Hanukkah, oh Hanukkah, there’s a lot of family during Hanukkah, so maybe it’s time to go hide and read.
To continue the festive merriment to celebrate reading, both paper and digital, I have a digital reader AND a case with a light – so you can hide in a closet and read. Not that I’ve ever done that, no. Not me!
All you have to do to win is leave a comment, and I’ll select a winner each day. These contests are open to international winners, and I will do my best to ship this week, provided people send me their addresses promptly.
Standard disclaimers apply: I’m not being compensated for this giveaway. If anything, my gift is exceptional support of the United States Postal Service (Happy Hanukkah, US Mail Carriers!). No shirt, no shoes, no service. Professional driver: do not attempt. Do not turn over. For ventilation, open window, or maybe a door.
Ahoy! Contest the sixth!
On the Sixth Night of Hanukkah, Smart Bitches Gave to Me: A refurbished Sony 300 Pocket, with a new case with an onboard light. Note: this is not the touchscreen Pocket; this is the previous model with the buttons. And, it is PINK. (I love this shade of pink on the Sonys. It’s awesome.)
Just leave a comment below, and tell me your favorite place to hide and read, and you’re entered to win. Comments close in 24 hours, but fear not, there’s another book – paper or digital – giveaway coming soon. Because Hanukkah lasts for eight crazy nights, and I will admit, I’m having a good time over here.
Happy Hanukkah, and Happy Reading!

I never leave home without a book and I often find myself sitting in my car finishing up a chapter before I go in.
Every night I take a bubble bath and I take my latest book and go into whatever world I’m reading. Ahhh! Me time!!
I’m a Wandering Jew when it comes to reading, especially at this time of year when the kids are home from school for holidays & snow days and my husband is using up the remainder of his vacation time before he loses it. If they’re using the TV or working on some project, I hole up in whatever quiet corner of the house I can find. Fortunately, because we’re a family of voracious readers, we set up lots of comfy chairs around the house, perfect for curling up when someone wants to escape the rest of the family.
I don’t usually have to hide, but I have been known to sit in my car before appointments just to get in a few peaceful moments.
Tee hee. I sneak into the sitting room in my bedroom. For some reason the kiddies and hubby never think to look for me there.
Well, since I’m a student and I have a room of only 17 m2, there is really only my big ol’ couch to sit and read comfortably. Luckily that couch is just next to both the window and the central heating, so I can’t complain!
There’s an armchair and ottoman in our office that I love to curl up in and read. Very private and QUIET!
I work about 2 miles from the beach, so I love to drive out to the pier and open the sunroof, kick off my heels and kick back the seat to a great book. I am absolutely in LOVE with the Kay Hooper Crime Scene trilogies….they are full of suspense and trashy romance!!! AWESOME way to break for lunch and unwind!!
Anywhere I can. I have books stashed all over the house – under the bed, in cabinets, behind the couch, under the sink. It’s pretty sad.
Bedroom!! Least number of interruptions 😀
AFter everyone else in my house is asleep, I head for MY spot on the couch and read til my eyes glaze over!
Oh, to read ebooks without the bulky laptop. And in pink! Hope I win!
I can usually get away to read without too many interruptions, but if I actually need to hide the bathroom is the spot. Most people don’t have the nerve to bother you when you’re in there.
My laundry room is in the basement and for some reason my husband and children avoid it like the plague. I can go down there and read in peace:)
Now that you mention it, I don’t have a favorite reading hidey-hole anymore. I read where and when I can. But when I was a kid, my local public library had these wonderful little window seats in the children’s section that were beyond the beyond for curling up with a book. Many years later, when I worked at that library in high school, I was still (just barely) small enough to fit in those window seats, and I spent a lot of my break time there. Aaah, memories.
I read every- and anywhere: in the train or tram, on the way to work, waiting for the bus, walking, in the bathroom…. but my favorite place is the righthand corner or my sofa, within reach of my cuppa tea.
My parents have a giant oversized chair that I can curl up in. It happens to be right next to a much taller piece of furniture, so people walking by don’t necessarily see you!
I hide and read in the library – my cell phone doesn’t have reception there so I have an excuse to not answer any calls.
I will read anywhere! But my favorite place is in my rocking chair at home, alone
.
I read anywhere and everywhere. I have a book hidden in my car in case I forget the book I’m reading. I have to admit to hiding in the bathroom to finish a book so if the kids come looking for me I can say “I’m in the bathroom, I’ll help you in a minute!” bwahaha.
I like to read while laying on my stomach on the bed, with the lights off…. I have alittle book light. I like to be left alone when I read an if the lights off people won’t bother me.
In my bedroom! I love the pink sony, too. Thanks for the opportunity.
While I don’t hide in closets to read, I do furtively read in bed with the lights off so not to disturb someone sleeping beside me. For those books you just can’t shut, even it it’s 2 a.m.!
My hisband had a huge basement man cave with allof his sports stuff, movies & DVR & BIG TV, all of his music and sound system. There is an old blue Lazy Boy. After he goes to sleep, or if he’s gone, I hide there and read!
If no one is home—upstairs comfy in my bed with either a glass of wine or a tea
If the heathens are home than the only place to hide is the bathroom—funnily that is where my mom used to hide and read too
I’ve been known to go into the bathroom near the end of a book so I can read the end without interruptions.
Pretty Pink Sony!
My favorite place to read is anywhere I can…I also make sure that my family reads with me at times. I find that parents who read do really make good role models.
The corner of my bedroom – it’s close enough to a window to give light but not close enough that I get distracted by squirrels or cars or people. It’s quiet and hidden by the bed and a huge bookcase – I piled floor cushions and blankets so that it’s cozy, too. It’s my favorite spot.
Oh to get some reading time! There is no place to hide, just gotta squeeze it in. By the time it gets quiet, I fall asleep reading.
In the bathtub! If my family hears the water running, they know it’s reading/Mom time and to leave me alone for a bit. 🙂
I used to like to hide in the armchair with a book. Now we don’t have it, and no one let’s me just sit and read anyway. So I have to sit and read on the floor while my son is playing nearby. Whatever it takes to get through a book. The best reading place is on the subway. So many books finished! On so many subways!
My favorite place to read is cuddled up on a couch, with my romantic partner either reading next to me or practicing finger-style guitar.
On a beautiful Spring or Fall day—the benches in the flower garden adjacent to work. It’s close enough I can get away (and not be seen) and get back quickly if need be!
I hide in my bedroom and read sprawled out on my bed. I can read both paper format and on my lap top from that position.
My favorite place to read is on a couch. Hubby and I have a small couch in our bedroom where I can shut the door and evade the kids for 15-20 minutes before they come hunt me down. Pre-kids, I’d just claim a living room couch to myself and tell hubby to stop talking for a while 🙂
I like to hide and read in my parents’ jacuzzi when I’m home for the holidays. A secret getaway from the drunken relatives.
My room. There is a sofa that I love to snuggle on and read.
My favorite place to read is in the bathroom. Ever since I discovered romance novels – i think i was 12 or 13 (whitney, my love), i have holed myself up in a bathroom to read – b/c the chinese – at least my family – highly respect mother nature’s call. To insure complete privacy, i lock the door and turn on the loud bathroom fan to show i am serious. I do this now at the tender age of AHEM b/c i have three kids who can’t seem to do anything without my help but they all know to leave the parents alone when the bathroom fan is running…
My fav place to read would definitely have to be on my bed. Especially right before I go to sleep. I probably have the coziest bed in the universe.
Where I hide and read really depends on the weather. During the summer I hang out on the porch with a cold one and hang out all day. However, in the winter I just take over the couch during the day (no kids, which makes this easier) or head to bed earlier than usual and hide under my duvet.
