Smart Bitches Hanukkah Festival Giveaway: Part Six!

image Hanukkah, oh Hanukkah, there’s a lot of family during Hanukkah, so maybe it’s time to go hide and read.

To continue the festive merriment to celebrate reading, both paper and digital, I have a digital reader AND a case with a light – so you can hide in a closet and read. Not that I’ve ever done that, no. Not me!

All you have to do to win is leave a comment, and I’ll select a winner each day. These contests are open to international winners, and I will do my best to ship this week, provided people send me their addresses promptly.

Standard disclaimers apply: I’m not being compensated for this giveaway. If anything, my gift is exceptional support of the United States Postal Service (Happy Hanukkah, US Mail Carriers!). No shirt, no shoes, no service. Professional driver: do not attempt. Do not turn over. For ventilation, open window, or maybe a door.

Ahoy! Contest the sixth!

imageOn the Sixth Night of Hanukkah, Smart Bitches Gave to Me: A refurbished Sony 300 Pocket, with a new case with an onboard light. Note: this is not the touchscreen Pocket; this is the previous model with the buttons. And, it is PINK. (I love this shade of pink on the Sonys. It’s awesome.)

Just leave a comment below, and tell me your favorite place to hide and read, and you’re entered to win. Comments close in 24 hours, but fear not, there’s another book – paper or digital – giveaway coming soon. Because Hanukkah lasts for eight crazy nights, and I will admit, I’m having a good time over here.

Happy Hanukkah, and Happy Reading!

Oooh Pink!!  I love the shade.  However, this would be a gift for a friend of mine who is fighting breast cancer for the second time.  As much as I would love this for myself, I’m hoping that I win this one for her.  She loves to read and can’t carry her library back & forward to the hospital…so, in the spirit of the season, I hope I win this for her.

  2. Sofie says:

The windowsill in my bedroom. I used to hide away there behind the curtain all the time when I was a kid, which freaked my mother out, because she was certain the window would somehow open and I would fall out. I still love sitting there, even if there’s a draft and the windowsill is slightly too narrow, but the idea of it appeals to me.

  3. Ros says:

I have the tiniest office in the world inside the library where I work. I like to sit in there pretending to be studying hard when really I am secretly reading romance novels on my laptop.

  4. Lane says:

    My bed or my closet.

    Lane

  5. Galadriel says:

When I was a little girl, always, always under the covers with a flashlight. After all, for some strange reason my parents kept putting me to bed before I was tired, and really, the only response to that indignity is to read! *G*

Nowadays, I have a tendency to lock myself in the bathroom and read there. Not that I’m meaning to hide there to read, more like I’m reading while I’m brushing my teeth, and suddenly twenty minutes or more have passed, I’m foaming at the mouth, and getting dangerously close to dripping on the page in front of me.

  6. Olivia says:

The best place to read has always been under a blanket on the couch with my dog Freddie lying next to me. A few lit candles and a cup of tea, and the mood is completely right for some awesome reading time!

  7. Jaye says:

Not my ‘favorite’ place to read, but the only place I can hide is my bathroom.

  8. Claudia S says:

My favourite place to read and hide is behind the couch. A few pillows on the floor, a warm quilt to wrap myself in, and the world can’t find me!

  9. Danielle says:

Out on the balcony, where I can snuggle into the couch and enjoy my potplant garden at the same time!

  10. blodeuedd says:

In bed :)…do I ever read somewhere else than bed, not often no. The bed is just so comfy and I can hide under the covers

  11. Donna says:

My favorite place to hide and read is my bedroom.  Lots of pillows, music in the background and sometimes a glass of wine.

  12. Sally says:

I like reading in bed, but I need new pillows because they get uncomfortable if I don’t fluff them often.

  13. OMG, Sarah – you are killing me with hope!

I love to read at night when everyone is sleeping – no real need to hide then. But when everyone is up and about I like to sit in the breakfast nook in the corner of my kitchen. It’s cozy, it gets our wireless, and I have a secret stash of chocolate. What more can I ask for?

  14. My bed. “Oh, I’m not feeling quite well, must lie down for a while.” “I’m tired, time for bed.” “It’s the weekend, no need to get up early.”

  15. I’ve been using the bathroom as my “secret” reading hiding place since I was a kid dodging chores.  No matter how certain everyone else is that you are not actually using the bathroom, they are reluctant to pound on the door and insist that you come out.

  16. Shirley says:

I like to read in my big recliner. It’s so nice and the natural light in that room is great!

Thanks for the great giveaway!! I don’t have a ereader yet & I’d love to win this one!! Pink is a so my color! lol

  17. beccafoh says:

Best hideaway place to read has got to be the bath. I start with very shallow water so I can keep adding more hot without flooding the bathroom.

  18. Danielle D says:

My favorite place to hide and read is our bedroom during the winter and in the summer our backyard.

  19. tracykitn says:

my favorite place to hide and read is in the tub with hot tea and masses of yummy bubbles!

  20. Now that my son is three, he knows how to find me anywhere. I now hide in plain sight and read while pretending to watch cartoons with him.

  21. Lizzie R says:

Last year we finally got our office in gear and bought a lovely red couch that would be perfect for reading unfortunately the kids know where it is so I think I’ve sat and read there about twice in the past year.  Barring that, late at night when the kids are finally out, I like to lie in bed under the covers and read.  Not original but it works.

  22. Zuleika says:

My bed. So I can take naps in between reading

  23. Mama Nice says:

I bought a big ol’ papasan chair and it’s put right by a window that gets lots of sun. That’s where I go to hide and read, but my daughters always still manage to find me!

  24. Debbie says:

I like to hide in the bathroom and read—people are too nervous to bother me!

  25. lili says:

When I was younger and had to share a room with my sister- or when traveling and sharing a hotel room with my family- I’d always want to read long after everyone else had gone to sleep. How to do this without disturbing anyone?

The bathtub with a pillow and a blanket. I’d spend hours, curled up in the tub, reading into the wee hours of the morning and scaring the bajeezus out of any family members that wandered in.

Now of course it has evolved, but it’s still the tub for me- hot, hot water, some wine, a bit of Yann Tiersen music and a trashy book. A girl doesn’t need much more…

  26. Sarah W says:

I do read in the bathroom, but that just seems to encourage my kids to throw themselves against the door and ask me what I’m doing.

I prefer the purloined letter approach—-I ‘hide’ in the kitchen and cook while reading the ‘cookbook’ on the stand.  The kids haven’t figured it out yet.  Even when I’m making Jell-O.

I also read and walk at the same time, so as to provide a moving target from room to room.

    I am a reading ninja.

  27. ninjapenguin says:

Bathroom.  I have been known to keep books in there in case the reading urge strikes (and not bathroom books, but novels).  Of course, I also have a tendency to have books scattered throughout the house (and car, and work, and purse) so that I can read anytime, anywhere.

  28. April says:

When I was a kid I used to stay up late in bed reading with a flashlight!  Some books are too good to put down!  I’ve never hidden in a closet to read but I do use my books at lunch to keep away from silly conversations at work.  Only the very tenacious and oblivious people ignore the book and try to hold conversations with me.

Haha!  My ‘not a robot’ code today is make69!!

  29. Lora says:

When I was little I used to curl up in the floor of my closet with a flashlight and read with all my clothes hanging above me like a canopy.

Now, I read in my papasan chair or in bed.

BTW My verification image is “size94”…is it IMPLYING something about my holiday eating habits?

  30. S.E. says:

Hmm…in bed, under the covers. Especially in winter time. With a good book, nothing can beat it.

  31. Ana says:

When my parents sent me to bed, they always left the door half closed, and since my room is facing the living room where they stayed up watching TV, I used to read the book on the 3-4 cm wide light that came through the door. That probably explains why I now need glasses, but it was totally worth it!

  32. KTG says:

My favorite place to read is the most comfotable: in bed! There’s not really any place I can hide where my boys can’t find me, but I have been known to carry a book with me as I run errands so I can sneak a few minutes of reading in at the bank, grocery store, and the like. I imagine that would be even more convenient with a digital reader!

  33. Kim says:

If I hide in my room and close the door, I can read in peace.

  34. Nonnie says:

When I had to hide, it was the bathroom.  Now that my boys are teens, I can read out in the open.

  35. Laura Wilson says:

My favorite place to hide and read is the bathroom. My daughter feels she can interrupt me anywhere else.

  36. Michelle W says:

MY BED!!  Love to snuggle in with a good book and just get lost in the pages and covers!

  37. donna ann says:

    bedroom or bathroom—few interuptions there

  38. triplets5 says:

What a wonderful gift to celebrate the season.  Pink would go great with my pug who is always on my lap when reading!!

  39. Lisa says:

Oh Virg, the purple divan sounds divine! I just hide in my room. If the kids bug me and I’m near the end of a book I just hold it up and showing the thinness of the remaining portion of the book and they know that they need to go amuse themselves for about 15 minutes. It’s a good thing. Thank you for the amazing contest!

  40. Mari says:

I like to think of myself as having the title “The Reader in the Littlest Room” (aka the Loo) – at least there the cat isn’t forever trying to use my book as her rubbing post 🙂
