Hanukkah Day Seven: Book Buying is Fun!

The madness continues! Today's Hanukkah gift is another $100 gift certificate to the bookstore of your choice! That ought to buy enough books to last you about a week, right? Maybe 10 days?

Just leave a comment with a link or recipe for your favorite snack to eat while you're reading.

My favorite cookie: Chewy Chocolate Gingerbread Cookies, one of the “Best of” from Martha Stewart Living Magazine. A bit more labor intensive than other cookie recipes, but I make them every year as a gift for Hubby, at his request. They are amazing with milk or tea, and a book to read. I cannot wait to find out your favorite snack while reading! Share share!

Happy Hanukkah and Merry Christmas and Happy Week Before New Year's! Let's snack!

Usually, I just like a cup of tea when I’m reading, but if I want a snack…then I reach for homemade fudge, like this one. It’s awesome!

Sunflower seeds.

4. I don’t snack when I read. Even if I intend to eat at the same time, if I get really engrossed in the book, I forget to keep eating.

5. vulcan_girl says:

Flaming hot cheetos.

6. Jill L says:

Mine is sunflower seeds and a diet pepsi

Thanks for the suberb giveaway! <3

8. My favorite snack while I’m reading is Glenfiddich Solera Reserve (15 yr. old) single malt. Sorry, I don’t have their recipe, but my method of preparation is to pour two shots into an appropriate glass, add about 1/4 teaspoon of filtered water and enjoy.

9. Samantha says:

Sunflower seeds. The ones that are already out of the shells. I could eat those things till I got sick.

10. Anna says:

I tried this cookie recipe for Cherry Chocolate Kisses last year at Christmas, and they were such a big hit they’ve become my go-to cookie. Pretty, tasty, and pretty fun to make.

12. Heather H says:

Goldfish crackers. Like the bag I got in my stocking this weekend.

I love the fishes cuz they’re so delicious…

13. Julie in AZ says:

No snacks here. My mom drilled into my head that one must not snack when reading so the book doesn’t end up with dirty fingerprints. Years later I work in a library and see the damage done to books by careless patrons so still stay snackless when reading.

14. ShellyD says:

Haagen Dazs (or however the heck you spell it!) Rocky Road ice cream. Omg sooo gooood!

15. Beckyroo17 says:

Hmmmmm….I have many favorite reading snacks. I love to make hot mulled apple cider or tea to drink and for a sweet, gooey snack I like peanut butter popcorn. To make the popcorn:
Air pop (or microwave) a big bowl of plain popcorn.
In the microwave nuke 1/2 c. honey and 1/2 c. sugar for about 30 seconds. Stir until combined and add 1/2 c. peanut butter and 1/2 t. vanilla. Stir until combined, pour over popcorn, mix and enjoy!

I like to take a book with me and eat lunch here:

17. Robin Bayne says:

Low Carb Egg Custard

4 eggs
2 c. 1/2 and 1/2
1 tsp vanilla
1/8 tsp salt
1/2 c. granulated Splenda

Mix all together and strain into a baking dish. Set dish inside another and fill outer dish with an inch of water. Bake 1 hour at 325, check with cake tester for firmness. Cool. Sprinkle with cinnamon and Splenda before serving.

18. Tamara M. says:

Lately, my favorite reading snack would be a cuppa hot tea and whatever Christmas goodies are on hand…don’t think they’re gonna make it to the New Year at this rate:)

19. My favorite reading snack is chocolate. York Peppermint Patties, 100 Grand bars, M&Ms.

Recipe:

1. Get to store.
2. Select desired chocolate.
3. Purchase the yummies.
4. Get back home and pick up a book.
5. Read and devour your yummy chocolate selection.

20. Yatzy says:

So I normally try not to snack while reading because I don’t want to get food on my books or my kindle, but during the summer I just can’t say no to grapes!

However, here’s a recipe of carrot tahini cake that i love!
1.5 brown sugar, packed
3 large eggs
1/4 c oil
1 cup raw tahini
1/2 c white flour
3/4 c wheat flour
1 tsp baking powder
1 heaping tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 heaping tsp cinnamon
1 tsp allspice
2.5 grated carrot
1.5 walnuts, broken (optional)

mix together wet ingredients (sugar, oil, eggs and then once well mixed tahini)
add in dry ingredients, mix until there are no lumps
fold in carrots and walnuts
2 small bread pans, bake for 45 minutes at 325

21. Brownies. Has to be brownies. I’m newly diagnosed with Celiac Disease but luckily have found Pamela’s Brownie Mix—gluten free, easy to make and there are real chunks of dark chocolate in it. OMG! I took them to a potluck and people loved them.

22. Cheese and crackers are what I like to eat. Salt, fat, a little protein and a smidge of crunch, all in a coupe of bites.

23. clynn886 says:

I like to go for the ice cream-free banana milkshake!

24. MD_uk says:

Fresh fruit, anything I can find in season. No recipe for that 😉

25. jivediva says:

Not eat so much as drink. Cold weather + a good book = hot chocolate time! Often, if I’m feeling lazy it’s just milk and choco syrup in the microwave, but if I feel like putting in the effort this is my favourite recipe: http://www.nigella.com/recipes…

Yum!

26. Cino says:

Unfortunately, I don’t have the recipe, but my favorite cookies are the Girl Scout Samoas! Love them, just brought 3 boxes from my friend’s niece.

27. Sharon M says:

Yum! Those sound fantastic; I will have to check them out. As for my favorite snack, it varies. Currently, it’s Chex Mix.

http://www.chex.com/Recipes/Re…

I prefer it with half the Weat Chex, double the Worcestershire sauce, and minus the nuts, pretzels, and bagel chips. 🙂

28. Steph Schmidt says:

I have to sing the praises of this amazing recipe for bread sticks (few crumbs, easy shape to hold while I’m reading & it makes your hands smell amazing if you like raw dough). Just make sure to half what it calls for salt http://www.foodnetwork.com/rec…

29. Anonym2857 says:

salty peppermint bark! http://tastykitchen.com/recipe…

30. Angie G says:

Dark Chocolate M&M’s…yummy goodness!!!

31. JennEllen says:

I don’t tend to snack so much while reading. If I do, it’s usually something salty and crunchy: chips, popcorn, pretzels. I’m an equal opportunity snacker that way. I do always have me a Diet Coke while reading, though.

32. Mims says:

I like coffee, preferably this Vanilla White Chocolate Mocha from Caribou:

http://www.cariboucoffee.com/p…

33. Joanne says:

Ack, I feel like a Christmas Pudding plus a Fat Latke but I persevere for the sake of Holiday Spirit. But cook no more will I! http://tiny.cc/2d0c2

34. Karen says:

I usually don’t snack while reading because of the dirty fingers issue. I enjoy beverages like coffee, herbal tea (I love the seasonal Celestial Seasonings varieties!), lattes, wine, or whatever mixed drink my husband concocts 🙂

35. MaestraFX says:

Cheddar or pub cheese and cracked pepper and olive oil triscuts.

36. cindy says:

My favorite snack is Trader Joe’s Dark Chocolate Caramels. They are so rich and so chewy that I (usually) only eat one. And they are only 2 points!

37. Courtney says:

I love popcorn as a reading snack.

38. Jennifer M(OR) says:

My favorite snack while I’m reading are pretzel M&M’s. Yum.
