Smart Bitches Hanukkah Festival Giveaway: Part Six!

image Hanukkah, oh Hanukkah, there’s a lot of family during Hanukkah, so maybe it’s time to go hide and read.

To continue the festive merriment to celebrate reading, both paper and digital, I have a digital reader AND a case with a light – so you can hide in a closet and read. Not that I’ve ever done that, no. Not me!

All you have to do to win is leave a comment, and I’ll select a winner each day. These contests are open to international winners, and I will do my best to ship this week, provided people send me their addresses promptly.

Standard disclaimers apply: I’m not being compensated for this giveaway. If anything, my gift is exceptional support of the United States Postal Service (Happy Hanukkah, US Mail Carriers!). No shirt, no shoes, no service. Professional driver: do not attempt. Do not turn over. For ventilation, open window, or maybe a door.

Ahoy! Contest the sixth!

imageOn the Sixth Night of Hanukkah, Smart Bitches Gave to Me: A refurbished Sony 300 Pocket, with a new case with an onboard light. Note: this is not the touchscreen Pocket; this is the previous model with the buttons. And, it is PINK. (I love this shade of pink on the Sonys. It’s awesome.)

Just leave a comment below, and tell me your favorite place to hide and read, and you’re entered to win. Comments close in 24 hours, but fear not, there’s another book – paper or digital – giveaway coming soon. Because Hanukkah lasts for eight crazy nights, and I will admit, I’m having a good time over here.

Happy Hanukkah, and Happy Reading!

  1. Diana says:

My favorite place to read is, hands down, my bed!

  2. Heather says:

Love to read on our reclining couch in front of a fire.

  3. elianara says:

At home I read in my bed. Not much else to choose from in my small one bedroom apartment.

But outside of home, there is this nook in my library with a really comfortable chair I like to go to.

  4. MagB says:

I live alone, so most times privacy is guaranteed. However I once had this nosy neighbour who would peep through my windows to make sure I really wasn’t in. To avoid her, I would barricade myself in the corridor, armed with my book, snacks and an emergency torch.

  5. KatH says:

I just go out to my barn; where if you throw some hay everyone is happy and quiet.

  6. lina says:

In my office, with the door shut.

  7. LEW says:

I typically read in bed.  But sometimes, when I can’t put a book down, I try to read in my office at work, which means I have to quickly pretend I’m doing something else if someone walks in.

  8. Melody says:

I like to sit in the car to read, especially in the parking lot at work.  Very relaxing and everyone at home just thinks I’m working late.  :O)

  9. Lindlee says:

I like to read in my bedroom with the door shut (no distractions).

  10. Kristi says:

I like to curl up in bed! I will however, read in the car sometimes if I’m at the end of my book and oops! Just got caught in traffic, honey! Thanks for putting the kids to bed!

  11. Linda S. says:

I am never without a book, but I need a little push to get me to move to the ebook reading.

  12. Sarah says:

BATHROOM!  My potty time, my reading time.  And if someone knocks I merely say “I’m pooping leave me alone!’  They usually leave me alone… usually!

  13. Kate L says:

Aside from my various local cafes, I really like hiding out at my mom’s. I moved out of there last year and there is a little of my stuff there but not enough to distract me. AND there are the three cats I left behind when I moved.

  14. Jennifer M (OR) says:

Thanks for all these great giveaways. My favorite place is the corner of the living room couch. I just tuck myself in there and escape.

  15. brit says:

    I read in bed.
When I was in grade school we had an invention project, I made the “Undercover Light” where the circuit was completed when the blanket hit the top. This is a longstanding dedication, folks.

  16. Christine says:

I “hide” in my bed and read after the rest of the family has left the house for the day. We just switched to our feather comforter for the “winter” (such as it is, here in L.A.), and it’s incredibly cozy and sumptuous.

  17. Raylee says:

I never hide to read since it’s just me, hubby and the dogs at home.

  18. Andrea2 says:

My favorite place to hide and read is tucked under lots of covers in bed, with my beautiful cat snuggled beside me.

  19. Liz says:

when I have to hide, there are two places I might end up.  If I’m on campus (and that is a big if) I like to run to the quietest corner of the library.  they have really comfy chairs =)

If i’m at my mom’s place (another big if, since we’re in different cities/states), I tend to escape to the bathroom, which is where my mom used to escape to talk on the phone.  The chair isn’t as comfy as the ones in the school library, but what can you do.

  20. srs says:

I miss my last apartment. It was a studio and not that big, but it had a bay window where I set up a little reading nook w/a comfy chair and lamp and I’d spend hours there blissfully reading.

I’ve since gotten a new job and moved accross the counttry and my new apartment, while slightly bigger, does not feel nearly as homey. No place for a reading nook anywhere, so I now do most of my reading in bed.

  21. Shannon H says:

Theres a green chair in my common room that we call Narnia because you sit on it and you sink down and you just keep going and going and going. Perfect for reading.

  22. Jean C. says:

I have a lovely, comfortable easy chair set up in the corner of my living room, under a window that gets lots of sun. I also have plenty of lighting in that area for when the sun goes down. I also keep a couple of afghans on the chair so I can wrap up, and there’s an ottoman for my feet. Since I live alone and don’t have to worry about being disturbed by interlopers, that corner is my “reading room.”

  23. I sit on one end of my couch and find it the best place to read.
Reading is hiding for me. I close out the world.

  24. angela says:

I read in the bathroom because it’s usually the one place I can find peace.  The kids still pop their heads in, but for the most part, it’s the best place to not get interrupted every ten seconds.

  25. Sadiana says:

My favorite place to hide and read is my closet. It’s huge, and I can just close the door behind me and tuck myself in with the hanging pants and my dresses. It’s… disturbingly comforting, haha.

  26. Soraya says:

in bed with lots of pillows, a good light, a bag of gummy bears and a drink with a straw….

  27. Michele A says:

    I love to read!
I can read anywhere, however when I want by myself time I will usually settle in the rocking chair in our guest bedroom or curl up on the couch in the bsmt living room.  One plus, no phone down there … 🙂

  28. Jessi G. says:

My favorite spot to hide and read this time of year is in front of a roaring fire with all the doors locked and nobody else around.

  29. Julie B says:

I like to hide out at my sister’s house on my way home from work if I want to catch a little bit of quiet reading.  It’s about halfway between work and home and it’s the perfect place to stop off for those days I leave work a little early.

  30. Carly says:

The laundry room! It’s warm, totally smells like fabric softener, and is, like, the only place on my crowded college campus that I can count on to be completely deserted.

  31. Michaelene says:

I always read in my room, on the floor, next to the heater…it’s perfect for a cold evening. I know it doesn’t sound comfortable (on the floor?), but hey. it’s actually more cozy than it sounds. You should try it! 🙂

  32. Anywhere I can squeeze in five minutes of uninterrupted time. Some days, I’d rather read than eat! I don’t need quiet, per se. I can read in the checkout line, in a parking lot waiting to pick up someone, waiting roon, kitchen while waiting for pasta water to boil…Must have books!

  33. Rachel says:

My favorite place to hide and read is my bed.  No one knows for sure if I am asleep or reading and that keeps them away.

  34. Michelle in Texas says:

I love to run a hot bath, lock the door, and soak. Nobody bothers me! In fact, I’ll do that tonight!

  35. bungluna says:

Bedroom it is for me.  There’s something soothing about reclining on my pillows with my favorite book.

  36. TeriAnne Stanley says:

I hide in plain sight.  I have the Kindle App on my Blackberry, so I can pretend to check important email while I am really engaged in absorbing smut.

  37. Rae says:

I’m a nursing, working mom – so I get my reading in 2 15minute doses a day while pumping.

  38. Anne says:

OK, I confess.  Reading in the bathtub is my favorite place.  With an e-reader I, of course, would remove myself to my second best place.  In bed, of course.

  39. SamG says:

I’m boring.  I go into my room and read in bed.  My family pretty much leave me be while I’m there.

    Sam

  40. JZ1978 says:

Even though I’m 32 and not 12 anymore, I still love to read under the covers at night. I’m usually using the Kindle or Nook apps on my cell phone, or using my cellphone as a flashlight.  Bring me back to the days where I used to have to hide the flashlight from my parents so I could read after bedtime!
