Hanukkah, oh Hanukkah, we’re rocking out for the second night of Hanukkah!
To continue the festive merriment to celebrate reading, both paper and digital, I have a collection of historical romance with some historical fiction mixed in.
All you have to do to win is leave a comment, and I’ll select a winner each day. These contests are open to international winners, and I will do my best to ship this week, provided people send me their addresses promptly.
Standard disclaimers apply: I’m not being compensated for this giveaway. If anything, my gift is exceptional support of the United States Postal Service (Happy Hanukkah, US Mail Carriers!). Jewish people eat jelly donuts, known as sufganiyot, on Hanukkah, which is stone cold awesome. Double knots are best for tennis shoes.
Ahoy! Contest the second!
On the Second Night of Hanukkah, Smart Bitches Gave to Me: A massive selection of historical romance!
Just leave a comment below, and tell me which one you’d read first, or which one you’d give as a gift, and you’re entered to win. Comments close in 24 hours, but fear not, there’s another book – paper or digital – giveaway coming soon. Because Hanukkah lasts for eight crazy nights, and I have not yet eaten enough sweet potato latkes.
Happy Hanukkah, and Happy Reading!

I’d have to read Seven Nights to Forever, if only to figure out what part the massive purple dress plays.
Definitely Seven Nights to Remember based on the review posted on this very site!
When it comes to which book I’d read first, I’d have to say that “A Kiss at Midnight” by Eloisa James looks the most interesting. I enjoy Cinderella stories, and the reviews for this one make it sound pretty good. Next in line would be “The Devil Wears Plaid” by Teresa Medeiros, or “Ten Ways to be Adored When Landing a Lord” by Sarah MacLean, depending on my mood.
Thanks for the chance!
Like many others here I’d start with Seven Nights to Forever, based on the review posted here. As for gifts, I’d pass on the ones with the generic landscape covers (less embarrassing to the recipient. :))
I would totally read “You Only Love Once” because if they really are only going to “love” just once… I bet it’s gonna be D A M N good. *winkwinknudgenudge*
Oh man, the Devil Wears Plaid! I love Teresa…
That’s quite a haul.
I’d start with Caroline Linden’s “You Only Love Once”! I’ve been wanting to give her books a try but haven’t had the chance yet.
I would probably go with His Christmas Pleasure, since it’s in the theme of the season. I don’t know I’d give any as a gift, but I know I would share A Pirate’s Possession with my mom, as she loves adventurous romances with strong heroines.
A Kiss at Midnight by Eloisa James. I really wanted this one when it came out, but Agency pricing has kept me from it. I love her books and this one sounds great.
I’d read A Kiss at Midnight. I’ve always wanted to read one of Eloisa James’s books but didn’t know where to start!
Read: The Devil Wears Plaid
Giveaway: The other because my mother is a huge historical romance lover, and this would be perfect for her.
Personally, I’d definitely choose Midnight for myself—I love Beverly Jenkins’ books, and have had a hard time finding any in the stores since I’ve moved.
For a gift, it would depend on how explicit the reader likes the sex scenes, I think. For someone who doesn’t mind or who wants detailed descriptions, I’d go with the Jo Beverley or the Eloisa James. (I haven’t read Emily and the Dark Angel, but I’ve read and enjoyed other Beverley books, and I have read A Kiss at Midnight and enjoyed it as much as all of her other books.) If someone wants a “fade to black” sort of scene, I’m stumped. One of the Kari Warner books? Those discreet covers make me think that maybe they’re discreet in description, too.
Either way, I’d definitely pass on any books to my local used/charity book store, so that others can also enjoy them. (I’d prefer a library, but all of the ones I’ve contacted don’t actually take donations of books anymore.)
Also, since it appears that a post up above is missing a closing italics tag, I’ll throw in an extra one, just in case that’ll stop it.
Probably A Kiss at Midnight, love James! Or maybe I’d start with the silly lavender one… :O)
Yeah! Books!
I’d start with A Kiss at Midnight. I really loved her Desperate Duchesses series, and I’ve been looking forward to reading her latest. I’d give away The Devil Wears Plaid, because I already have that one.
Happy Hanukkah!
I would read the Jo Beverly and give A Pirates Possession to my friend; she likes pirates.
Loving Eloisa James these days, so as a gift I’d give away A Kiss at Midnight—I’ve already read it and would happily share the looooove.
…The rest I would keep for my book-hungry, greedy self.
I’d read Rules of an Engagement first since I’ve seen it at the store but my book budget is severely limited. I’d gift the Eloisa James book because I already have it in my keeper pile 😉
I have 3 words to explain why I’d have to go with ‘A Pirate’s Possession” – Six-pack abs! (and just the slightest hint of ManTitty ™ for extra flavor.)
Historical romances for Hanukka/Christmas are good food!
I’ll say The Devil Wears Plaid, cause I can never resist the plaid!
Chag Hanukkah Sameach!
I’d definitely start with Outrageously Yours. I love a book about historical scientific advancements.
I’d start with Rules of Engagement. I love the series!
Ugh @ choose your favorite baby! What a dilemma!
I would stack the ones from my favorite authors in a pile and close my eyes to pick one at random and not offend the other books!
Here are my fav’s from that list:
Eloisa James
Teresa Medeiros
Cathy Maxwell
Sarah MacLean
Suzanne Enoch
Jo Beverly
Ton of excellent regency romance authors in this giveaway! Awesome too, as you can go from book to book without a lot of jolt in time period.
Ever get a book about some weird time period, like ancient Egypt, or 19th century China or something, and it sits on the pile until you feel like visiting that world? Regency is more like visiting family, very familiar. These books all look like in that same general time period. I’ve read one or two books by Kathryn Caskie and Cheryl Holt etc, all look good.
Huh @ the guy in that pirate book – does he have some kind of extra set of ab muscles? That is not a 6 pck, looks more like a 12 pack!
I’d read the Eloisa James first, since I love her. And then I’d gift them all to my friend Denise because we book swap with each other.
I’d pick the Jo Beverley Emily and the Dark Angel. Somehow despite nearly 20 years of romance reading I missed JoB.
I started last year with A Lady’s Secret and have been reading them when I can find them ever since.
I would read Seven Nights to Forever first, because your cover snark post totally made me want to read that one, haha. And I would give A Kiss at Midnight to my sister for Christmas, to show her that romance can be good as well as fun!
I get weak in the knees over dark, swarthy men, so I would read A Pirate’s Possession first.
Squee.
I would start with Seven Nights to Forever. I’ve read so many interesting reviews of it, I’d have to try it myself.
There are several “old fave” authors in the group, but I’d have to say I would read the Evangeline Collins first, just because of all of the posts I’ve read about it.
Sweet potato latkes? O.M.G. Guess what I’m maing this weekend?
I don’t care too much for the historical (I’m a contemp kind of girl) but I’d have the whole schmeer sent to my BFF who is a historical reading ho. How I loves that woman!
Okay, based purely on the cover alone, I think I would read Midnight by Beverly Jenkins.
The Teresa Medeiros book because I love all of her stuff!
I am looking forward to 10 ways to be adored….
Yum!
I think I’d read Midnight first. Beverly Jenkins is a very popular author at the bookstore where I work and I’d love to check out her books. I’m glad to see some Regencies in there too – I had a random thought recently of “I need to read some more Regency romance”. 🙂
I would read the Jo Beverley. I just finished An Arranged Marriage and I have An Unwilling Bride all ready to go.
A Pirate’s Possession, ‘cause dude – PIRATE! And it’s added to the wishlist now just in case I don’t win. Because – PIRATE.
I only have a few of the books pictured. Any I don’t already own would be wonderful.
Sam
Me thinks “the Pirates Possession” . It’s been a while since my love of pirate books has been plundered. Arrrrrrgh.
Har! Sorry had to start the day with pirate puns.
What fun! I’d read The Devil Wears Plaid because I love the title. And the cover lady looks SASSY.
Outrageously Yours because that cover with the awesome green dress just draws me in. Want to be spying on the couple behind that phallic fountain.
I would probably go with Seven Nights to Forever to read, and give Rules of an Engagement and/or Emily and the Dark Angel to my mother, because she loves her fun little Regency novels so much (as do I, of course!)
