Hanukkah, Day Eight - More Touching Reading!

Book Cover

It's the last day of Hanukkah, and the last day of our week of giveaways. WOO! Are you a little overwhelmed by the nonstop partay? I am!

The final gift I have for you is an 8GB black iPod Touch, suitable for reading many, many things, like books! Yay books!

To enter, just leave a comment and tell me the best book you read this year. Easy, huh? Just one book. Heh heh. If you're like me, this type of question makes your brain go all jittery.

No, it does not have to have been published in 2011. It could be from 1911 if you'd like, or earlier!

Standard disclaimers apply: I am not being compensated for this giveaway. In other words, I have not been paid (*snrk*) an 'insertion fee' (splutter) for this promotion. (Oh, gosh, few things make me snortlaugh like the term “insertion fee.”) Your mileage may vary. Void where prohibited. Open to those 18 years of age and older driving tractor trailers with the windows down. International entries welcome. Word hard at what you do and be kind.

So let's build an almighty best-of list, and share the good reading we've enjoyed. Happy Hanukkah, and Happy Holidays to everyone!

IIve re-read the entire Demonica series 3 times because I love it that much!!!!!!

  2. mom2handh1975 says:

The best book I read this year was Shadowfever by Karen Marie Moning.  I was really sad to see the series end, though.  Now I’m anxiously awaiting Lothaire!

  3. misskleio says:

My favorite book of the year isn’t a romance, but is ‘My Parents’ by James Roosevelt. He was kinda “rambly” as a writer, but it’s full of so much interesting information about FDR & Eleanor Roosevelt.

  4. Sarahtq says:

Best book I read this year was a debut novel, Gabriel’s Inferno. I think I need to go back and read it and while I’m at it read Dragonbound also.

  5. Tif says:

I finally read “Lord of Scoundrels” which I LOOOOVVVEEEE.

Other than that, I think my favorite book(s) have to be Maya Banks’ Highland Trilogy.  I cried during Alaric’s book and I don’t cry when I read.

  6. Meghan says:

Best book I read this year…<brain explodes=”“>…was the Hunger Games?  I heard there was some romance in it so I read it in one sitting (er…lying down in bed at night with eyes burning) when I should have been asleep.  At 4:00 am I was blissfully happy: amidst all the gruesome action/adventure, my romance quest had been rewarded.  </brain>

  7. lolaLop99 says:

I generally don’t go for historical romances, but I LOVED Last Night’s Scandal by Loretta Chase. I might even read more of her novels.

  8. My favorite book that I read this year was a YA title.  The Gossamer Sphere by Melissa Conway.  I actually read 3 of her books & they were all good.

  9. Sherdnerd says:

My favorite book this year is Fallen by Karin Slaughter.  I just re-read it – for the fourth time.

  10. Stephanie T says:

Probably Darkfever (and all its sequels).  Those books ruled my life for a time!

  11. Brenda Hyde says:

Dammit—jittery is an understatement—my brain has seizures when asked to name a book. BAHAHAHAHAHAHahA

I’m going to go with The Iron Duke by Meljean Brook—it’s steampunk, it’s sexy, romantic and I loved it more than I thought I would—plus that cover is da bomb!

  12. Atiba40 says:

Best book read this year –
Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor. Can’t wait for the next in the series. Happy holidays! Zulma

  13. Erin Faulk says:

I read The Gunslinger ( and the rest of the Dark Tower series) by Stephen King. Best books I’ve read in years.

  14. Sarah Jean says:

This question was actually easy for me (It almost never is!)

Mastiff by Tamora Pierce – the third in the Beka Cooper Trilogy!!!!!

  15. If I had to pick just one, then Hold Me Closer, Necromancer by Lish McBride

  16. Laura Broussard says:

I have read many, many, many books this year but one I’ve read before and enjoy reading again and again is Somebody’s Baby by Charlotte Vale Allen.  Very good book!

  17. Kimberly C. says:

The Iron Duke by Meljean Brooke.  Loved it!

  18. Jennifer Gardner says:

I recommend “A Discovery of Witches” by Deborah Harkness. It’s her debut and it’s fanf***ingtastic. To sum up I’d say it’s a vampire story for academics, meaning maybe Twilight for people with brains. Only even better.

  19. Lora Patten says:

Yes, this question makes my brain go all jittery considering I have read well over 500 books this year and I don’t think I read any books more than once.  Ones that stand out are Heaven Is For Real- Todd Burpo, Outlander- Diana Gabaldon, The Lost Duke of Wyndham- Julia Quinn, and I could go on half the day…  If I HAD to narrow it down to one then I am obliged to say undoubtedly the Bible.  Happy New Year everyone!

  20. KatieM says:

Bitten or Industrial Magic, both by Kelley Armstrong.  Really anything in her Otherworld Series.  Those are some of my goto books when I’m in a slump.  The stories stand alone but they take place in the same universe.  Just Awesome!

  21. Kathleen O says:

Would have to be The Help…. I think this book was so riviting and funny at the same time…

  22. The Last Hellion by Loretta Chase… or Unclaimed by Courtney Milan, which I wouldn’t have read except for the book club <3

  23. I’m currently reading Just Surrender by Kathleen O’Reilly (sp?) The last book I finished was a novella, An Imprudent Lady by Elaine Golden.

  24. Jessica Kennedy says:

Graffiti Moon by Cath Crowley—amazing read. I also loved Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi.

    Thanks for the giveaway!

  25. Michelle says:

I love reading all the comments here to pick up new book recs.  My top pick of the year is Dragon Bound by Thea Harrison.  (I fully expect to see this title in DABWAHA 🙂

    Michelle (@Antinmitchfield)

  26. Rowenamayo says:

Kiss of Snow by Nalini Singh.

  27. Aphasia says:

I can’t honestly answer that question—one? all year? All I can do is pick a book I liked a lot, and even that… um, I think Cloud Atlas. Favorite relevant tot his site; the most recent Eloisa James, always. I just love her—which reminds me, she has a new one, and I can go buy it!

Though, sadly, not today, as my major metropolitan city no longer has a single store where one can buy new romance novels. Seriously. I live in San Francisco, and to buy this book, I will have to wait until next time I cross the bay to Oakland. Strange times for bookstores, and weirder here than most places, where the independent stores are still holding on, and the chains have folded.

So that was rambling! Happy new year, all.

  28. Well, the last amazing book I read was The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern.  It was fantastic.

  29. Tara Stearns says:

Favorite by far – Until There Was You by Kristan Higgins.

(Sorry if this is a duplictae – I could not locate my original entry).

    Thanks for the contests!

  30. Deana Stom says:

This year I discovered The Lord of Scoundrels, by Loretta Chase.  Definitely my best new find of the year!  I have not yet read the rest of this particular series, but am definitely looking forward to it!

  31. Diane/Anonym2857 says:

Lord of Scoundrels re-read is the first thing that came to mind.  I’m SURE I read some new books that were great, but apparently they are filed further back in the grey matter. 😛

    Diane

  32. Skmichigan says:

Best book I read this year was The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern.

Thanks for the chance to read this on an iPod Touch!!

  33. Fadeaway_213 says:

I know this is over but I still felt like sharing 🙂

    Spider’s Revenge – Jennifer Estep

The whole series is absolutely fantastic! A close second though is the Kate Daniels series by Ilona Andrews

  34. Stacia says:

Ooh, I am late on this one.  This has been a big short story year for me, but of the handful of full books I read, I’d say Solitary Star by Rich Wiseman was the best.  Some flaws, but it’s the first bio in years that hasn’t driven me crazy with some kind of semi-hidden bigotry on the author’s part.
