Hanukkah, oh Hanukkah, there’s a lot of family during Hanukkah, so maybe it’s time to go hide and read.
To continue the festive merriment to celebrate reading, both paper and digital, I have a digital reader AND a case with a light – so you can hide in a closet and read. Not that I’ve ever done that, no. Not me!
All you have to do to win is leave a comment, and I’ll select a winner each day. These contests are open to international winners, and I will do my best to ship this week, provided people send me their addresses promptly.
Standard disclaimers apply: I’m not being compensated for this giveaway. If anything, my gift is exceptional support of the United States Postal Service (Happy Hanukkah, US Mail Carriers!). No shirt, no shoes, no service. Professional driver: do not attempt. Do not turn over. For ventilation, open window, or maybe a door.
Ahoy! Contest the sixth!
On the Sixth Night of Hanukkah, Smart Bitches Gave to Me: A refurbished Sony 300 Pocket, with a new case with an onboard light. Note: this is not the touchscreen Pocket; this is the previous model with the buttons. And, it is PINK. (I love this shade of pink on the Sonys. It’s awesome.)
Just leave a comment below, and tell me your favorite place to hide and read, and you’re entered to win. Comments close in 24 hours, but fear not, there’s another book – paper or digital – giveaway coming soon. Because Hanukkah lasts for eight crazy nights, and I will admit, I’m having a good time over here.
Happy Hanukkah, and Happy Reading!

I work in a library and when its really quiet and I need to escape for a while, I take my trashy romance novel into the stacks and read for a while.
Shh, don’t tell my boss.
In bed, cuddled up under the blankets.
Back when I was a child, I used to climb this great big oak tree that we had in our backyard and read there. These days, however, I mostly read in bed or on my sofa 🙂
In my own bed, under the covers!
Shoot, I don’t hide and read. People bother me when I’m reading and THEY hide! LOLLOL 😉
I love to read when I get the chance. I’m currently in school, so I have to read a lot of stuff that I don’t enjoy reading. But when I get the chance to read leisurely, I like to hide out in my bedroom. I have a HUGE bay window in my room. It houses picture frames and currently a pretty pink picture frame. The light from the window is great. Even at night, the lights from outside shine in and I can read all night long if I wanted to. 🙂
bathroom stall at work – but not often. I figure who’s going to ask a girl why she spends so much time in the bathroom – Because I’m prepared to tell them something.
In the park around the corner with a pinic blanket and sundress- provided it isn’t snowing.
I’m not really in need of a hiding place to read. I guess my favorite place to read is curled up in bed.
In the park around the corner with a picnic blanket and sundress. Wine and cheese optional.
my mother still swears that anywhere she sent me, I found something to read. . .these days I can be found curled up in the comfy chair in the bedroom with a big, fat, juicy book
Living in the Pacific NW (US) means a lot of rain this time of year so my reading escape is under the little awning on the back porch. Visiting family is from the south and does not like the rain.
My favorite place to read is in my fluffy cloud of a bed.
My favorite place to hide with a good book and a flashlight? Under the covers, in a tent made of sheets and blankets, of course! Hey- hot hush-hush sex isn’t the ONLY thing you can do in bed after “lights out!”
Keep bringin’ the funny, Bitches! Have a ppy Hannukah and a Cool Yule!

With 3 kids age 3 and under, there’s really no where to hide. The closest I get is a bubble bath after they’re all tucked into bed.
I would love to win this for my mum! I love reading anywhere that would normally be dull… in the doctor’s waiting room, bus stop, eating lunch on my own in the cafeteria.
Hmm.. for me it’s the corner of our sectional with the blanket wrapped around me and the dog curled up beside me. If I’m there then hubby leaves me alone.
What a great colour for an ereader 🙂
I like to find a window seat and curl up there, preferably behind curtains so no-one can see me and make me do boring housework. Sadly we don’t have a window seat in this house so I mainly snuggle up in bed with the cat instead.
The blind my father built for me to hide in in our garden :o)
In bed with my snuggie with my two dogs. We take turns: they sleep while I read & I sleep and they sleep some more.
Under the covers! With a flashlight. I used to do this when I was young and supposed to be asleep. I had those little squeeze-able keychain flashlights and I would burn so many of them out just and my parents could never figure out why!
I don’t celebrate Hanukkah but I so want an e-book reader. Please add my name in the list 🙂
I no longer really hide to read, but when I was growing up at home, I’d lock myself in the bathroom to read — usually when I was supposed to be doing something else. In the winter, in particular, the bathroom always seemed to be the warmest room in the house and I’d sit with my feet on the heating vent. I do still like to lock myself in the bathroom and read in the bathtub though …
We have 14 acres of tree covered land, and there’s a tree house the previous owners half built…I fixed it enough that’s its a great place to bring bunch of pillows, a pitcher of ice tea, and a handful of books out on a sunny day.
My favorite place to read is on our front porch, because it gets the sun and no one ever thinks to look for me there. In warmer weather I crisp up and turn brown. In the winter, I sit on a milk crate and thank God for fingerless gloves.
My favorite place to read is snuggled under the covers in bed with my two cats at the foot of the bed keeping my toes warm!
Thanks!
Laura
I’d love to win! My husband would take it with him to infusions . . . and he’d be delighted it was pink! (No, he doesn’t have cancer; he has a genetic immune deficiency that makes him susceptible to infections, and he has to get IV antibiotics quite often.) There’s wifi at the hospital, so he could download all sorts of things. And then I could read the things he brought home on it, and he could feel like a big Hunter Forager Man about it. That would be fun.
I have a little loveseat in my bedroom, and I love to curl up on that and read.
My favorite place to curl up when I was little was in the bathtub (with my clothes and no water) because the bathroom was the one place where I wouldn’t be disturbed. However, these days, my husband can see the “Do Not Disturb” look when I get into a good book, so I can curl up anywhere.
No hiding for me. I like to read on the couch with the TV on.
Definitely the bath! I have one of those across-the-bath racks, so I won’t damage the books!
up in trees or on balconies… i’m terrified of heights so no thinks to look for me there ;p
I would love to win this one! My husband could read when he goes for infusions, and he would be proud to carry pink! (He doesn’t have cancer, just an immune deficiency that makes him susceptible to infections, and he has to do a lot of IV antibiotics through the year.) The hospital has wifi, so he could not only read, but download when he went, and he could bring things back for me to read, which would make him feel like Hunter Gatherer Man—how fun!
I mainly read in bed, the latest at night as possible so that I don’t get disturbed. There aren’t that many places I could go to hide in my house so it’s a case of waiting for the right time of day. XD
My favorite place to hide and read would definitely have to be my bedroom. I just snuggle up under the covers so only my eyes are peeking out, grab a book (or my Kindle), and I can read for hours that way.
My favorite place to hide and read is definitely the little living room area in the basement. I curl up on the couch under my fuzzy blanket and read for hours and hours.. Yeah right. More like for an hour if I’m LUCKY, before someone yells for me.
Yikes! Very late to the party on this one. I love to read everywhere at home, and I don’t really have to hide to do it except when I visit my parents for the holidays. Then I tuck myself up in the loft overlooking the kitchen, so I can be around people but not distracted. Except when the cooking starts! Yum.
It’s a tie between the bathtub and my bed.
My big overstuffed chair, that strangely enough, is located in my walk in closet. No one ever looks for me there so I can get lost of reading in.
The bathroom, lol!
