To celebrate Georgette Heyer’s birthday, Sourcebooks has put their entire digital collection of Heyer novels on sale for $1.99. NICE. Ready to shop? Hope so!
I struggled recently with The Grand Sophy, which I read last week, but Heyer’s books are, unquestionably, quite a legacy to the romance community. $1.99 is quite a nice price, too. The books should be at this price from 15-21 August at most major e-retailers, though sometimes there is a delay with switching the price. You may have to check back.
Here’s a comprehensive list for you. I’ve tried to find links to many major retailers whenever possible.

As a minor FYI, I believe that there were editions of
“The Grand Sophy” which softened somewhat the scene in question.
@AgTigress I don’t think what I wrote came out right. I like the fact that Heyer has cousins marry – it’s historically accurate, and she makes it work, but as jocelynnesimone explains, marriage amongst cousins definitely counts as incest in the states (and of course it used to be more common here as elsewhere). It’s still a thing that squicks people out, which I get, but I choose to believe that it, along with anti-semitism and accurate coach times, is just part of Heyer’s commitment to her research. I find it tiresome that most characters in historical novels have such modern attitudes.
@DreadPirateRachel
I meant pretty much what LizW65 said – many people have a problem with A Civil Contract not being a ‘proper’ romance. I don’t recall it being problematic in any other fashion – and I agree, I quite like it, it’s just not one I’d recommend for starters.
Just fyi: Apparently, there are quite a few states in the U.S. where first cousins can marry (and many of those don’t require genetics couseling or that the woman no longer be able to have children).

Some light, fluffy enjoyable Heyer novels are Frederica, Arabella, and The Grand Sophy.
My personal faves are These Old Shades, Devil’s Cub and An Infamous Army. They’re part of the same fictional universe and family, in that the male hero of Devil’s Cub (Dominic Alastair) is the son of the romantic couple (Justin and Leonie) in These Old Shades, while the female protagonist (anti-heroine) is the grand-daughter of Dominic Alastair.
I saw this, immediately emailed my Aunts who hooked my on Heyer and then got on Amazon.
The price has gone UP! For me in my lowly geo’ area of Australia the price has gone from around $8 to $9.99 across the board. Did Amazon decide to celebrate by making more money?!? They get enough of my credit card statement as it is!
When are the publishers going to realise that by restricting things to certain territories only encourages pirating of titles to get around them.
Oh dear! 🙁
I rushed off to buy these, and replace my pirated E-copies (the paperbacks are all falling to pieces) only to find, once again, that they can only be bought by people in the USA.
Is it suprising that I have pirated copies of ebooks when no one will take my money for legitimate ones?
After trying Amazon, and not only getting slugged with the “you don’t live in the US any more” premium, in addition to several books being unavailable to Australian customers (what the copyright holder has issues, but only on certain books) I did pay a vist to AllRomance, which does seem to be offering these at $1.99 to us overseas suckers.
But, I haven’t actually gone so far as to try to buy yet, so it may be different once you reach checkout. Also, they appear to be DRM’d and I own a Kindle. Painful
At that point, I will have to ask my husband to assist, who will go and find the pirated copies instead (he heard me whinge about Amazon last night), because it is less work to do so.
Newsflash to publishers- when it is EASIER to pirate than buy an item, guess what people will do. Particularily when you charge an exhoritant price, that is fairly obviously so. Didn’t the music industry already learn this very painful, very expensive lesson?
Y’all,I am so sorry that the deals do not apply across every border. I wish there was a way for me to check that. My apologies.
Where, oh where did Doc Turtle go? I really enjoyed his reviews and perspective.
Amazon now has Sylvester for free. Maybe compensation for having it overpriced yesterday?
I wouldn’t be surprised if the Aussie rights are tied up with the UK rights which are held by Random House, not Sourcebooks.
It’s gone back up to $9.99
@Sarah
There is absolutely no reason or need for you to appologise.
I was just very excited to see your post, and then very disapointed to realise that I couldn’t buy them, and needed to vent somewhere!
I shall take my ire off to re-read my nice legal e-copy of Witches Abroad instead.
has anyone found a copy of the Unknown Ajax that is on sale? It seems like they missed this one. And it is one of the best.
Although – cousins marry (actually this is another where they are raised so completely separately that it doesn’t trigger my squick-alert).
Just a quick update, today is the 26th and a lot of the titles are still on sale, just in case you were thinking you had run out of time.
