Hanukkah Day Seven: Book Buying is Fun!

The madness continues! Today's Hanukkah gift is another $100 gift certificate to the bookstore of your choice! That ought to buy enough books to last you about a week, right? Maybe 10 days?

Just leave a comment with a link or recipe for your favorite snack to eat while you're reading.

My favorite cookie: Chewy Chocolate Gingerbread Cookies, one of the “Best of” from Martha Stewart Living Magazine. A bit more labor intensive than other cookie recipes, but I make them every year as a gift for Hubby, at his request. They are amazing with milk or tea, and a book to read. I cannot wait to find out your favorite snack while reading! Share share!

All the delicious disclaimers apply. I am not being compensated for this giveaway. Void where prohibited, and must be over 18 eating bonbons to win. Animal print pants are always out of control. Substantial penalty for early withdrawal. Any similarity to actual opinions, living or dead, is purely coincidental.

Happy Hanukkah and Merry Christmas and Happy Week Before New Year's! Let's snack!

  6. My favorite snacks for eating while doing anything this time of year (definitely including reading!) are these amazing vegan gingerbread cookies. I’m not vegan myself, but I’ve never found a yummier gingerbread recipe. I substitute maple syrup for molasses and sunflower oil for canola oil. SO GOOD.

  10. Azure says:

Lately I’ve been into something called charnel corn—cheddar popcorn coated in caramel.  So, soooooo good—but so bad for my waistline.  The gym is beckoning…

One of my favs is a special one of my mothers Simple and easy to make,  2 ritz crackers with peanut butter spead between them. Dip in chocolate almond bark that has been melted in a double boiler, dry on wax paper and enjoy!

  18. Carin says:

Favorite snack would be potato chips, especially sour cream and onion chips.  My favorite dessert this season, which I wouldn’t eat while reading, because it is so messy, is ritz crackers with peanut butter in between, and then dipped in chocolate almond bark.  Incredibly yummy!

I have yet to get the recipe out of my aunt, but she makes these delicious, chewy molasses-ginger cookies that I can’t get enough of.  They’re my favorite cookie, favorite snack, and whenever she makes them (not nearly often enough) I take a few to munch while reading.

  24. Kate Yohn says:

One of my favorite snacks is cheese and crackers.  I just adore cheese, and my favorite kind is Cabot extra sharp cheddar cheese.  I am addicted to it.  With crackers, with bread, with apples, by itself – magnifique!

I like to make these cookies for when I get into a reading mood – Thumbprint cookies:

    2 cups of Flour, sifted
    2/3 cup of Sugar
    2 sticks of butter
1 teaspoon of extract that you want: I usually use almond or vanilla.

You cream the butter and the sugar together then add the extract, mixing until well-blended. Then you add the flour, mixing until it is a soft dough. Refrigerate for 2 hrs minimum (enough time to read one ebook!) Then you set your over to 350 degrees and shape the dough into little balls. Press the middle with your index finger and add 1/4-1/2 teaspoon of whatever jam you like. I usually use apricot, orange marmalade, strawberry but I’ve even used ginger or boysenberry jam. Bake 8-10 mins. If you want to dress them up, you can make a glaze with confectioner’s sugar and extract (1 cup confectioner’s sugar to 2 tbsp water & 1 tbsp extract.)

This recipe gives you 30-48 cookies depending on how big you make them.
