Hanukkah, oh Hanukkah, we’re rocking out for the second night of Hanukkah!
To continue the festive merriment to celebrate reading, both paper and digital, I have a collection of historical romance with some historical fiction mixed in.
All you have to do to win is leave a comment, and I’ll select a winner each day. These contests are open to international winners, and I will do my best to ship this week, provided people send me their addresses promptly.
Standard disclaimers apply: I’m not being compensated for this giveaway. If anything, my gift is exceptional support of the United States Postal Service (Happy Hanukkah, US Mail Carriers!). Jewish people eat jelly donuts, known as sufganiyot, on Hanukkah, which is stone cold awesome. Double knots are best for tennis shoes.
Ahoy! Contest the second!
On the Second Night of Hanukkah, Smart Bitches Gave to Me: A massive selection of historical romance!
Just leave a comment below, and tell me which one you’d read first, or which one you’d give as a gift, and you’re entered to win. Comments close in 24 hours, but fear not, there’s another book – paper or digital – giveaway coming soon. Because Hanukkah lasts for eight crazy nights, and I have not yet eaten enough sweet potato latkes.
Happy Hanukkah, and Happy Reading!

I haven’t read any of these books, so they would be most welcome on my bookshelf…..and after I’d read them, I donate each one to my local library, which is facing cutbacks and has announced that they will not be buying as many books in the coming year.
The book I would read first would be Seven Nights to Forever because of the very compelling review I read here!
Now I’m hungry for latkes. With applesauce.
I’d read the Enoch title first, purely for most unusual cover of the bunch and creative use of parasol.
I’d definitely start with the Sarah MacLean!
i would read His Christmas Pleasure first, because I love me some Christmas romances, and I’d gift A Kiss at Midnight because I loved it so much I already bought myself a copy!
I’d read Organzasm first, although if it didn’t grab me immediately I’d switch to the Caroline Linden, because I’ve been dying to read one of hers ever since her poem in the comments. I’d offer them all to my mother-in-law but since she probably already has any that she wants, I would probably donate all of them to the NYPL after having read them because there is a household moratorium on additional books. And the NYPL has an unsatisfactory collection of romance, so they need help, even if they have taken to shelving romance in a totally unacceptable fashion at the mid-manhattan branch and thus don’t really deserve it.
Oh! So many are on my wishlist, I don’t know. Maybe Seven Nights to Forever since I really enjoyed The Lady’s Companion. Happy Hanukkah!
Rules of Engagement looks sooo fun so I would read that one first… and I am in between nursing school semesters so I would probably read all of them to get my fill of non-nursing reading in over the holidays! I have missed reading for fun this semester!
I would definitely read “A Pirate’s Possession” first, as (a) it isn’t out yet, and (b) it can’t possibly be as silly as the title suggests. If I were going to give a gift I would give “Seven Nights to Forever”, as the cover is so patently ridiculous that it must be making fun of itself. (Or, to a friend who didn’t like romance, I would give “A Kiss at Midnight”, as I rather liked it and it’s the only one of the bunch that I’ve read.)
What a great collection! I would probably read “Scandal of the Season” first just because of the title. Scandal is always tempting to read about. Not sure which I’d give away. I’d have to look them over first.
Thanks for having the contest and happy holidays!
I’d start with the Sarah MacLean, because she was so fabulous at the Word Books event in Brooklyn this summer, and I somehow still haven’t gotten around to reading her books!
Too many choices! I would probably read Cathy Maxwell’s “His Christmas Pleasure” first. Or maybe “A Pirate’s Possession”. That cover is yummy! Pass the whipped cream, please….
I think I would read the Eloisa James one first and give His Christmas Pleasure to my man! (In more ways than one, winkwinknudgenudge)
Seriously though, any SmartBitches out here can recommend a good romance to start a guy on? The manfriend has expressed interest in finding out why I devour romance novels, and I was thinking about getting him one for christmas. (in addition to his real gifts)
The Devil wears Plaid would be the first tbr.
Happy Hanukkah! Any of the books choices are wonderful.
Those would definitely make a big, delightful pile – but which one to put on top? I think A Kiss at Midnight, though there are a couple of others there that are desperately trying to nudge that one away from the top slot.
I would read A Pirates Possession because its been a while since a read a pirate romance, plus the cover amuses me.
Wow! What a beautiful collection of books. I’m ready to read all of them RIGHT NOW, but I’d definitely give Pirate’s Possession to my good friend Sarah. She’s currently living in Germany and is sadly missing some of those old-fashioned buccaneer/disguised waif historicals we used to devour like candy.
Happy Hanukkah!
I would read A Kiss at Midnight first, because I love fairy tales.
I always like to bring out my Christmas themed romances this time of year so I would pick “His Christmas Pleasure”
This one’s easy since I’ve been coveting “Seven Nights to Forever” I would read that first.
A lot of books I would like to read there! I would start with Rules of an Engagement because I’ve been a fan of Suzanne Enoch for a long time.
My first attempt to post seems to have failed, so here goes again:
I would read A Kiss at Midnight first, because I love fairy tales.
I’d have to put them on a table and close my eyes while my kids mix them up and then pick one. I love all of these authors and am so behind on my tbr pile…
What a fun dilemma to have.
Hey! It ate my comment!
I said I’d have to close my eyes to pick which one to read first!
I’d have to start with Ten Ways to Be Adored When Landing a Lord, mostly because of the awesome rhyming-ness of the title, but also because I work in a bookstore and when I’m at the Customer Services desk, I’m always facing that book and it keeps catching my attention. So it’s like fate is telling me to read it.
I would read Suzanne’s “Rules of Engagement” first because I’ve been waiting for Bradshaw’s book for a while.
Since I want to read almost all of them immediately, I’d close my eyes & grab!!
Give one away?? not a chance!
Good selection, I’ve read and enjoyed several already. I’d pick Evangeline Collins Seven Nights to Forever. New author for me and I keep seeing great reviews about her books.
Wow, what a bounty! I would probably start with the Devil Wears Plaid.
I’d start with A Pirate’s Possession because I can’t resist a pirate story, and there’s girl-dressed-as-boy thrown in—another plot cliche that I can’t resist.
Depending on who it was, I would probably give the Kaki Warner novels as gifts because I’m not confident enough to wrap up one of the other covers. But maybe for my sister-in-law, I’d gift the Teresa Madeiros book because the title would make her smile.
Lots of awesome books! But I’d definitely read “The Devil Wears Plaid” first.
This is awesome – thanks!
Read first – Evangeline Collins (Seven Nights) or Beverly Jenkins (Midnight) or Cheryl Holt – or whatever I had first….
Give away – can’t say yet, since I haven’t read any, but I like to share.
Read first and then give away: “The Pirate’s Possession” I love historicals, and on that little thumb nail picture there were so many ridges and bulges I couldn’t tell which direction said pirate was facing… Always a good start.
I think I would start with Evangeline Collins’ Seven Nights to Forever, because of that cover
I think I would have to start with A Kiss at Midnight, but I would probably dive into the stack headfirst and not come out until I’d read them all.
The Devil Wears Plaid would be my first choice!!
I would read Seven Nights to Forever first because I loved the review and the cover discussion. And I would gift Open Country to my cousin Carol who loves westerns.
I would almost certainly read The Devil Wears Plaid first, since Medeiros is one of my favorite romance authors since way back.
Oooooooooh! What a beautiful pile of books! Sarah MacLean or Beverly Jenkins to start, than a nice swim through the rest…
Oh man, so nice! I would definitely read Midnight first. I’m always looking for good romance featuring people of color. Most of what I find is contemporary and pretty bad, so a historical would be a lot of fun!
