Smart Bitches Hanukkah Festival Giveaway: Part Six!

image Hanukkah, oh Hanukkah, there’s a lot of family during Hanukkah, so maybe it’s time to go hide and read.

To continue the festive merriment to celebrate reading, both paper and digital, I have a digital reader AND a case with a light – so you can hide in a closet and read. Not that I’ve ever done that, no. Not me!

All you have to do to win is leave a comment, and I’ll select a winner each day. These contests are open to international winners, and I will do my best to ship this week, provided people send me their addresses promptly.

Standard disclaimers apply: I’m not being compensated for this giveaway. If anything, my gift is exceptional support of the United States Postal Service (Happy Hanukkah, US Mail Carriers!). No shirt, no shoes, no service. Professional driver: do not attempt. Do not turn over. For ventilation, open window, or maybe a door.

Ahoy! Contest the sixth!

imageOn the Sixth Night of Hanukkah, Smart Bitches Gave to Me: A refurbished Sony 300 Pocket, with a new case with an onboard light. Note: this is not the touchscreen Pocket; this is the previous model with the buttons. And, it is PINK. (I love this shade of pink on the Sonys. It’s awesome.)

Just leave a comment below, and tell me your favorite place to hide and read, and you’re entered to win. Comments close in 24 hours, but fear not, there’s another book – paper or digital – giveaway coming soon. Because Hanukkah lasts for eight crazy nights, and I will admit, I’m having a good time over here.

Happy Hanukkah, and Happy Reading!

I put a dorm pillow on my side of the bed, turn on the heated mattress pad, and only turn on my bedside lamp. Soo cozy!

  2. Victoria says:

My favorite place to read is in bed. 🙂

On the futon under my bunk bed. Its all cozy and sheltered.

  5. Rebeca says:

When I was a kid I used to sneak a flashlight into bed to read under the covers. Now I don’t have a bedtime and just apply concealer to any dark shadows under my eyes that might attest to my late-night reading habit.

  6. JamiSings says:

Alright, I’ll give it another shot –

I’m a member of a weight loss support group called TOPS. I am, in fact, the co-leader. But I find the meetings boring and would not be a member if my parents didn’t push me into it. Well, anyway I will grab the bathroom key and my book and go read in there for ten minutes when the meeting is getting too boring for me. I don’t know, or care, what people think. I just want to read.

  7. Ann says:

I don’t know if I would call it hiding, but I love to read in bed under a mountain of blankets.

  8. Shannon says:

the bathroom, with the door locked to keep out kids

  9. cin says:

Hide and read?  Always away from home, often at the library, where I pretend to go to do work, but end up getting happily sucked into a novel instead.

  10. My favorite place to hide and read is out in the open. I generally don’thave to hide and read in myhouse, my husband reads and my kids apprecaite it and try not to bother us too much unless it’s necessary.

  11. Carin says:

My favorite place to hide and read is sprawled sideways across the bed.  The only place I can successfully hide and read is the bathroom, though!

  12. Vita says:

When I’m reading, I try to hide in plain sight.  So I’m usually in the living room late, late and night.

  13. Breiab says:

My favorite place to hide and read is a nice hot bath.

  14. C.A. Young says:

I have a ridiculous wing-back chair that I bought for $3 at a yard sale a couple of years ago.  It’s tucked into the corner of my writing office, and makes a great reading hideaway.

  15. Bea says:

I live by myself so I don’t have to hide. 🙂 I prefer to sit on my couch, curl up, and read.

At work, I when the children are napping (I teach pre-school) I will sometimes read instead of doing school stuff. 😛

  16. Elise S. says:

Snuggled in bed is my favorite place to read. It doubles as a hiding spot because the boyfriend tends to assume I’m asleep when he pokes his head in.

  17. Laura says:

I used to lock myself in my room to read, but I haven’t done that in years. Now I usually read on a loveseat in my bedroom.

  18. infinitieh says:

I love to read under the covers with a book light.  I’ve tried taking my laptop, but it gets pretty hot fairly quickly.  See, this is why I need an e-reader.

  19. Kelly Finley-Miller says:

The bedroom.  Nothing better than taking a “nap” with the book I am currently caught up in. 🙂

  20. Pam U says:

Hi hope that sexy random digital picker picks me!

  21. loretta lindi says:

My favorite place to read is anywhere I can find the time to do it.  I love e-books as you can always have them with your.  I like to curl up on the couch or in bed and read after the kids are in bed that is my quite time and can relax.

  22. Ellowyne says:

Up in the office of my parent’s house there is this one really scratchy vomit brown chair.  It’s the perfect combination of sturdy and soft and just the right proportion so that you can throw your legs up on one arm and curl into the back.  That sucker, scratchy though it is, is made of this incredible fabric that holds in heat really well so you don’t even need a blanket.

  23. Courtney says:

In the tub with bubbles and a glass of wine

  24. jessica says:

The bathtub.  I love reading in a hot bath and nobody bothers me.

  25. Dr. Strangelove says:

Favorite place to read:  in bed
Favorite place to hide:  coffee shop
Favorite place to hide & read:  the cubby hole where the social workers do their thing all day, and where I can hide during night call-coffee is just around the corner

  26. zinemama says:

My favorite – but alas no more – place to hide and read was when I used to nurse the baby to sleep in my bedroom. I’d lie down with him and a book and read away. Did my husband and 3yo downstairs really need to know that it took a lot less than 45 minutes for that baby to fall asleep? That the guise of a selfless, devoted mother was really a cover for a cranky woman who didn’t want to deal with husband or 3yo, much preferring to re-read “Devil’s Cub” for the nth time? No, they did not. I’m still nostalgic for those days.

  27. Holly says:

In bed! I’m sure my family thinks I sleep a lot more than I do.  Even when I was a kid, I would go to bed early just to read.  I received some new books today and it’s tempting to just go to bed now and start reading them, but other demands await 🙂

  28. Annebonnie says:

Pick me pick me – I am lusting after an e-reader.  I work in a bookstore and have a corner of a bench in our shipping department where I go hide and read on my lunch break – and short rest breaks too.  No one has found me there yet – lunch room gets crowded, noisy and I like to go where it is peaceful and quiet.  If you pick me, I will use it as a learning tool to help customers!!

  29. Trish says:

At home, I don’t need to hide, but at work on my lunch hour, I have to hide in the locker room behind a bank of lockers – otherwise if people see me they continually try to talk EVEN when they see the book open with my face stuck in it.

  30. Heather says:

Bathroom…my family wasn’t big on personal privacy so if I ever wanted to be undisturbed, I’d hide out in there!

  31. It is hard to argue with the closet.  In high school, I dragged a beanbag in there and hooked up one of those little push lights, and then I hid in there when the sucky relatives came over and my mom couldn’t find me.  It was pretty awesome.  Damn, now I want my high school closet back.

  32. Desiree says:

My favorite place to hide and read is in the bathtub.  I can turn on soft music, light enough candles to read by and relax in a bubble bath without constant interruption.  I also like the top floor in the tower of the university library.  No one goes up there and it’s always quiet with a lovely view of the city.

  33. Beverly says:

My favorite place to hide and read is the bathtub.  I have a 2-year-old that keeps me running all day, so the bath is my favorite place to relax and read.

  34. Peggy P says:

Hmmm, well,  I don’t have to hide to read anymore – converted a room into my library and it’s perfect! I remember as a teenager always looking for a quiet, cozy spot to read uninterrupted and it was never easy to find which made me want my own reading spot even more as an adult.

  35. Cat S says:

I have a 6 year old at home who ensures I can’t read without multiple interruptions no matter where I am until after she is in bed.  So I hide in my car in the library parking lot.  Because I just picked up the book I’ve been waiting for and I can’t wait to sneak a peek.  Then it’s all over with.  So if you come across a loon who is reading in her car instead of the library with a goofy smile on her face, it’s me!

  36. kristal1122 says:

I read in the bed with the cell phone turned OFF!

  37. Anne M Stewart says:

Well… it used to be, when I was a little kid, by my nightlight at night. I wasn’t afraid of the dark so much as I could read without letting my parents know I was still awake!

These days? Hm, probably my room, with my kitty and a cup of tea! Sometimes it’s nice to live at your own place.

  38. Maria says:

Hmm, the place I get interrupted the least is the throne. But the most comfortable is the couch in my room under a blanket with the dog curled up nearby. So it’s a toss up.

  39. Elisha M. says:

Not really hiding, but I love to read curled up in bed, snuggled under as many blankets as I can manage.

  40. De says:

I’m old fashioned.  I curl up in bed under the covers with a cat nearby.
