It's the last day of Hanukkah, and the last day of our week of giveaways. WOO! Are you a little overwhelmed by the nonstop partay? I am!
The final gift I have for you is an 8GB black iPod Touch, suitable for reading many, many things, like books! Yay books!
To enter, just leave a comment and tell me the best book you read this year. Easy, huh? Just one book. Heh heh. If you're like me, this type of question makes your brain go all jittery.
No, it does not have to have been published in 2011. It could be from 1911 if you'd like, or earlier!
Standard disclaimers apply: I am not being compensated for this giveaway. In other words, I have not been paid (*snrk*) an 'insertion fee' (splutter) for this promotion. (Oh, gosh, few things make me snortlaugh like the term “insertion fee.”) Your mileage may vary. Void where prohibited. Open to those 18 years of age and older driving tractor trailers with the windows down. International entries welcome. Word hard at what you do and be kind.
So let's build an almighty best-of list, and share the good reading we've enjoyed. Happy Hanukkah, and Happy Holidays to everyone!

Well, I had three best on my official list, but I’ll vote for Marie Sexton’s Song of Oestend as I was unable to put it down to the point that i was cooking while reading!
I guess best book that I read for the first time would have to be Gabaldon’s Outlander (I read the whole series this year, and loved them all, but I think I like the first one best). But now I’m rereading the Vorkosigan books for the gazillionth time, and they’re making me so happy (for the gazillionth time) so those are probably the best books I’ve read this year (and most other years 🙂 )
Probably Monsters of Men, the last in the Chaos Walking trilogy, by Patrick Ness.
The one that pops immediately to mind is Heart of Steel by Meljean Brook but really I could build a list a mile long 🙂
Hands down “Magic Slays” by Ilona Andrews. Love Kate and Curran.
One of my favorites this year was Hounded by Kevin Hearne. Actually all 3 in the series are faves 🙂
JJust one is hard and some of the great books were nearly a whole year ago. But Unveiled springs to mind.
The contemporary Yours To Keep by Shannon Stacey.
I read Wuthering Heights for the first time this year and now I’m obsessed.
Oh, time to hit Goodreads and look up what I’ve read this past year. It’s so hard to pick a favorite! I guess I’d pick a Kresley Cole one – I loved the whole IAD series which I read twice this year. Demon from the Dark was probably my favorite.
I would have to say the best book I read this year was “Magyk” by Angie Sage. It’s a Juvenile Fiction book and it was just delightful. It’s part one in the Septimus Heap series.
My favourite in 2011? It’s really harsh that we’re only allowed to name one! I say: Iron King from Julie Kagawa.
Best book I’ve read this has to be A Dog’s Purpose.

Second best was Emory’s Gift by the same author.
Agh! Do you know how long this took me to decide? Fortunately I had already pondered it, as the same question was asked at my favorite discussion board. I would say “Queen of Swords” which is part of the Wilderness series by Sara Donati.
I think.
Divergent by Veronica Roth. It is a dystopian YA, but v. HOT. And a very past paced story. Dare I say better than the Hunger Games?
I gotta say Freedom and Necessity, by Steven Brust and Emma Bull. Talk about your intelligent-and-badass heroines and sexy-but-damaged men, oh yeah.
If I had to pick one it would be When Beauty Tamed the Beast by Eloisa James.I read a ton and since I’m on a historical kick lately, you can’t go wrong with Eloisa James 🙂
The Good Thief’s Guide to Amsterdam by Chris Ewan. Not a romance, but hope it still counts.
I would have to say that it was probably Archangel’s Consort.
However, I loved Archangel’s Blade, Fate’s Edge, Heart of Steel, Spider’s Revenge, and Drink Deep, too!
Favorite book of the year would be Soulless by Gail Carriger. So far I like the whole series.
Picking one is too hard, so I’m choosing Lois McMaster Bujold’s “Cordelia’s Honor,” which is actually two books: “Shards of Honor” and “Barrayar.”
I am late to the game on this series but the Aisling Gray series are the best books I’ve read this year. Snorted laughing while reading and hubs thought I was loosing my mind.
The Black Hawk by Joanna Bourne
elizabeth hoyt’s scandalous desires—fab read!
so hard to choose but the Temeraire series by Naomi Novik certainly tops the list
I’m torn between two very different books: Connie Willis’ “To Say Nothing of the Dog” and E.L.James “Fifty Shades of Grey”—- can’t pick one!
Mindy Kaling’s novel was probably the funnies, and I agree w/ Rij, the Attolia series by Megan Whalen Turner is the shit.
I have issues with trying to pick a favorite but I’ll go with Magic Slays by Ilona Andrews.
I enjoyed re-reading Sharon Shinn’s Samaria books pretty much ever year, but I just cannot choose one book among the series.
fiction would have to be Monster by A. Lee Martinez. Off the wall, kind of cracky, supernatural story in a vein of Good Omens. Bought it on a whim (for like $4 at B&N) and could not have been more entertained.
The best book…oh my, the choices are endless, but I think one of the top is Pleasure Me by Monica Burns about an older (42) courtesan who gets dumped by her protector and a younger lord who has never had sex because of a physical deformity (one gonad). He doesn’t think any woman will want to have sex with him without being turned off so they make an alliance to protect each other with the provision that they never have sex. She is naturally confused about this and sets out to seduce him. You can imagine the outcome. A well written book that teared me up. Love Monica Burns.
It hard to pick one,but I finally read the Hunger games trilogy and found those to be some of the best books I’ve read, so I’m sticking with those!!
I loved The Iron Duke as well.
Since i have been in school i have been rereading julia quinn books
No, no, no. Not possible to name just one. But, how about this? I just finally got around to reading Patricia Briggs and I’m loving it. While I’ve enjoyed all that I’ve read so far, I was really taken by the alpha omega series—so, I’ll say Cry Wolf. Though perhaps I should say Like No Other Lover by Julie Anne Long because that lovely. And, well, Courtney Milan, Joanna Bourne, Sherry Thomas (swoon) . . .
Darknesss Dawns by Dianne Duvall
Although it wasn’t a favorite of reviewers my favorite romance book this year was Anne Mallory’s In Total Surrender.
Oooh, tough! But I think I have to second Dragon Ship, as it led me off into Lee/Miller re-read land, and inspired me to buy all the books and short stories in yet another format!
Nalini Singh’s Kiss of Snow. I went into it worried that it would be a let down from the build up and was absolutely wrong in that concern.
What I Did for the Duke by Julie Anne Long.
Renewed my flagging love for trying out new authors. Looking forward to her newest that came out yesterday.
