Smart Bitches Hanukkah Festival Giveaway: Part Six!

image Hanukkah, oh Hanukkah, there’s a lot of family during Hanukkah, so maybe it’s time to go hide and read.

To continue the festive merriment to celebrate reading, both paper and digital, I have a digital reader AND a case with a light – so you can hide in a closet and read. Not that I’ve ever done that, no. Not me!

All you have to do to win is leave a comment, and I’ll select a winner each day. These contests are open to international winners, and I will do my best to ship this week, provided people send me their addresses promptly.

Standard disclaimers apply: I’m not being compensated for this giveaway. If anything, my gift is exceptional support of the United States Postal Service (Happy Hanukkah, US Mail Carriers!). No shirt, no shoes, no service. Professional driver: do not attempt. Do not turn over. For ventilation, open window, or maybe a door.

Ahoy! Contest the sixth!

imageOn the Sixth Night of Hanukkah, Smart Bitches Gave to Me: A refurbished Sony 300 Pocket, with a new case with an onboard light. Note: this is not the touchscreen Pocket; this is the previous model with the buttons. And, it is PINK. (I love this shade of pink on the Sonys. It’s awesome.)

Just leave a comment below, and tell me your favorite place to hide and read, and you’re entered to win. Comments close in 24 hours, but fear not, there’s another book – paper or digital – giveaway coming soon. Because Hanukkah lasts for eight crazy nights, and I will admit, I’m having a good time over here.

Happy Hanukkah, and Happy Reading!

I don’t have to hide to get reading time—kids are in college and the cats and dogs would just find me anyway. Usually I read on the living room sofa, or in my computer chair with my feet up.

  2. You have some of the most fabulous giveaways.  Sign me up! 🙂

Hope you ladies are having a lovely day.

  3. Billie says:

I hide in a chair in the living room while my husband watches
the western channel and tune them out.

  4. Mary H says:

Much as I like reading in the bathroom my favorite place to read is in my comfy chair tucked in the corner my bedroom.

  5. Tammy says:

My fav place to read is poolside! So long as hubby and the kidlets aren’t performing wondrous feast of diving close to my lounger. (Ruined a few books that way – eeks!)

My 2nd fav place to read is in the conference room at work. That legal mumbo jumbo can get very boring.

    Pick me please!  🙂

  6. Gwen says:

I hide in plain sight, in the book.  The family just rolls their eyes as they wander past.  And know they have to say my name multiple times to get me out of the book.  If I’m staying up late to read, well, that gets difficult.  Husband can’t stand any light, so sometimes I find an excuse to end up on the couch and sneak back into bed later.  Where I can’t fall asleep because I stayed up too late…

  7. Lauren says:

I usually just close the door to my dorm room and turn the music up.  The roommates are too busy with their own stuff to bother me.

  8. cathy M says:

During the summer my favorite place to read is a draped off window seat that looks out over a beautiful orchard. During the winter, I love to read curled up in my favorite chair, all cozy in my down comforter.

During lunch at work I often walk down to the mall and find a posse in one of the garden area’s and just read for my lunch hour. 🙂

  10. Chanuka Sameach!
    Khag Urim Sameakh!
    A freilichin Chanukah!

I would LOVE to try reading in the closet. It would be a first!

  11. Min says:

Between kids, pets and the hubbie, there’s nowhere to hide. So I figure I might as well make a virtue of it, and sit on the front step of the cubby house, in the sun, with a cup of tea

    A freilichin Chanukah!

I would LOVE to try reading in the closet!

  13. Sabine says:

My favourite place is actually in my bed. My room is tiny and so very cozy and when it’s cold there’s always enough blankets:)

  14. tonya says:

There is no hiding from my kids. No matter where I go, they always find me!

  15. Jenny E. says:

I just curl up in bed or make a nest of blankets on the couch—not too creative, I’m afraid!

  16. Katrina says:

Ooohhh…I would sooo love this reader!

My favorite place to hide and read is in bed. We only have a 1-bedroom apartment, so I don’t have many options for peaceful spots.

  17. Emma says:

Oh Gods of random generators:  Pick me!  I would use the sony reader to read under they table during classes or at boring awards dinners!  And everywhere else because—lets face it—I never stop reading.

  18. Libby says:

There’s a gable window in attic of my department’s building on campus.  Someone shoved an ottoman in there eons ago.  It makes a perfect little spot to curl up and read.  Not only is it one of the few places with a view on campus (my office has no windows!), it also makes a perfect little napping spot.

  19. Jason says:

I love to read EVERYWHERE! But I love snuggling under my new quilt bestest.

  20. Jess says:

Ooh, commenting to get my name in the draw. That is some serious shiny right there!

  21. Kimberly says:

I have two locales which my posterior greets on a regular basis for the purpose of reading:  The right side of the couch (although the left sometimes gets the tuckus as well, but only occasionally)  and my bed.  I like to curl around the book for proper and complete absorption.  🙂

  22. maered says:

Count me in, please!  Great giveaway!

  23. Lissanne says:

I usually sit in my office at lunch time so I can read in peace without being interrupted (rarely happens, but I do try!).

  24. Donna S says:

I dont have to hide and read.  But my favorite place to read is in the recliner.  Usually have a cat with me then as well.  Makes it cozy but a little hard to turn pages at times.  But it all works out.

  25. Diane U. says:

I love that pink too!  When I was in grade school, I hid behind my dad’s recliner and read little women.  We moved 3 times while I was in high school and the last school had an art room with a book shelf in front of part of a big window with a wide ledge.  There were very few windows in that school so I used to slide behind the bookcase and sit on the ledge and read, read, read.  Now I sometimes retreat to the bathroom and read in a bubble bath.

  26. glad to see there are other closet bathroom readers here too (vs. the bathroom closet readers). Pick me. I have a cold. Thanks.

(wife85? I wondered why it was crowded in the boudoir)

  27. Malin E says:

I really don’t hide, I read pretty much everywhere. On the bus, metro, trams, while walking to and from the bus stop, in my office, at cafe tables, walking up and down stairs on occasion, and depending on how good the book is. The kids I teach find this vastly amusing.

  28. Freikugel says:

I like to cram myself into the darkest corner of my college library’s downstairs level. Considering that most of my friends are geeks, I’m surprised that more of them don’t like libraries like I do.

  29. Rose D says:

lol Pamk, I will hide in the bathroom to read, but I was never one for reading in the tub.  When i lock myself away to read a few chapters my husband thinks I have tummy trouble because I will be in and out of there all day if the book is super good.  Haha!

  30. liz says:

snuggled on the couch right by the blazing fire….

  31. kira says:

I like to read in bed. It’s just so comfy to get all propped up on pillows and stretch out my legs. Often a mammal or three joins me (cats and dogs) so it’s companionable, too.

  32. HaloKun says:

Ooh!  I need an E-Reader since I think I’m one of the few here who doesn’t have one!

My favorite place to “hide” and read is actually out in my local cafe.  Coffee Society, FTW!  They have really old crappy couches that you sink into with your favorite espresso drink and a good book..  Nothing better!  Plus you can still be social if you want to because it’s always packed with cool and interesting people.

  33. lavshuca says:

i like to seclude myself in the walkin closet

  34. Judy Williams says:

my books are still in boxes in our master bedroom closet so thats my reading space.  Hard on the butt, but thats where my husband knows to look for me if the house is really quiet. Plus I can close the door and not bother anybody else until really late at night

  35. LipsonassHater says:

Without a doubt, my favorite place to read is on the beach. It doesn’t matter what time of year it is either. Whether I am out there in shorts and a t-shirt or jeans and a heavy jacket, I am out there reading for hours. It is the most relaxing and calming experience. My only worry is bird poop, but I have yet to be bombarded with seagull fecal matter. (Sorry, I am sure that is TMI) 🙂

  36. Becca says:

I don’t usually hide to read, I do it right out in the open. I’m pretty good at completely tuning out my husband and cat. 😉

  37. kkw says:

I don’t tend to physically hide when I’m reading, because reading envelopes me in a protective bubble that makes reality irrelevant.  If there are lots of guests around making it poor form to go off on my own and read I pretend that I’m exhausted and hide in a bedroom.  It’s not really a lie.  I am exhausted, I just don’t need to sleep.

  38. Mary says:

Snuggled in bed trying to fall asleep, or in front of the wood stove. Especially this time of year. Brrrrr…..

  39. kathybaug says:

Now that my kids are grown, I don’t need to hide anymore, but when my hubby is watching football, I do like to read upstairs in my bedroom.

  40. Melissandre says:

In bed, under the covers, wearing pajamas, cat at my side.
