Hanukkah, Day Eight - More Touching Reading!

Book Cover

It's the last day of Hanukkah, and the last day of our week of giveaways. WOO! Are you a little overwhelmed by the nonstop partay? I am!

The final gift I have for you is an 8GB black iPod Touch, suitable for reading many, many things, like books! Yay books!

To enter, just leave a comment and tell me the best book you read this year. Easy, huh? Just one book. Heh heh. If you're like me, this type of question makes your brain go all jittery.

No, it does not have to have been published in 2011. It could be from 1911 if you'd like, or earlier!

Standard disclaimers apply: I am not being compensated for this giveaway. In other words, I have not been paid (*snrk*) an 'insertion fee' (splutter) for this promotion. (Oh, gosh, few things make me snortlaugh like the term “insertion fee.”) Your mileage may vary. Void where prohibited. Open to those 18 years of age and older driving tractor trailers with the windows down. International entries welcome. Word hard at what you do and be kind.

So let's build an almighty best-of list, and share the good reading we've enjoyed. Happy Hanukkah, and Happy Holidays to everyone!

  4. Zohar says:

I have to say The Hunger Games. But it certainly is hard to choose just one!

  5. Emily says:

Agnes and the Hitman by Jennifer Crusie and Bob Mayer

  6. Willaful says:

I’m going to go with Revealed by Kate Noble. It had such amazing characters. And it’s the only library book I read that I immediately had to go out and get my own copy of.

  7. For this year, my fav book was Hard Bitten by Chloe Neill…. the end of the book just made my blink at what happened…then tear up, one of the peeps that have been there in all of them dies… and i liked them, my tearing up ended quickly when my co-workers were giving me strange looks… i’m just glad she came out with the next book in 6 months. =o)

  8. That’s easy! Shadowfever by Karen Marie Moning was the best book I read in 2011. Two best HRs were The Black hawk and Silk is For Seduction 🙂

  9. M8888888 says:

I’d have to go with Kiss of Snow by Nalini Singh. I love the series and had a hard time waiting for Hawk and Sienna’s story and I wasn’t disappointed!

  11. The best book I read this year was The Help. I couldn’t put my Kindle down.

  12. To my surprise the book I liked the most this year was World War Z by Max Brooks. And I am not a horror/zombie fan at all. But this book was like a really great war story which I used to like in my teens.

  13. Monica says:

Best book i’ve read all year?

SIGH so hard, I’ll go with Flat-Out Love – Jessica Parks

orrr honorable mention Discovery of Witches – Deborah Harkness!

  14. Loulou says:

    Reckless by Anne Stuart.

  15. Beth LaSasso says:

The book that swept me in and held me tight was Karen Marie Moning’s Darkfever.  I immediately had to read each book in the series, and didn’t accomplish anything for a week!

  16. c.skipper says:

I LOVED What I Did For a Duke by Julie Anne Long.  Great plot and very humorous

  17. Anony Miss says:

Animal Vegetable Miracle by Barbara Kingsolver

  19. junou says:

Kiss of Snow by Nalini Singh!

  21. Baysands says:

As usual, one of my faves this year was a reread of Judith McNaught. Either Paradise or Perfect… love them both!

  22. MoRealtor says:

Gone by Michael Grant. It’s not a romance novel. It’s a series, wonderful.

  24. Judy says:

    Discovery of Witches…

  25. Eli says:

OMG not just jittery but just plain drawing a blank!  But then I jumpstarted it again with lots of caffiene and sugar and landed on the best on this year for me.

The Winter Sea – Susanna Kearsley, Sourcebooks, Inc.  Pub 12/1/10

I typically do not like historical romance but this was a wonderful story based on a historical event and Kearsley’s gift for storytelling is clear right from the first few pages.  I probably read over 100 books this year but this is one I would recommend to anyone.

    ~Eli

ps. Loved the rant on breast feeding and NASCAR

  26. hruthie says:

The Iron Duke by Meljean Brook – because I’d love for my beloved to change the world for me

  27. Patti D says:

I love twisty, turny, “oh-wow-out-loud books so I am going with They Key Trilogy by Nora Roberts. Thank you for this opportunity-my goal this year was to be reading on one of these bad boys since last year…I shall carry on this dream…Happy New Year everyone! Let’s turn 2012 on it’s ear!

  28. So many!  Dragon Bound by Thea Harrison, Magic Slays by Ilona Andrews, Crave by JR Ward are the first three that pop into my head….
    Thanks for the giveaway!

  29. Crisopera says:

Not romance, but – Parisians: An Adventure History, by Graham Robb.  Not a regular history book, but each chapter treats a person (or two) who had an influence on Paris (Napoleon losing his virginity at the Palais Royale, Marie Antoinette getting lost on her way to try to escape the revolution, etc.)  And I was astonished to learn that The Count of Monte Cristo was based on a true story!  Great book – each chapter is in a different style.  If you love (or even like) Paris, this is a wonderful read.

  30. Socaltree says:

I waited on pins and needles until “Shadowfever” by Karen Marie Moning then read it in one day!  Definitely ADORED this book and it was the book I wanted to read most this year.  Characters to die (and live) for!  Action packed!  All in all a keeper (so that I can read and re-read it for years to come)…

  31. I can’t deny it, it was The Hunger Games.  Judge if you will, I understand!

  32. Trudigen says:

My favorite book is part of a Jo Beverly series! I think it was Hazard but I am not sure! The main character is a blonde alpha male that to this day I can picture in my head and I read the book 3 years ago! He is a brawny blonde masking as a highwayman and what a hunk he was described as!

  33. Abby says:

Easily Nine Rules to Break When Romancing a Rake by Sarah MacLean, which I read on recommendation from you all.  EXCELLENT CALL!

  34. Suz Glo says:

I discovered Kaki Warner’s books in 2011. I can recommend them all!

  35. Jae_Lee says:

If forced, I would have to say Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor. Thinking about how long I have to wait for the sequel is giving me heart palpitations. A really, really close runner up is Ready Player One by Ernest Cline (for the nerd p0rn).

  36. museredux says:

Ishiguro’s Never Let Me Go. It’s stays with me the same way Jane Eyre does.

  37. Hdw1977 says:

I got to reread The Secret by Julie Garwood and fall in love with it all over again

  38. olivia says:

I just adored Eloisa James, Winning the Wallflower.

  39. R.S says:

The best book I read this year was “Magic Bleeds” by Ilona Andrews. Loved the whole series but this book was amazing.

  40. Flo_over says:

Oh tough one… I’d have to say the one that made me itch the inside of my skull the most was “The Neon Court: or the Betrayal of Matthew Swift” by Kate Griffen.  All her Midnight Mayor books seriously leave me feeling like I ran a marathon in my head but so so so very satisfied (in a nerdly wordly way) that even though I’m exhausted I’m mentally delighted.
