells and few local songs here constantly. Argghhh! Hopefully, I won’t have to go out for shopping for a few days until after the New Year.

  11. Nora Bear says:

Christmas Shoes is the most mawkish, manipulative song ever. I hate it with a passion.

  12. Eepellet says:

ANY version of “Santa Baby”.  No other song sums up the crass aommercialization of the holidays like that one.

  13. Ana Silva says:

I have to also go with the “All I want for Christmas is you”. It’s not only repetitive and boring but WAY over rated and WAY WAY WAY WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY overplayed.

  14. Judy says:

I will be grateful not to hear “Dominick the Donkey”…..

  15. Erin T says:

I want a hippopotamus for Christmas!! My kids seriously put that song on repeat on their iPods. It is so annoying!!

BTW am wearing slippers. Totally eligable to win. lol.

  16. Kfoster says:

Any Christmas music by Wham! How this sing has become a “classic” is beyond me.

  17. cajuntx says:

“Grandma got run over by a reindeer.” Why, or why does this song even exist?

  18. baysands says:

Grandma got Run Over By A Reindeer… ugh!

  19. Yveva says:

Jingle bell rock. It gets stuck in my head for hours and I loathe the song

  20. Sally says:

    You didn’t mention Kwanzaa. XD

Madonna’s version of Santa Baby. Until I looked it up, I would have never guessed she sang it. Bleh!

  21. jilly fae says:

I have a six year old.  Who is obsessed with the Chipmunks.  I’ll be quite happy not hearing the Chipmunk Christmas Song for another year.

I do not want a hula hoop.  Just saying.

  22. Lenorejago says:

Santa Baby, hands down.  I don’t want to hear that song for at least five years…..

  23. Emkw says:

It is harder to answerv there Singh question this year, because myth singing group sang some of those that Haber bothered meet on three past,  (I think I can say) did a good job. So I an lefty with one that odds probably some folks’ favorite:
    Saved me from “Jingle Bells”

  24. Regina Ross says:

  27. Peaches749 says:

Silver Bells. I thiknk it’s making me crazier. NO MORE SILVER BELLS. Please for the love of all that is good in the world.

  28. joyce says:

I really hate “Have a Holly Jolly Christmas” for some reason. I can’t even put my finger on it.

  29. Tracie says:

Baby It’s Cold Outside. And really any other Christmas song. I’m over it.

  30. Dwndrgn says:

Hm.  I think somehow my original reply went off into the ether.  If it never comes back, here is what I said (and if it does, I’m sorry for the double post):
I’ve avoided all Christmas everything like the plague this year due to a nonexistent budget and depression.  In general, I’m a huge fan of Christmas music and love listening – rarely do I get annoyed by one of the songs unless it is a newer version of an old song that ruins it for me.

However, there is one popular non-Christmas song that I wish would disappear forever and that is Adele’s Someone Like You.  The lyrics give me the squicks and her voice grates on my ears.  I know!  No flames, I know she is loved by zillions but she just doesn’t do it for me.

Also – many thanks to you Sarah and everyone who posts here and shares their love of stories.  I’m always finding fun new authors or learning new things or just having a laugh here.  Thanks!

  31. Velocireader says:

Bela Fleck’s “Jingle Bells.” Love his stuff, but the “throat singing” on that song makes me twitch.

  32. M8888888 says:

All of them, but I guess “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” creeps me out the most. It’s kind of catchy, but a bit too rapey for my taste- kinda like a lot of ‘80s romance novels!!
    Thanks for the giveaway!

  33. Lasjobergg says:

If I never hear The Christmas Shoes again, I’ll die a happy woman.

  34. Maureen says:

I would say Santa Got Run Over by a Reindeer.

  35. Katy M says:

All of them! I have to make sure I have earbuds with me at all times during the holidays because I loathe holiday music so much. I’m such a grinch 😛

  36. Deb G. says:

Twisted Sister’s version of “I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus.” Worst Christmas song ever!!

  37. Nadia says:

    Grown Up Christmas List.  Bleah.

Thankfully, I did not hear the Christmas Shoes even once this year, so my ears did not bleed.

  38. Abby says:

Is there anything worse than “The Christmas Shoes”?  Seriously, i don’t think there’s a worse song than that, and I am so glad that I no longer have to live in fear that it will come on the radio.

  39. Nico Serene says:

Commercials ruined so many christmas songs for me this year. Taking them and putting their own words to them. If I hear “walking in a 4G wonderland” one more time…

  40. Kimberly R. says:

“We Wish You a Merry Christmas”-Like it but heard it waaaaaay too many times!
